  1. Was going to say the very same thing myself. A bit surprised this storm isn't doing much in Stoke.
  2. Yeah, but come on, how many good falls of snow does Halton get in March and April? Especially when we reach the equinox and overnight snow is scorched away by lunchtime. Cold springs are a drag for low ground. Sooner get some real stuff out of the way now and have 10 months of summer.
  3. It's probably for the best really - the way things have gone so far it would probably advect warm air over us from the Irish Sea giving rain here before passing through the Cheshire gap and giving blizzards in the midlands and south east.
  4. Like I say, the Met Office predict it will hit western Scotland tomorrow, and they have a warning of snow for a very small area - Strathclyde - which reflects how small the low is.
  5. Don't know about 2 in the morning, the snow has well and truly set in across much of the midlands, covering the motorways around Birmingham and Coventry. As for us, forget it, the precipitation is moving away now. Yes, it does look like a polar low, the Met have a warning for it to hit western Scotland tomorrow.
  6. Well I'm not expecting much if anything here in north Cheshire. I noticed that Merseyside was left off last night but wasn't sure whether that was an error. I can't see some magic snowline appearing between Halton and Liverpool.
  7. Apparently the main stuff is still some way off yet and still forming out at sea. But there are some pretty intense echoes in the south west corner though which should make things interesting for you late afternoon.
  8. Well at your location anything you get will most likely be snow, just a question of how heavy. Off the hills if people don't expect anything then they won't be disappointed but might get a nice surprise. Having said that, it's probably either going to be elation or complete desperation on here tomorrow haha!
  9. Reports of sleet at Brize Norton + Little Rissington.
  10. Still so much uncertainty within 24 hours. I think areas that already have had decent snowfalls are in the right place again - a swathe from east midlands Northamptonshire across Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, West Midlands to Shropshire then into the back of beyond (mid/south Wales). Northwards into Staffordshire, Derbyshire and the Peak District, and South Yorkshire. As for closer to home there is a chance for Cheshire, Manchester + Merseyside but there is a fair possibility that once again the easterly flow over the Pennines will disrupt the precipitation enough to diminish the preciptation making it fairly light and patchy. This has already happened a few times in this cold spell with the showers from the east followed by the fronts from the south and TEITS posted an image from the NMM radar forecast in the winter storm thread which suggests this may happen again - heavy precipitation to the east of Cheshire and into Wales but with a nice rain/snow shadow in the middle. So if you live in an area where the easterly wind doesn't cause a problem e.g. east Manchester then you may be OK. Here in Warrington we are in about the worst spot with usually a hole in the precipitation.
  11. That's the plan. I will put the snowshield on full power tonight to make sure none of the pesky white stuff sneaks through.
  12. There's even a decent covering of snow between Northwich and Holmes Chapel, blimey that's not high. Maybe the snowfree zone is shrinking!
  13. Just been in car - sleet shower on windscreen more rain than snow. Also at back edge now, clouds broken can see moon.
  14. Looks like the midlands in general are getting a good covering - here in the NW where the Met are still insisting it's worse with warnings it's very limited. Poor show all round, this winter just keeps getting better and better hahaha!
  15. Warrington - absolutely nowt yet again. Looking at webcams Leek and Stoke have a good covering.
  16. You will be fine with the extra altitude, should get a good covering of a couple of inches. Down here on the low ground it's started a bit sleety snow in Warrington, melting instantly on contact with all surfaces at the moment.
  17. Well it's one thing for it to fall, another for it to settle though.
  18. Sorry to be pedantic but as 200 metres is 656 feet so to say 650 feet or less would be fairly equivalent. Over high ground I would expect that blizzards are fairly common - I've experienced whiteout conditions whilst walking in the Lake District where it was almost impossible to route find without a compass. As for low ground, living in Cheshire I've been deprived of snow never mind blizzards! - but whilst living in Stoke on Trent I think December 8th 1990 there were blizzard conditions for a time, that was one hell of a snowstorm.
  19. Not confident now for today it's hitting at the warmest time. Not confident for Tuesday, the models are converging on a track up the channel for the low. Thursday snow for eastern districts from the north. B*gger all here haha! Let's see what Countryfile says...
  20. My word, now the 12h GFS has the mild air failing to pass over us next Friday and has a stalling front over us before slipping south. There's 1996 again haha!
  21. It will cool down - look at your dewpoint at the moment. For most parts there will be a sharp frost tonight and the wind from the Irish sea which has helped keep the temps up especially near the coast will be more southerly or south easterly when the front approaches.
  22. The only problem with Sunday is that all progged precipitation is low - around 5 or 6 mm tops so maybe couple of inches of snow which what the met are warning. The totals for Monday/Tuesday's low is much, much higher with the GFS giving 15-20 mm and over an inch further south. The temperatures could be marginal but the met don't think so with their forecast for the low being further south so there's a potential dumping Monday night. Of course probably guaranteed it's going to be the same old story of snow with altitude with those in Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and lowground Manchester getting a dusting or slush while looking enviously as the Peaks, Pennines and the Oldham/Saddleworth crew cop an absolute pasting. Then most models are hinting that milder weather is trying to storm in for the end of the week. Even the hopecasters fave ECM sees it coming but somehow magics up another cold blast.
  23. I think it's fairly different to 96 where the front stalled - this one's not going to hang about. I think those are 3 hour totals so it is actually 6 hours of snow
  24. Not sure about tomorrow's snow - maybe fairly light/wet at low levels. However I am more optimistic for Monday night/Tuesday. The Met Office aren't having any of it for our region which seems to run contrary to the model outputs which puts us firmly in the firing line.
