  1. Latest from MO

    Tuesday 2 Jan - Thursday 11 Jan

It now looks likely that this period will start with below average temperatures across northern areas, with some hard night time frosts. In the south temperatures are expected to be nearer average with cloud and some rainfall at times, especially in the far south. During this time there is a good chance that many central areas may remain relatively fine for a number of days. Thereafter, more settled and calmer conditions are expected to gradually develop quite widely, increasing the risk of frost and fog. This would also lead to day on day net cooling eventually bringing below average temperatures for many, with an increased threat of winter hazards, including ice/snow if any precipitation runs into the cold air in place over land.

However, as the storm seems to be taking a slightly more western route today the models have reduced the expected maximum wind gusts for most parts of Wales by 10-20kph.  This UKMO chart for 6:00pm is showing roughly the peak of the winds in the Irish Sea….

This doesn’t look as severe as the charts I have been looking at over the last few days.

  3. Met Office upgrades Storm Agnes with 'danger to life' warning for parts of Wales - Wales Online

On Tuesday morning (September 26), that warning was upgraded in west and north Wales as the forecasting agency warned of "danger to life". The upgraded message said: "The likelihood of impacts has been increased, particularly across Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland, west and northwest Wales, Cumbria and Lancashire."

The Atlantic rain and wind have arrived as promised with the strongest wind gusts here likely to occur between 1000 and 1400.  So far nothing exceptional - just a typical wet and windy morning - but it looks like a day to stay indoors if possible.

Was going down the van at St Davids today, decided to stay home. see what its like tomorrow

  5. Met not certain getting on board slowly

The end of February is likely to see a continuation of changeable conditions, with the wettest and windiest weather most probable across the northwest. The south and east may see some shorter spells of wet weather, although overall conditions should remain drier and more settled. Into March, high pressure is expected to develop to the north of the UK and low pressure to the south. This is likely to introduce a north-south split, with drier conditions across the north and wetter conditions in the south. Temperatures expected to be mostly around average, but a period of colder or much colder temperatures remains a small possibility and could bring spells of wintry weather.

  6. UK long range weather forecast

    Monday 6 Feb - Wednesday 15 Feb

Mostly fine with sunny spells on Monday, although cloudier in the northwest with some rain. Light or moderate winds for most, becoming stronger in the northwest, with a risk of coastal gales. From Tuesday, high pressure tends to dominate, with any frontal systems most active in the northwest, but quickly weakening as they stagger southeast across the UK. For many, there should be plenty of mostly dry if rather cold weather, likely lasting a few days, with overnight frost and perhaps some fog patches in the south and a small chance of very cold conditions and snow showers moving in from the east. However, most likely is a resumption of wetter, windier and milder weather from the west after a few days of cold conditions.
