  1. To soon to tell... probably the same on the coast here in Pembrokeshire... and it's a week away... A lot can happen to UK weather in a week
  2. Wow!!! In Pembroke we only had approx 7" at most I remember feeling 'most put out' as we watched the welsh news of everyone else's snow... lol... Everything was frozen solid though for weeks!
  3. 'If' the low pressure does come to fruition then you may well get your wish... lol... LOVE the idea of you bringing the horse in to warm up, you have a kind heart x The snow was that deep you just didn't know what you were walking on! It was an amazing time, everyone just helped...
  4. 82 was 'bleeding cold' Welsh Wanderer but it wasn't that 'cold' I was a teen at the time and living in Manorbier Nr tenby... The first night it snowed and in the morning it wasn't that deep in our street and my Mum made us get up and dressed for school, she sent us out the door to get the school bus! By the time we got to the bus stop it was obvious we weren't going anywhere as the drifting snow was over 2 ft thick on the main rd... By the next morning the drifts on the road out of Manorbier were 12ft high!!! We were lucky we'd just had delivery of coal, (others on the street were having their's nicked) the power went out, and we had a drip from the kitchen tap as the water hadn't quite frozen solid. We had a bottle gas cooker so we could cook and my Dad insulated it really well. Much different to todays houses... They were army barrack houses and had sinlge glazing aluminium windows, little roof insulation and I think the walls were concrete as it was housing for soldiers next to the firing range, not built for warmth... We buried the food from the freezer in the back garden, My Dad had a couple of Tilly lamps we used for light in the lounge and we had a battery operated radio for news. I have very fond memories of us playing cards every night and talking to each other. My mum was busy cooking for those on the street that couldn't, My Dad was busy helping a chap that borrowed (acquired) a JCB to help dig us out on the main roads and Me and My friend Deb were traipsing to Jameston and back for supplies with a sledge! We were so grateful for the farmers with tractors and Land Rover folk that helped us up the hills with our loads !... We were cut off for a week at the most and I remember the electricity helicopters landing in the sports field next to the estate dropping off supplies and workers to get power restored... It brought a whole community together that wouldn't otherwise have spoken 'IF' this snow 'apocalypse' comes off, the models haven't yet confirmed this although they are aspiring to it... Then I'm not sure what we are going to get yet... The upper atmosphere at 1km plus is showing temps of -10 to -15c which means any moisture that 'could' head our way will surely fall as snow. The windchill will be biting possible -10 to -15C , that's the thing that will catch many folk out... They think they are wrapped up warm enough... But 10mins in that windchill inadequately dressed and you'll soon know about it... Nobody can be 100% certain that the low pressure slowly making it's way from Newfoundland across the Atlantic will hit us on Friday. Although the models at the moment show it might. But as this is such an unusual event, even the 'models' are having problems trying to decide what will happen... Even the usually 'cautious' BBC weather presenters are giving us 'clues' as to what might happen, they are tweeting and answering questions about what's to come... A lot more than usual.... I think everyone is excited to see what might happen, even me Although... I have 3 elderly neighbours in my vicinity and been and visited them all today to make sure they can keep warm, have enough supplies in and if there is anything they want to ring me... I even said they are more than welcome to spend their days with me as I have chopped loads of wood and the burner will be going all day... 2 of them looked at me as though I was a bit daft ... lol... It might or might not happen however I felt better for saying something... I shall be watching with interest... This was the main road out of Manorbier Jan 82!
  5. Nice location Everything is drying up here as well in Pembroke! We had frost yesterday -2C but it was +2C here this morning and no frost... Although it was forecast to be colder... Well we may get a few flakes of snow on the Pembrokeshire coast.... between midnight Mon and Tues morning according to this model... We 'could' wake up to a little covering... It would be nice
  6. Intended with fun... Can I have the mix pretty please So I can see this as well
  7. Appreciated Pembroke Dangler, thanks x That's 'Best Case Scenario' right? Would love this to happen... I'll 'model watch' with interest... At the moment I know it will be 'bitterly' cold across Wales next week, I've already got the 'old' salopettes washed and ready for wearing... But would love this this to just be a day or 2 out as apposed to a week !
  8. Love this can you make mine a 'lager and black' pretty please I haven't had one of those in about 20yrs... lol... about as long ago it was since we last had any decent snow... lol... Ooooo the memories it will bring back... lol..
  9. I'm almost sure we are all going to be a 'tadge nippy' Icequeen, I'm sure by the end of next week we will all be cursing the 'windchill' trying to take our 'noses' off! lol...
  10. Love to be as excited as you Pembroke Dangler , but what makes you so sure? Honest question by the way.
  11. Gutted I didn't even feel or hear the quake in Pembroke... Although we were chainsawing at the time... lol... Make sure you separate the pages of the books well ! Otherwise they are a 'biatch' to burn , they need 'stirring'... lol...
  12. The 4th wastedlife is a long way off yet, chances are you'll be fine lets see what happens closer to your date? x
  13. Awww Shucks... So if we really do get snow then It would take 'stained glass windowin' ages to get to your party... See me being a woman... My freezer is filled with Chilli, Old fashioned Pea and Ham Soup, and today I made Bacon Bolognese ... At least we won't starve.. lol... I've already bought the UHT did it the last 'time' we were forecast snow... lol... Love chopping wood, free exercise ! (I used to be a landscape gardener) ... For us wood fanatics there is nothing like a well stacked pile Currently 23.8C in our lounge... Socks off!!! ... lol...
  14. Intrigued Eira? Are we allowed to ask what supplies?? (Cheeky face) Mine have gone into the freezer this week! as it's too warm on the coast and I've chainsawed masses of supplies for the log burner... Just so I can sit by it, keep warm and enjoy everyone else's snow ... waiting for the weekend charts...
  15. Ok... I'll play ... Penfoel where are you I'm in Pembroke and watching the charts closely this past week... I'd love some snow... But compared to those that are inland and at a higher elevations, as per usual our chances are a LOT less... So waiting on the weekend charts and watchings the lows as the high pressure is doing a FAB job this week and I've had a glorious dry week in the garden... Anyone else on the Pembrokeshire coast watching with anticipation??? But don't want to get their hopes up to high???
  16. The snow did get bit thicker and heavier but was to wet to stick. Temp now gone up and it's actually just stopped in Pembroke
  17. It actually hasn't stopped here in Pembroke, the flakes have just gotten smaller... lol... I still have a few white patches in the garden! According to the radar we should be in for more if the temp hold up... I'll let you know in bit.
  18. Started snowing at 7:30am in Pembroke and it's still snowing ! A light dusting in places in the garden but not sticking to roads or pavements
  19. Evening all Here in West Wales Pembroke, currently the 'fiercest' gust we've had in the last hour has registered at 52mph so far and we are currently gusting at 42mph. Just your usual Winter wind... Lets see what tonight brings??? But I Doubt it will top Ophelia! Oh and by the way the rain was 'Meh' and has now stopped...
  20. Dry as bone here this morning in Pembroke. The lowest we got to seems to be 3.5c at some point overnight, was 5c at 7am and now 6.1c I've taken advantage of the wind and sunny spells and got a line full of towels blowing nicely this morning
  21. And best of luck to them Snowyowl9 I say... At least some folk are having some fun out of this... Not that I'm miffed at all sob sob ... lol... Our time will come I'm sure ! Just not sure what Year or Century!!!
  22. NO snow here on the Pembroke Coast, we did have a heavy hail shower just after 6pm this evening in less than an hour it was all gone. Temps today including the dew point have gone up and down like a yoyo... The promised wintery showers flowing across from Ireland has seen the Irish Sea devour most ! I do have to say the Met Office in regard to what they forecast were accurate for us and the Meteo radar has also been accurate in what we 'might' have received... Love living on this little island that is SO HARD sometimes to predict accurate weather for Lets see what the next few days might bring?! Nothing like this pic from the 1982 Blizzard when we lived in Manorbier I'm sure... lol...
  23. Bless them trying to stay warm in the cold wind... Within less than a minute this morning 6 of them 'marched' out of the undergrowth and proceeded to feast ! If they spent as much time eating as they do protecting 'their' food ! I love watching them and all the birds from the lounge window.
  24. Show us some pics of it pretty please Lindy Nothing like that for us on the coast according to the met office. In fact we've had glorious sunshine for the past hour and still do. The squally shower this morning merely spat on us! I'm off out the garden (while the sun lasts) to do battle with a chainsaw and a huge eucalyptus tree we had taken down before Xmas.
