  1. I don't think any forecaster / forecasting agency will know for sure how much will hit where, snow is too erratic and hard to predict.
  2. Look north showing a big body of snow moving across the whole Yorks region in a SW direction and some of North Lincs tonight. Persistent snow showers tomorrow but not sure how high they extend up to.
  3. BBC1 national weather reaffirmed snow coming in tonight, Look North is on and it's the top story.
  4. The train operators already cancelling services must be seriously sure something is going to hit or they are going to look very bad.
  5. One of the reasons I found this forum was because I was on a facebook weather group with a Mod who seriously over ramps any slight forecast for cold, wind or snow, he gets seriously apocalyptic and then gets stroppy with anyone that refuses to get apocalyptic with him!
  6. To be honest those times weren't fun, all the pavements were lethal all over the town because the council didn't know how to cope with it, I saw elderly people falling and being carted off in Ambulances, my fella slipped and broke his ribs on the compacted icy snow. The snow was novel when it first landed but once it got compacted it was horrendous. It's also not great if your jobs are outside of Scunthorpe. You have to also think about elderly or vulnerable people that rely on carers being able to get to them, people that need to get to hospitals for chemo and dialysis etc. I hate to sound like a killjoy and I do like snow but I never really understand those that want a dangerous amount that would cause absolute chaos for the country.
  7. Approaching Doncaster on the train and the sky is really black now!
  8. Heading home from York to Scunthorpe, skies a very yellowy great now. Be glad to get home and lamp post watch safely. I've been told to work from home tomorrow if it's bad.
  9. Doncaster has had a very light sprinkling. Be interesting to see what it's like heading up to York.
  10. The train seems quieter today, I think people must be worried about the weather. I left some snow behind in Scunthorpe but it hasn't come as far inland as Thorne or Doncaster yet.

  12. My face was royally stinging in the cold walking to the train station, was lightly snowing. I'll be monitoring things today whilst in York to make sure I can get back to Scunthorpe!
  13. Woke up to a dusting in Scunthorpe, will be a crispy walk to the train station at 7am, tomorrow I don't think i'll take any risks and work from home.
  14. http://www.hamburger-rathausmarkt.de/ Hamburg is turning white, it's on it's way :-)
  15. Depends how good your local council is at clearing it - ours went into hiding when 2010 dumped 2ft on us, we couldn't get the cars off our road for a good while, thing is it's that compacted snow that turns into an ice rink that I hate! It's ace innit when it's floofy and pretty but people insist on walking and driving on it and making it horrible ;-)
  16. At the end of the day the way I see it is it's a great opportunity to observe the complex and unpredictable nature of the weather on the planet we live on in this crazy universe, if we get snow it'll be fun and if we don't get it then it's all good in da hood because i'm getting into spring mode and I look forward to longer, milder days and the flowers and greenery coming back. And being honest nobody really wants loads of snow, it bites us all on the backside too much in this country, it's too problematic for many people that rely on home carers visiting, attending hospital appointments and a whole other host of other things that snow causes problems with. It's exciting to look at and get but a few inches makes me happy, even a few cm ;-)
  17. I'm a Yorkshire girl living in Scunthorpe, my partner works in Lincoln so he is also going to have to be careful not to get stuck anywhere if the weather turns as bad it sounds it could.
  18. Some of the rail companies are already talking of potentially reducing / cancelling services due to the expected wintry conditions, I travel from North Lincs to York on Mondays and Tuesdays by train for work so i'll have to really monitor things and take care not to get stranded Luckily i'm home based the rest of the week so I can get out and about to sites, i'm due to be supervising a job outside in Beverley on Weds morning, be interesting to see if the weather puts the kibosh on it - i shall have to wear a good few layers if it does all go ahead as planned.
  19. The only time i have ever seen red was 2010 when we had 2ft of the white stuff here, it was madness! I don't think red warnings were issued til after the event.
  20. The warnings seem to be evolving by the hour!
  21. I'm under the amber warning but it's still nothing to go on, had previous amber warnings this winter that have amounted to nothing although they were weather fronts from the west so a beast from the east could be more interesting. Not that I really want another winter 2010 to be fair.
  22. It's exciting but on the other hand I really wouldn't fancy a winter 2010 style event again as the council in North Lincs didn't have a clue how to handle it and it was a dangerous pain in the backside for weeks before it melted. I saw too many people fall on the left over compacted icy snow including elderly that had to be carted off by ambulance.
  23. It does make you wonder what will or won't come, our region has had a lot of false weather warnings this winter. I live in North Lincs but travel by train to work from an office in York on Mondays and Tuesdays and I'm out on site in Beverley on weds morning do I've a lot to think about with these weather warnings, I'm wary of attempting to go to York on Tuesday in case I get stranded. It's hard to know whether we can trust the warnings or not.
  24. It's clear skies and 2 degrees in North Lincs currently according to the BBC app with highs of 3 expected before the temps start dropping off later - keeping an eye on the forecasts and warnings to see what might arrive later!
