Always a reminder that patterns can flip and lock in very quickly. April-December 2012 was near consistently cool and wet.

Yeah Autumn 2012 itself was the coolest since 1993 although I remember Autumn 2012 being quite dry especially in September, December was exceptionally wet in the week before Christmas but very dry in the first half

Anyone remember this interesting spell of weather with the heatwave in March which had 4 days above 20.C, reaching to just under 22.C on the 27th before the very cold and wet April, there was a snow depth of 11cm in my area on the 3rd with a maximum of only 2.3.C and a significant wind chill, the warmest day of April that year was also just above 15.C, share your experiences.

From memory 1985 was worse than 1988 and looking at the records seems to bear this out.......also seems that generally 1985,86 and 87 were worse than 1988...1988 had a stinker of a July ..however both June and August were fairly average..in fact June 1988 was pretty dry.

June 1988 was the warmest since 1976 at the time and there wasn’t a warmer one until 2003 in my records.

  4. Anyone have any memories from this interesting month.

    Mean maximum: 20.7.C (+1.1.C)

    Mean Minimum: 13.0.C (+2.4.C)

    Mean: 16.9.C (+1.8.C)

    Rainfall: 204mm (287%)

    Sunshine: 152 hours (92%)

A very interesting summer month with some fantastic rainfall totals and temperatures. Most notable for 120mm of rain falling between the 8th-12th a 24 hour mean temperature of 22.9.C and my warmest recorded minimum of 19.3.C on the 7th. Also some fantastic thunder and lightning.

June  2013 was very nice for the western part of the UK! August was rubbish

    Anyway  best summers

    1995

    2003

    2006

    2013

and a small note for 2016 which was  good compared  to previous years

Poor summers  2007 that's all need to be said. 2017 was terrible over all . and July 2015 was garbage.

I have good memories of June 2013 despite it being slightly cooler than average it was mainly dry, sunny and pleasantly warm, most days were around 17.C-20.C the lack of heat was noticeable I think the highest all month was only 22/23.C, there was some noticeably chilly nights thrown in as well.

I love the heat and sunshine in summer, so best and worst in the London area (caveat, I was born in 1986 so only doing the ones I remember):

    Best

    1994, 1995, 1996, 2003, 2006

Those mid-90s summers coincided the peak of my primary school years (aged 8-10) where I'd be out on my bike, at the park, playing football etc all day during the holidays. 1995 was a stone cold classic. 1994 and 1996 were also very good summers but not as good as 1995. 2003 was hot and sunny for large parts, particularly in July and August. Record max temperature of 38c in the London area. 2006 had a good June and an exceptional July, not only in terms of longevity but also temperatures (36c max in the London area).

    Honourable mentions

    1997, 1999, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

The summers of 1997 and 1999 had quite lengthy warm and sunny spells. August 1997 had an average max of 26c in London. July 1999 averaged 25c and saw a max of 33c in early August. 2005 had a warm and sunny July, and first half of August and a hot spell at the end of June. the bank holiday in August reached 32c.

2009 and 2010 were not great summers nationally as far as I can remember, but we fared pretty well down in the SE compared to the rest of the country. There was a lengthy hot spell end June/early July in both years with temperatures in the high 20s/low 30s.

2013 had a beautiful July (average max of 27c in London). Max temp of 34c on the 22nd. It hit 34.1c again on 1st August. the rest of August was fairly warm with temperatures fluctuating in the low to high 20s.

2014 wasn't exceptional, but had some lovely warm weather. Between 14th and 31st July, the temperature didn't drop below 24c and was consistently in the high 20s with one day hitting 30c.

2015 had the hottest temperature since 2003 - 37c on 1st July. Much of the second half of June and first half of July was warm/hot and sunny. August was a lot cooler, but it still hit 31c on the 22nd.

June 2016 was cool, however the weather really warmed up in the second half of July, hitting 33c on the 19th. The second half of August was also warm/hot and sunny with maxes of 30c and 33c on the 23rd and 24th, and temperatures regularly in the mid to high 20's.

2017 had a beautiful first half (June to mid July) and a cooler second half (mid July to end of August). June had five consecutive days above 30c in London between 17th and 21st, peaking at 34c. The first half of july had many days in the mid to high 20s, peaking at 31c on the 6th.

    Worst

    1998, 2007, 2008, 2012

1998 was generally cool, with very few hot days. 2007 and 2008 were the same. 2012 had an abysmal June, but a better end of July and August.

2005 would also be one of my favourite summers, it was just let down by a very cool and dull second half of July, second half of June and first half of July was very warm and sunny, the temperature also reached 30.C on the 12th July the first time in my area since 1990 at the time. August was rather decent as well.

2009 was also an OKish summer, with a rather decent June, July was very wet but it was generally warm with few cool days and a lot of the rain fell in short heavy showers and was quite bright, August was wet and duller but still warm.

2010 was also not a bad summer minus July, June was rather warm, very dry and sunny, while August although cool was also dry and sunny, July however was very wet with near normal maximum temperatures and above average minimums.

2014 was a pretty decent summer with a very good July, though August was rather poor.

2016 Had a good first half of June although the second half on June and first half of July was terrible, very wet and dull. The second half of July wasn’t bad, and August was rather decent as well.

2015 was also a stinker, this had my wettest and coldest recorded July, it was only helped by quite a decent August.

  8. Forgot to put best summers down for me it would be.

    1995: Mean maximum: 21.0.C (+1.8.C), mean minimum: 10.8.C (+0.6.C), rainfall: 74mm (37%), sunshine: 685 hours (138%)

    2006: Mean maximum: 21.3.C (+2.1.C), mean minimum: 11.1.C (+1.0.C), rainfall: 161mm (81%), sunshine: 632 hours (127%)

    2013: Mean maximum: 20.8.C (+1.6.C), mean minimum: 10.5.C (+0.3.C), rainfall: 98mm (49%), sunshine: 550 hours (110%)

    1989: Mean maximum: 20.1.C (+0.9.C), mean minimum: 10.7.C (+0.5.C), rainfall: 102mm (52%), sunshine: 606 hours (122%)

    2003: Mean maximum: 20.9.C (+1.7.C), mean minimum: 11.3.C (+1.2.C), rainfall: 103mm (53%), sunshine: 534 hours (107%)

  9. To compare to other people what would you say your 5 worst summers have been in the last 30 years for me, as someone who likes warm days and cool nights with plentiful sunshine and slightly below rainfall these would be my worst.

    2012:

    Mean maximum: 17.6.C (-1.6.C), mean minimum: 10.2.C (+0.1.C), rainfall: 336mm (176%), sunshine: 344 hours (69%)

    2007:

    Mean maximum: 18.5.C (-0.7.C), mean minimum: 9.7.C (-0.4.C), rainfall: 317mm (160%), sunshine: 396 hours (80%)

    2008:

    Mean maximum: 19.0.C (-0.2.C), mean minimum: 10.6.C (+0.4.C), rainfall: 313mm (159%), sunshine: 408 hours (82%)

    2011:

    Mean maximum: 18.2.C (-1.0.C), mean minimum: 9.8.C (-0.3.C), rainfall: 309mm (156%), sunshine: 445 hours (91%)

    2017:

    Mean maximum: 18.8.C (-0.4.C), mean minimum: 10.6.C (+0.4.C), rainfall: 307mm (155%), sunshine: 451 hours (91%)

All of these summers expect 2017 and 2008 had no days above 25.C.

June 2006 was good too. I feel like 2003 is overrated mostly because of the hot spell in early August but it wasn't that amazing otherwise.

See that’s exactly what I think. 2006 had a very good June, even August was good as maximum temperatures and sunshine were both above average although it was unsettled. 2003 had a warm June although it was never really settled. July was warm and dry but duller than average and the only warm sunny spell was around the 9th-20th, afterwards it was generally cooler and dull. August was a fantastic summer month that year, very dry and sunny and warm

  11. 90’s summers were good. Aside from 1993 and 1998, although these weren’t as bad as some recent summers.1993 was notable for its real lack of any warmth. July and August were actually quite dry and sunny but very cool, 1998 was a wet and cool summer but not on par with summer 2007, 2008, 2011,2012, 2017. 1990, 1995, 1997 and 1999 were all fantastic summers. July 1991 was also a very good summer month but let down by a very poor June.

  12. Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen grass so yellow, must be about 2003, we’ve not had much prolonged or regular rain since at least the middle of April, aside from the odd rainy day and a couple of thunderstorms and for at least 10 days there hasn’t been a drop of rain. Looking by weather forecasts there doesn’t seem to be any rain for at least two weeks. I would love July to stay very dry but for August to get some heavy rain

  13. For Perth Scotland.

A very warm month, with below average rainfall and well above average sunshine. The month was predominantly warm during the day and maximum temperatures were at their highest in over 40 years, minimum temperatures were closer to average as there was some cool nights during the first half. The highest maximum was also a record. Aside from a very sharp thunderstorm on the 1st which brought 21mm of rain on the 1st the month was dry and quite warm up until the 12th from the 12th-21st the weather was rather cool, wet and at times windy. On the 14th a gust of 54mph was recorded as storm Hector approached. From the 22nd the weather was very warm and with almost unbroken sunshine which helped to boost sunshine totals up. Also the temperature exceeded 30.C for the first time in June since 1995.

    Mean maximum: 20.7.C (+2.6.C) (Highest since 1976)

    Mean Minimum: 10.3.C (+0.6.C)

    Mean: 15.5.C (+1.6.C) (Highest since 2006)

Highest maximum: 31.0.C (28th) (Hottest on record)

    Highest minimum: 14.4.C (28th)

    Lowest maximum: 13.7.C (17th)

    Lowest minimum: 5.8.C (7th) (Lowest since 2012)

    Rainfall: 43mm (72%) (Driest since 2013)

    Sunshine: 206 hours (125%) (Sunniest since 2010)

  14. Think this summer could potentially match 2006 up in Perth. Since around mid-May the weather has been very warm, often dry and very sunny. Aside from a cooler wetter spell around the 8th-21st June, June has been very warm, often quite dry and sunny. We broke the 30.C barrier today with 31.0.C making it the hottest June day on record. July looks set to be another warm, dry and sunny month, this is also the first summer since 2003 I can remember the grass going yellow.
