Considering an Easterly would be at least 2 weeks away not sure what relevance today's temperatures are. If the right conditions present themselves then those places will turn very cold  very quickly

I was just pointing out how mild it is across Europe for the time of year as well. I'd always take a Northerly over an Easterly regardless of what it's like across Europe.

  2. There's next to no cold to our East either. Oslo currently 9c,Warsaw will hit 11c this week, Moscow multiple days with highs of 2 to 3c this week. Average high for Moscow this time of year is -4/-5.

Personally I'd take a Northerly over an Easterly but fat chance of either over the next 10 days. Then we're knocking on the door of March, which we all know can deliver but really we would want it to happen in winter proper and have less worry about melt. A total bust this Winter.

A proper cold snowy spell, a proper storm or a week of high pressure with frosty nights and ice/almost ice days. I can't remember a winter to never have one of those things happen. Bland and boring sums it up, odd exception here and there.

  3. Never in my life do I recall such a boring boring winter. No decent cold and snowy spell, no storms worth talking about, not even a nice crisp week with severe frosts and ice/almost ice days. Just never ending bland sh ite. I don't remember they're ever being a winter without at least one of those three things happening.

And the outlook is just puke.

  4. I've learnt my lesson this Winter, in fact it only further compounded what I thought before. I'll just stick to what the models are showing up to five days out before it flickers any interest in me. I won't entertain all the Background signals, Met office outlook, and LRF's. They're just too fraught and garden pathful, well for this part of the world at the very least. Signals... More like smoke signals sos

If that's what you think then why do you even bother posting in here?

Weather forecasting models have made big progress in recent decades but we only focus on when they fail, rather then when they succeed. If we took your attitude towards things we would be living in caves still.

Obviously it's gotten much much better. But this week has been pathetic regarding where the low would go, how far North, South etc, would we have paid it any attention if it was just standard rain?  In these types of scenarios they're still pretty useless, with cold air over us. Perfect if it looks zonal for a week. Struggling to work out where a low will go a day or two before hand is hardly the stuff of finnese.

  6. Weather does seem out of Whack in general. Hardly any wind storms up here anymore compared to the 90s early 00s. Climate just seems to have gotten even more bland. Weeks of nothingness seem to be more common. I see mullingar has water restrictions put in place in January due to critical low water levels. In January that's mad.

  7. Maybe some hope for us in the northern third of Ireland. Met Éireann Ulster update 1hr ago

    Tomorrow

Cold and increasingly windy on Thursday. Remaining frost, ice and fog soon clearing. Some sleet and snow will extend northeastwards during the day, turning to rain in southern areas later. Top temperatures just 2 to 3 degrees and feeling colder in the easterly wind.

  8. Was a load of dung for me tbh, a dusting from a 10 minute shower that's all, I know others got none and I should shut up but crazy snow showers especially to my south been missing me all night and they die when they're on the way to me. Hi Res models were wrong for my location, right for others. My 1cm won't take long burning away tomorrow morning lol. I'm calling it a night. Enjoy those who did well.
