00z nothing short of awesome, incredible potential through both realistic timeframes right up to the end of FI. no end to the cold in sight, as muted elsewhere the cold pool is not going anywhere fast.

less than an hour into 2010 and snow on the ground...
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
-
Just looked at the radar and the showers up north are definetly moving south now. They are pushing into North yorkshire, some look quite beefy!
yes looks that way.
-
I still think 7-12cm is possible over 24 hours, especially NE lincs and N Yorkshire.
Lewis
based on what lewis? i just cant see anything to suggest anything other than a cm or two at the most. not even mentioned it to my son, feel it will be a non event (for now anyway)

morning all, wonder what this pm and evening will bring. looking good tbh
-
painfully slow progression south, no doubt when they do come south they will whizz straight past.... nothing new though, should get used to it
Barton on humber

skid pan in barton, only a dusting at present.....

WOW, so excited, but yet again so worried! lol
the point i made on here last night was that yes its worrying, but very different from 2007 in the fact that the rain fell on already saturated ground then. My rain gauge hardly moved for 6-7 weeks prior to the storms of the last 10 days or so.
i think be prepared, knowing Hull's record of the past. personally i will be watching it closely.

I'm starting to get a little nervey about the projected rainfall on friday. Looking at the models there seems strong simularities to the 2007 setup. Mabe someone can dig out the rainfall and pressure charts for comparison (Mr Data!) One can't help but think of the floods in 2007 round here, I got trapped in Sheffield for 10 hours that faithful day and nearly lost my van on the Wicker and my life!
I agree, however the water table is much lower this time than in 2007. up to two weeks ago we hadnt had any appreciable rainfall for 7 weeks. i think it will take an awful lot for a repeat of 2007 - hope not all the same.

i would like to join. my forcefield travels with me!
-
and another day of no rainfall. Immingham this morning had a downpour for 15 mins, 12 miles away - not a drop. i think we have a rainfall forcefield never mind a storm one!
-
In contrast to other parts of the country, we have still had no measurable rain yet this month! The rainband seemed to have reached the South Bank of the Humber and just stopped. We've not had any precipitation for 10 days now, the grass is even going yellow.
Its been mostly cloudy with occasional bright spells this morning. Max Temp was 14.6C, so cool but nothing out of the ordinary. The minimum was 9.9C last night so pretty average.
Currently 12C and overcast.
yes reef, really odd. i was playing cricket at Brigg and it was torrential rain. 8 miles north at Barton - not a drop of rain today. Only 7mm on Friday night for us this weekend.
-
really pleasantly suprised to say that at last i have seen heavy snow, about 2-3 inches of laying snow at sea level.
cleared now and no doubt a thaw sooner rather than later
as they say better late than never.
-
the 850's are increasing all the time, accord to NW extrra radar overlay, has been -7 , now about -6.4 soon to be -6 and climbing quite rapidly. I expect to see some sleetiness in the next few hours at lower levels anyway.
-
is this going to continue to fall as snow, if so i expect another 3 or 4 hours of heavy snow
-
best snow of the winter, yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
about an inch of snow in the close proximity to me - ie outside !!!
whooopeee
-
light snow in Immingham, apparantly its laying in Barton (because i am not there!!)
-
still snowing here, not far off an inch i suppose, i would call this a bonus. Make the most of it, i think the channel low will be a tad too marginal for us at lower levels.
-
still moderate but nothing special here, looks interesting a little further south, horncastle area etc, something a little heavier on the way as it stands before it clears about 10pm
-
The snow is struggling to settle here and it's still only light.
settling here trl? im suprised.....
-
moderate snow falling here for about 30 mins, getting heavier as i type, laying on pavements and grass but so far not the roads.
Snow here, at sea level, with the weather coming from the west is a rarity, i am quite pleasantly suprised.
-
Back in louth but i expect is getting bad over the wolds
expected it to show one way or another here by now, so far nothing
