  1. Thunder and lightning just now in Stornoway! Flash easily visible and good rumbling afterwards.
  2. More and more cold air arriving, after a +9.3°C during the night (with the warm front) now +3.4°C in Stornoway. Already had a couple of graupel showers with nice temporary blanketing over grass and car roofs.
  3. Here in Stornoway we have already had many graupel showers, some sleet too in one occasion. The WRF is saying the same for around midnight
  4. The storm at sunset from the latest satellite. Look at all that mesoscale cellular convection coming from the west...
  5. Great representation of the broken fragments of the squall line from the latest radar!
  6. I think this is the point that should be emphasized for some areas by the general media. Since we already had strong storms in the recent past, something is bound to have been weakened by them. You can read that in some warning descriptions, but it is not publicised at large.
  7. No, I was referring to the convergence of winds at low levels, basically where you can see two different wind streams merging together along a line. Like this:
  8. No much change between WRF 12z and 00z today for the squall development. The convergence is quite evident from the models.
  9. Storm Franklin just been named. It seems that the Amber Warning that is about to be published should cover N Ireland.
  10. WRF 12z seem to still see the squall line forming tomorrow afternoon/evening for parts of Wales and England. Possible 60-70 mph local gusts and high rain rates close to the transit of the squall. Better stay alert and safe.
  11. You're right, I hadn't noticed that at first glance, but the squall line is definitely there, just right alongh the Theta-e boundary switch.
  12. Light veil of snow during the night in Stornoway, well frozen at sunrise with min temperature of -1.1°C. Cyclone is deepening SE of Iceland in these hours now, the WRF is seeing a possible strong event for late Sunday/early Monday.
  13. Snowing right now in Stornoway, but it's a fast thing that's already stopping. It gave a nice white veil on cars though. More should be arriving around midnight. WRF is seeing something strong coming between Sunday and Monday...
  14. I managed to find my credentials to log in here, and wow... this group wasn't here before, it seems much has changed! Onto the weather, classic calm day here on the Isle of Lewis, +5.2°C max at my station, now +2.1°C. Waiting for the band of clouds above us to come down and maybe see some small wintry precipitation. Seems to be cold tomorrow over most of the mainland...
