  1. Normal winter fare not surprised its going all pear-shaped regarding precipitation it seems to be some kind of joke the weather plays on us every year..

Its hard not to get caught up and think something special is on the horizon when you read the mod thread like the start of the week.

Having been let down many times it seems like wasting your time reading and looking at model output every winter,  Basically ignore everything the rampers say pick out the worse scenario then climb one rung up the ladder from that and that Is what we get.

But looking forward to the cold and especially hard frosts, but if we get into Feb with zonal mediocre dross then think I will tune out.

It was a tough one to take this as so much promise was on the table.

Nevermind have a good weekend all!

Hopefully if we see a upgrade on the cold returning start of Feb then great sign me up  but mid Feb end into march even if get an event it will be slush in a day.

  2. Yes I am not surprised we are out of the game seeing how in the past we can be nailed on with a day to go then a total reversal happens.

Plenty of time for things to change even if it's not next week the important thing is to get the cold in first "super cliche" then see what happens.

At least we are not looking at these charts the end of February like the last few years sun Is still low in the sky.

Maybe it will be our winter but I think that every year.

Law of averages and all that.

The bias in there really irritates me, and people completely deny that it exists and that anyone pointing it out is themselves being biased. Eugh.

Much prefer frontal snow, personally. Higher risk but you don't need deeply cold air and the snowfall is often more substantial and widespread, but some seem to think it automatically makes a return to raging south westerly and so would rather stay dry and hope for small, more marginal and more localised features to pop up, which simply isn't true. Seen fronts bring snow and leave the UK in cold air numerous times.

Always a bit disappointed when fronts trend away from the UK in these setups.

Whatever you post in there you always get a challenge from someone who thinks you are talking rubbish or know nothing, Usually because it shows that their area may not be in the game for snow etc.

That's why I never post in there because I am always uncertain with my interpretation of the models due to lack of knowledge.

Latest GFS leaves our region dry next week, so large uncertainty.

I know It is full of uncertainty but with my job it's hard to get a day off to get cover etc but if I get in now before its all over the news that we may be getting an "event" of some sort next Thursday may hit the jackpot may not.. May leave it a day or so.

Ps. Enjoying your comments in the mod thread.

  5. So Thursday is the big day then. I may book it off as I am a delivery driver I cover 2 rounds in local area I usually love delivering in the snow but I would like a day where I can enjoy it and if we do get alot I don't fancy getting stuck somewhere.

Although the person that covers me will be totally screwed and thing holding me back is having to do double the work on the Friday if they wimp out on doing it..

Usually I don't have to worry because none of these events actually come to fruition.. 😅

    Thinking ahead just in case.

Hoping for a bullseye but does cause issues for me.

As a relative newbie, I couldn't agree more!

Someone posted on the highlights thread about ignoring posts from the worst offenders. Problem is I'd have to then remember all their names as opposed to skipping over them. And just reading the highlights thread is rather technical and sometimes... a little boring?! I need a bit of ramping!

There's a definite need for a thread lead by the (cheerfully) experienced to educate the newbies with current model runs.

Anyone know of any videos or (even better!) podcasts that talk though model runs? Gav's weather vids on YouTube is ok, but he talks faster than anyone I've ever met and the learning from it is limited. Any others?

For what little it's worth, I like this little corner though. Keep it positive everyone... and thank you!

Yeah a newbie thread would be good

  7. Hope this upcomming cold period does not all fall apart it has been enjoyable reading the mod thread these last few weeks.

Despite having been on here lurking for years It is very hard trying to understand the models myself to be able to post anything in that thread and not get ripped to shreds.

Also having seen the twists and turns in the past even down to 1 day out where it all falls apart and the toys go flying I won't be getting excited until I see the snow falling and my flooded garden become an Ice rink.

Won't be buying the skates just yet..

Clouds rushing by quite nicely but winds fairly low still here just a light breeze.

As for a none event the forecast was always for a none event here, for the west and across  areas to the north of us that's a different story. Top gust 22mph here. Should pick up when the winds swing to the SW but still will be nothing of note.

    Hope so

Blizzards continue here, please don't travel. Many cars are stuck and stranded in extreme conditions.

I bet my wife is on her way back from a concert in Birmingham I am glad that It was was mostly rain from here southwards otherwise it would have been a nightmare for them luckily they are in a defender so not too worried.

  11. The spot where it is pivoting around Carlisle must be getting absolute mountains of snowfall it has just been constant there for hours.

It literally snowed for 10 minutes heavy here and after all the super heavy rain all night there is a covering back on car roofs and a bit on the road.

It has been solid heavy realoding precipitation over the northwest like all afternoon evening they must be absolutely buried.
