'Extremely light' snow all day in Mid Sussex, has now progressed to 'very light' - so after all day yesterday, around 2 millimetres overnight and falling flakes most of today, we now have a visible covering on the cars

I suppose not really weather related but I just wanted to say thank you all so much. I've really really enjoyed following the posts today. I am awaiting Open Heart Surgery sometime this year and you have really taken my mind off things. Thanks again everyone. I really mean that.
Best wishes for that.......hope it goes well.

snow is coming down moderately, but not currently sticking. it does at some point
Same in Burgess Hill. Been quite heavy on and off for at least a couple of hours now (particularly heavy right now as it happens) but very little has settled anywhere. At least the trees look pretty

Had about an hour of fairly heavy snow in Mid Sussex now, has only settled on the trees and the top of a few hedges so far.

A few flakes in mid Sussex, but breaks in the cloud and it’s not very windy. A predictable letdown

Don’t lose the faith.....couple of weeks ago we (BHAFC) were on the brink of the drop zone.......a few decent results and all looks very different

Just started lashing down with rain in Mid Sussex. 8 deg but wind turned noticeably chillier this afternoon.

Happy coincidence of any (unlikely) dusting coming to Mid Sussex appears to be at exactly the same time as the India/England test match is on the telly, so one eye on the game and one on the lamppost at 4am Sunday

SOOOO much pinning my/our hopes on a Thames Streamer like the 2009/10 ones. I keep trying to rein it in, telling myself just a bit of snow will be lovely, a cold week is in the offing, isn't that exciting etc etc, when all I really want, just like most of us on here, is a good 10cm minimum of snow, drifting in the hedgerows but of course all the roads clear so everyone can be safe who needs to travel!
I'm old enough to remember the late 70s/early 80s snowfalls in the west country with enormous drifts long the country lanes and fields. That started with what I thought was a complete waste of time as the snow just blew around wildly in the winds while my father told me we would see drfiting in the morning - he was right and our cul-de-sac remained ice-bound for 2 weeks IIRC and my aunt out in one of the local villages (Holcombe for anyone that knows the west country) was cut off for days. I know that's probably too much of an ask, but it really sticks in the memory when you experience that at a young age. For those experiencing this weekend's event as youngsters, it may set up a lifetime of snow addiction!
I was born and brought up in Devon (near Tiverton) - very similar experience. Feb 1978 is still stuck fast in my memory. It snowed for what seemed like days - at the start of half term and we ended up with an extra week off school. No vehicle other than tractors came in or out of our village for over a week. Our road had a colossal drift across it, from the gutters of the house on one side to the roof of a row of garages opposite - it was astonishing. We were all there when one of the farmers drove his tractor through it a few days into the freeze - it created a tunnel. There were still lumps of icy frozen drifts under north-facing hedges at the end of April. The lane from the bottom of our road to the top of the next hill had c8ft high hedges either side - we walked level with the top of the hedges as the lane had completely filled with snow.

I would say going to the Ashdown forest will be a better location some car parks that are exposed to the north east.
Not ‘local’ enough under Covid restrictions

HAHAHA Yup, base layer, vest and standard running top, then i've got my waterproof and windproof jacket No 1 and another waterproof and windproof jacket on top of that. A buff for my neck, 2 pairs of gloves, knee length socks, plus my trail shoes and calf guards.
Nice warm hat and another on my hydration vest just to be safe, running boxers, running shorts and thermal leggings and i'll carry windproof and waterproof lightweight running trousers in my hydration vest just to be safe.
It's a lot of weight to have on your person for running, but I'm working my way up to running the Mont Blanc Mountain marathon in a few years time, plus Snowdonia Marathon this year and Lake district ''5 Passes'' Ultra and the Ring of Hell Ultra marathon and the shropshire way 80km race this year....so it's all good training.
If anything I might actually be too hot and have to unzip layers hahaha
We'll see how it unfolds, I might opt to stay a little closer to home if its really really bad out there.
I’ll be straight up to the Downs for a jog if we do get any snow If I see the Michelin Man coming towards me I’ll give you a wave

Fully expecting the mid Sussex snow shield to be operating for the next few days....................totally fed up of relentless cold rain !

The majority cluster and the third one has Greenland ridge or high. The ECM op was in the second one which looks a bit meh. All but the 3rd cluster T192 have a red border - Atlantic block.
Christmas Day - feels more like Groundhog Day! Never thought I would be sitting here commenting on the 12s just like every other day, hope this pandemic nightmare ends early next year. I did my family FaceTime in the morning, on my own now so now it’s just like any other day since March. Plenty of beer in though! . But maybe there is hope, it did at least snow on Groundhog Day!
It’s rubbish for so many people fella. Just had a video call with our daughter who’s a nurse.....on and off Covid wards in Scotland (no snow today) and we haven’t seen her face to face for nearly a year. Hang in there, things are going to get better. The Oxford vaccine is competing with the snow to see which arrives first.......she had her Pfizer first jab this week.
As a lurker and novice, just a quick and genuine note of thanks to everyone posting on here - fantastically educational and informative. So much to learn but this is the best place. Happy Christmas

Had around 2.5 hours of persistent snow in Mid Sussex (Burgess Hill) after a few mins of freezing rain initially, now seems to be easing off with maybe 3-4cm lying. Temp hasn't been above freezing all day.
