light snow falling, Ashingdon Essex

New showers developing off of southend? Very windy and constant light snow blowing in here now.
-
So was this storm Emma or is storm Emma the system forming up to hit the SW later today?

Last Frame not so great as it hits the land, I truly believe the lack of strong winds are scuppering us in this spell, -14c Uppers with 7c SST really should be having strong radar returns and what we are seeing over sea should be what we are seeing over land for a time
Yep. All momentum lost the moment it reaches the coast. There is no wind to speak off really at present.

Wow
Exploded in 1 scan as well, would have liked to have seen that Updraught
Does seem to have more of a west drift to it now but will it all fizzle out as soon as it touches land again?

I'll take it....
Might need to get to the end of the pier to see it. Not sure it's got Southend in its sights..

2-3 cm in Rochford area. A tiny amount added to from last nights first proper fall. Hoped for more from Amber warning area but hardly a breath of wind here.
Schools open as normal.

But at odds with the Met Office forecast I just watched which seemed to be indicate milder air pushing in. Have to admit to being confused at the moment.
Forecast is always lagged to previous models which were showing milder air.

And that’s likely falling on top of nearly 48 hours of on off snowfall....
Would that front impact Southend area?

Gutted. I thought nothing was marginal this time round but guess same old for us coastal towns ??
Think it's more a case of showers reaching you. Nothing to do with temps or coastal areas. It can be cold enough for snow and it doesn't snow - You still need the showers.

I think the yellow warnings do always say that to be fair. But getting one so far in advance is unusual, I think, and suggests it could well be upgraded nearer the time.
Taken from Met Office site:
What the colours mean
- Yellow: Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities. The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days.
- Amber: There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property. Amber means you need to be prepared to change your plans and protect you, your family and community from the impacts of the severe weather based on the forecast from the Met Office
- Red: Extreme weather is expected. Red means you should take action now to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely. You must avoid dangerous areas and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities.

Would love to know when and what guidance Met Office have sent to local authorities etc about this spell. Anyone in a position to share what information they have been issued with as it might give us a little more insight into Met office thinking.

Something a little heavier (than snizzle) falling in Ashingdon area now. Looks like the band that was up at Clacton area, extending SW
