Hi folks, thought I'd join in. Usually here for the snow but love a good storm. I've got a good outlook and the channel is getting darker.

I noticed some members have added personal statements where the cloud types are under their avatars, how do you add this? I assume it's called the personal statement, the help file says it's in the settings but I can't see it, do you need a certain number of posts?. Been wondering for a while, thank you in advance.

House martins are still hanging on down here, I thought they were swallows before until I got a closer look at their tails. I took of them last night, they looked like they were feeding at dusk. I thought they'd be moving on as it's absolutely freezing here!.

A nice storm with shelf cloud passed here about 5.45, didn't hear any thunder, grabbed my camera to take a few photos:

Thanks, I find the little ice age very interesting. In fact I was given a book as a gift a few years ago called "The Little Ice Age: How Climate Made History 1300-1850" by Brian M. Fagan. Which doesn't just have the general facts, but goes into great detail about viking settlements, harvests, european history, vinyard locations, agriculture, nao, ice extent, diarists accounts, how people managed etc it really is a fascinating account and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in this area. It also makes me wonder if we are entering a cooling period how the infrastructure in the UK would cope with the same type of weather.

Lovely. I haven't had the heater on here all the time yet, I've given it a couple of quick bursts now and then such as in the morning when it's cold but probably be a few weeks before I'd put it on more.

How long do the swallows hang around for? There's a chill in the air but I've been watching a group of 10-20 darting about over the sky here this afternoon. I also saw some geese.

Well that was a load of fluff!.

My sentiments exactly. They can't get rid of him he's the only one that ramps up the snow!. Oh well. I recorded a good deal of the snow forecasts and news specials from last winter so he's bound to be in there to watch and enjoy again. That video was great.

I thought I'd share these photos I took this evening.

I'd been wondering what happened to them too, there are usually lots and I haven't seen any.

Are these Anti-crepuscular rays with a rainbow as part of the ray, or perhaps just Anti-crepuscular rays coincidentally converging with a rainbow. I thought it looked interesting. The sun was on the opposite horizon and behind clouds at the time so it's not direct sun rays. I did a video and pan of sky at the time but by that time the rainbow part was fading and it was hard to see.

I think they were all down here on Thursday, there were hundreds of them swarming in the air I took .

Nice thunderstorm here but no hail though, not much lightning, just a couple of flashes and rumbles, but a whole lengthy deluge of rain for a good 5 - 10 minutes, gutters overflowing etc.

I'm keeping my eye on one coming in off France, pretty high anvil can only just see the top of it above the other cloud at the moment. Hoping it comes this way most others have gone east of here so far today.

Some nice anvils around now.
