Just after a bit of knowledge here: we have reasonable and interesting convection, temp currently 24.5 C, dewpoint 18 and humidity 67%. So what are the other key factors to watch out for in order for thunder/lightning to be more (or less) likely. Wind BTW is currently 64 degrees ENE.
Any advice would be super

So wow.
What a day yesterday!
So glad you got a fix. It was a spectacular event.

Had a lovely show in the garden this evening...as did many of you guys n gals. Here's my contribution to the images. Sorry it's a bit short: I don't know how to compress file size other than extreme editing.

If that happens I will forgive the weather gods for yesterday’s disaster
I'm watching and hoping too. Maybe we could be in with some luck?

Glad you got something to make the chase worthwhile
I was looking at heading toward Milford On sea at one point - literally had it in my sat nav but by then the first cells over the far west were pushing away.
I turned tail and headed back towards Portsmouth and watched as the French cell split leaving the gap over the channel.
Excitement once again as the sferics appeared in the void and it looked game on but the strange very eastward path made them all head toward Bournemouth and it would not have been worth chasing that far.
Saw the reading cell light up but it was just a discreet short lived cell. Still impressive to see it from so far away and would have seen more if it wasn’t for the member of the public who decided to 3-point turn and then driving at 10mph in front of me all the way up to my observation point. Parked up moments after the last flash... Thanks for that mate!
By the radar it looked like the cells just underneath brighton were moving on direct course for where I was (Waterlooville) but the magic skies had other plans and while frequent flashes could be seen, the storm was mostly obscured my mid-layer cloud.
Got some not particularly good photos and had a 4/10 lightshow from there while I watched, but I’ve seen far more spectacular storms from here (April in particular was probably a 8/10. A disappointment considering what could have been.
I was surprised not to see the other cells from London and distant to the west - but realised as I headed back towards Guildford that this was because of persistent rain which was falling in what should have been an active thunderstorm heading up through Petersfield NWwards.
Occasional distant flashes could be seen all the way back up the A3, but no forks as the rain was making visibility poor and it was all elevated anyway.
Kick myself for not just pushing up into London area at this point to but I figured after such a poor chase earlier it was better to wait for our turn back in Guildford.
however, despite finding a new (stoner-free ) vantage point close to home the same story as before. Storms too distant for any good pics and anvils obscured by mid level rain producing mess.
Giving up is never easy but by this point nowhere was available to buy a much-desired can of beer and the radar was essentially telling me to **** *ff (having sent all storms around us up to this point).
What’s weird is the temps haven’t really changed I held out some hope for newly energised cells over Le Havre - but Portsmouth got those hours later and I figured Lady Luck had been heartily laughing continuously at my efforts for many hours at this point and needed a rest - so I headed home.
What was weird though it how little the temperature has dropped (was 16/17° when I went to bed at 3am) which historically has meant some kind of follow-up storm - like in April where I got to watch the magnificent anvil pass by over the Farnborough/Basingstoke area. So far... you guessed it.... nothings!
Against my initial thoughts last night I have decided to cancel this mornings plans to head into town and keep and eye on developments, as it’s still exceptionally humid here and the sun’s out. This situation did us no favours yesterday but hey - a daytime storm would be welcome today on so many levels, and - like I say - it’s not like I can get any less storms from this than I already have so I guess it’s all to play for...
Frustrating night for us in the Gap. I started at Odiham airfield and could see activity in all directions. Headed out to Reading and saw some nice shows from the short-lived cell there. Then headed a little further southwards to Alton & Winchester. Again - loads of activity all around but couldn't head further south. Was hoping the strikes in the Brighton direction would make their way up towards Fleet but they died a death. Headed home and caught a few lovely looking skies as they lit up over Farnborough. But that was it really. Not really any opportunity to get the camera fixed on any activity as it seemed to be swirling around but never coming in the right direction. But heigh-ho. It was still good to see the skies light up in the distance and hopefully there is still a little more to come. And very exciting to read all the posts from those lucky enough to get in amongst it all (even if I am a wee bit jealous!)

Are we the only people who missed out completely in the south?
The ingredients are all there and literally storms everywhere else. It just isn’t making sense.
Still raining. Really nothing to write home about from what I’ve seen and I’ve been driving about all over the place.
Storms too quick, too random and too elevated.
Maybe there's s market for our marvellous 'storm shield' ☹

Have hardly heard ANY thunder.
Also i’m Confused because it’s still 17° here
Same. 17.7C and 88% humidity...I thought that would make it ripe for a storm. Guess I need to get back to the books.

Seeing lots of distant but vivid lightning to the north east of me. Way off in the distance. I'll continue watching for a bit but looks like Basingstoke will miss out on a direct hit tonight, but still hoping for something tomorrow.
Is it likely in Basingstoke area tomorrow? I look at the CAPE LI charts and it seems to show a pretty permanent state of possibility over the next few days but I am not sure what else to look out for to get a better idea of the likelihood (albeit taking into consideration the notoriously difficult to predict element )

Hmmm. Lovely to see so many folks getting a good show - I'd give mine a 6/10. Can see so much activity North, East and South but tonight no great show for me. I'll be radar watching for a wee while longer but then gonna call it a night. Enjoy the show peeps!

All distant every which way but looks like no hit for North Hampshire

Sitting up at Odiham...lighting up in distant different directions and wind picking up. I feel all wuthering heights

OK. So watching radar and waiting and hoping that big splodge in France keeps moving in the right direction. In the meantime, does anyone know of any good viewing spots in N Hampshire/Surrey borders? Often use Odiham airbase but just wondered if there is anywhere with a little more height.

Just to the south of reading at the mo. All eeriest quiet on radar but you know it will all start to kick off without much warning...
Well I've been reading the posts for some time now...and swotting up.
You are in my neck of the woods so I take that as a good sign . Will be out for a chase later when I have finished work.
In the meantime, keep up the great posts all - perfect aid for learning more
