Joy, central Scotland looking like it is set for another pasting as things stand then. Of course, still to far out for anything to be ruled out, or in really.

on a serious note, my wife and eldest child are stuck in Leeds as trains are cancelled any body in here from Edinburgh and surrounding areas keep me upto date on the train situation it would be a great help, she suffers with mental health problems and this extended time away is causing here real problems today and she is scared that she wont be able to get home tomorrow. any updates would be great, cheers all
At present ScotRail have a very limited service until 19:00.

Was there any point in ending a red warning and going to an amber warning? It's the same bloody weather
Genuinely.. I think the red was put in place to make folk actually go home..
If the Amber stayed in place yesterday, not as many folk or workplaces would have taken the advise as seriously as they did. Can you imagine the carnage if everyone left work at 5 last night.

How deep is it there? Not far away but curious if the slightly extra height ASL makes a difference?
I'd take a measurement but I'm in my pj's now and may die if I venture outside

All of SE Scotland is supposed to get pasted tomorrow morning, up to 20cm according to the Euro4. GFS also picks up on this. It is not over by a long way
Novice here, Can you link me to the euro4 charts please.

Latest video forecast on the Met Office site shows the snow starting to really pick up again through the Lothians early Thursday morning. I guess that ties in with the red warning through to tomorrow morning.
Link for the lazy?

Will that system from Fife make it over the Forth for another caking?
-
Bit of respite south of the Forth just now.
For how long though...

Seems to be a southerly wind bringing stuff into Edinburgh now.
-
Seems to be heading toward me now southerly from the forth in West Edinburgh.

A very distinct trend in latest mesoscale models to set up an intense streamer south of Edinburgh overnight:
The WRF-NMM and Euro4 are showing this pretty clearly too. Would be heartbreaking for Edinburgh if it came off like that!
Still scope for it to move northwards, although models seem pretty consistent on this so not too sure.
Forgive me if I'm being daft....
That's chart is valid for Friday...?
The red is right over Edinburgh?
