I don’t think you can compare two days of heat to having your house ruined with floodwater costing you a fortune to put right and a long period of time to recover from. But anyway, we digress!
That wasn’t the point I was making but fair enough.. I was stating that where I live the outlook doesn’t look too bad, but obviously it is up north

Overnight low of 17c here and currently partly cloudy, and 22.8c doesn’t feel autumnal at all where I am I’m still in shorts, roll on cooler evenings

If you’re going to put it like that try telling the people of Lerwick how hot it was last week at 38.7c while they’re we’re stuck at around 20c

Try telling that to people who have suffered flooding in the last week, and probably a load more in the next 10 days. Not bad at all i guess....
Yes and that’s the north, you don’t live in the north you live in the south east

If August carries on in this manner then I think you can drop that to a 4!
Partly sunny conditions mostly, average/ above average temps and some showers, not really bad at all at least it’s warm

Sure, it will become the new average. The average always shifts slightly from one 30 year period to the next. The dullness of recent Augusts has been more evident in some parts of the country than others, too. Just not as much in your location. I've seen statistics from SE England in particular showing a rather obvious decrease. When does a few duller than average months become a trend though? Why only one month affected and not surrounding months, so much? Probably is a statistical quirk but evident nonetheless.
FWIW, generally, I certainly don't see August as the first month of Autumn but it depends how one perceives the conditions as well, not everyone will see it the same way. Some people observe more closely to the temperature, whereas for some the decreasing daylengths and increasing cloud/rain in their locale may give more the impression of an autumnal feel. There's certainly no reason why anybody should feel the need to argue over such ridiculousness. Everyone has their own interpretation, heavily based upon where they are located.
For me personally I base it roughly on night time minima for my location going down to singles figures, which doesnt ever happen in August, usually late September for me

Autumn doesn’t start until late September at the earliest imo. People on here love to exaggerate.
It’s been warm and humid here today, and much like yesterday we have had a few thundery showers. Max temp of 22C.
Could be a lot worse, still shorts and T-shirts for me, but could do with a fully dry day now. Thankfully the next few days look dry and warm - August will start on a better note than July ended.
My birthday is at the end of the month and regardless of what weather was like before, my actual birthday has been very nice weather-wise in recent years. We’ve had a few thunderstorms too. I remember growing up in the 90s my birthday was often hot, especially 1995 when it was about 32C. My grandma’s birthday is in mid June and has been much less reliable for nice weather.
I agree I don’t understand people in the south calling on average one of the warmest months of the year the start of Autumn, my birthday is the start of October and in recent year I’ve always still walked around in just a T-shirt.

Looks like July is ending as it began - but for three hot days disappointing temperatures and mostly cloudy during waking hours. Current mid afternoon temp: 18.3C in what we describe to be "high summer".
Oh well, tomorrow sees the start of the first Autumn month.
Down here on the south coast I don’t think of autumn until it’s at least end of September/ start of October, August is usually fine and warm here whilst September is always usually dry and warm ish, wish we had a cool September for once to get me in the autumn mood

Rising again back up to 26.1c cmon!!!
-
Currently raining and back down to 25c on the coast, northwesterlies can sometimes produce higher temps here...

Can see clouds bubbling up from the channel moving in, why so soon?!

But you generally stay warm at night? I reckon cloud cover will hold the heat in for many of us till crash bang wallop arrives.

I reckon Tuesday will end up being the peak of the heat for us
Sometimes I wish I lived slightly inland... oh well

The Temperature is now falling on the sussex coast, not even 25c!
I’ve just scraped 26c where i am, however I can see high cloud coming in off the sea, it’s going to ruin it here in the coast I at least want to see 30c

Quite often it gets hot early then the sea breeze kicks in and hampers the temps. Was similar yesterday and Tuesday.
Yeah I’ve noticed this, a lot of times when it’s hot we’ll hit our max at like 11-12 and then it flatlines through the afternoon, I hope it doesn’t today but I bet it does
-
Already 26c at shoreham airport at 8 am, if this keeps we should easily pass 30c before midday here on the coast

Yup. A few websites have 33 to 34, and others have high 20s.
It's all up in the air!
Where ever Davis weather is in Worthing, it's not even 22c at the moment. https://www.davisworthing.co.uk/
It’s correct in saying 23c could be the max so I’m hoping it’s correct about tomorrow! Could go either way

It would appear that Worthing may not even breach the 30c mark tomorrow.
Good luck to the rest of you inland in your ovens
BBC has 31c here in Worthing tomorrow so you never know...

120 mm of rain over a few days in Lincolnshire wasn't normal, though, an neither would be 40C next week given that the existing maximum from 2003 was 38C.
These are localised events, if 40c were to come off although most likely it won’t, but if it were, liking it or not won’t change anything so may aswell enjoy watching the stats as they unfold as it’s a rare event

Radar shows rain over my area but nothing is falling...
