  1. I wish the weather forecast would show us the track of Emma beyond Friday dinnertime!
  2. The drifting snow blowing around in the wind has caused chaos on many roads in North Lincs, many roads are closed including the A15 all the way from Lincoln to Scunthorpe - crazy stuff this drifting lark! Just about every school and college in Lincolnshire seems to be shut again today.
  3. Yup, the white outs from this powdery snow are impressive :-)
  4. This morning the local weather on BBC talked about the showers easing this aft but Met Off seems to have changed their minds on that now, with me and the partner both being home safe and warm I am happy to see what comes. Poor homeless people though :-(
  5. I can't believe the weather is missing you at Hedon! It's bonkers weather here in Scunthorpe and my mum has it at Beverley too - isn't it mad how localised it can be!
  6. Just measured the snow on the patio table, it's about 3" but looks deeper, snow just started up again here.
  7. We must have a good 4 or 5" here in Scunthorpe now, the dual carriageway in front of my house is covered in snow, was supposed to meet an outside party to supervise a street lamp repair in Beverley, his attitude was awful, his contractors were 6 mile outside of Beverley and he felt I should still drive 36 mile to Beverley! The severity of the weather was completely lost on him! I said it won't benefit him or I if I get stuck in my car somewhere because if I can't get there to safety brief them, the work won't be happening. I was in disbelief at his attitude! It's been complete white out conditions here! I have put a stop to the work and told him to pick a date next week - no one messes with my safety :-) I've rang my mum who lives in Beverley and she confirmed it's as bad in Beverley, she put her little dog out for a wee at 5am and lost him briefly in the back garden due to the blizzards :-) My partner hasn't ventured to work in Lincoln either today, it's bad there too.
  8. Woke up to this in Scunthorpe this morning :-o
  9. https://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/scunthorpe/dn16-1/minute-weather-forecast/329904 Been playing with this tonight, it's been near as damn it spot on about the times showers have been due to start :-)
  10. Coming down in Scunthorpe and whiting over nicely
  11. I said to my partner earlier that when I was a kid it seemed normal to have 6 inches of snow here and there in winter, I have tons of memories of my dad building the best snowmen and snow slides on the street and sledging on Beverley Westwood.
  12. Next winter I swear to god I am boycotting Met Office website! Trouble is every forecaster on the telly has over ramped it just the same.
  13. Relatively heavy snow for about 5 or 10 mins, we'll see what the rest of the evening brings.
  14. Black sky about to engulf me in Scunthorpe...
  15. I do actually love creative writing, I excelled at it in my school days in Hull :-)
  16. It's ludicrous really! I first read of this hype on holiday a few weeks back in the Caribbean, everytime I went online all I read about was the big dark purple monster that was going to turn the UK into some sort of frozen nuclear winter, pylons would collapse under the weight of the snow and ice, people would be looting darkened houses, we'd all be reliant on the die hard Asian shopkeepers who would still be open selling bread and milk when the supermarkets and everyone else were all shut and cobwebby from the delivery trucks stranded in the snowy wastes. And what do we get! Something that resembles the seeds of dandelions dancing around on a gentle summers breeze! ?
  17. I can't believe how quickly it's melted, it's no beast from the east, not like winter 2010 where it was proper Baltic and things never melted for weeks. To say this has been hyped about for weeks!
  18. Chucking it down with snow in Scunthorpe, small flakes but lots of them, winter 2010 was small flakes and soon amassed 18" so who knows eh!
  19. I feel better about making the decision to work from.home hearing the reports here that heading up to York could be tricky. The rail network is having issues due to the low temps and that alone can and is stopping trains. It's the not knowing what might be coming!
  20. I've decided against catching a train to York today, it's snowing and settling in Scunthorpe although not heavy snow but the weather forecast is still amber and heavy persistent showers so I think I'd rather be working from home than worrying what might happen and if both my trains home will be still running. It's hard having to trust these weather forecasts! But I don't want to get stranded anywhere!
  21. We have a slight dusting in Scunthorpe which now means my partner and I need to travel to our respective workplaces in York and Lincoln today without having a clue what the weather might do because Met Office can't even forecast the nest hours forecast correctly. I don't think our region has had a correct weather warning in the last year! How can they get it so wrong! And there's train companies cancelling trains on the strength of those weather warnings! It's like december last year when we had an amber over us and Lincolnshire for up to 15cm of snow, Lincoln City Council cancelled the last day of the big xmas market to play safe, got huge backlash, had to pay a fortune in compensation to the stall holders, lost the city a fortune in lost income and what came! A dusting just like now!
  22. I tend not to pay much attention to the ever changing warning areas, they won't know for sure who is going to get what and the edges of the warning areas won't be literal. Met Office frequently get it wrong, we are in the lap of the snow gods :-)
  23. Yes, they do it 6.45pm, to be fair it only covered tonight and tomorrow morning.
