  1. My 11 year October rainfall record was broken, 218mm (242%) in the end. Squelch. Next challenge: November and all-time lowest pressure and highest wind gust attempts coming up soon!
  2. Amber for wind and yellow for rain here on Thursday, with a forecast pressure of 952 hPa in the bullseye right over my house at 7 am. Bit scary, is that. The lowest here in the last 11 years was 966 in November 2016. Meanwhile, I'm only about 12mm off my record October rainfall over the same period, I wonder how close I'll get before my midnight deadline.
  3. Netweather 24 hour rainfall map for the 25th shows it quite well. IoW in the red zone (48mm+) but the totals are a bit low as they use calendar days. For the event, the red zone spread to the northern Solent areas too (here) and as you say Ryde was 80mm for the 9am 24h total, not the 56+ indicated on the map.
  4. The river Meon did flood in Bridge Street at the bottom of Titchfield, but it was only a few inches deep so I just drove through it (slowly, in the middle of the road). I don't think tonight's hopefully not too heavy rain will make much difference.
  5. Eye of the storm here! 51mm of rain overnight and 61.5mm including yesterday morning's mini-downpour. There was only a yellow warning though, for all intents and purposes but at 6 am, it got an upgrade to amber for a tiny area between Southampton and Portsmouth, Isle of Wight and a few miled further north. The heavy rain area band just got stuck here. River Meon is probably in flood now, I wonder if I can get through at the bottom of Titchfield in a few minutes time. Wish me luck!
  6. Your chance of rain was always higher than 0% though, other parts of Dorset seem to have had a few showers! Light rain again now, at "Meteo 0%" Fareham lol.
  7. Yes, one of those days when zero does not mean zero. BBC weather app: 0% of rain here all day, yes even now when it's raining! Clearly, there never was a 0% chance of rain, as the BBC app often claims. 0% should never be forecast, weatherwise! On the other hand, Met Office for here currently states 30% chance so that's obviously kept much more up to date than the feeble BBC/Meteo effort (which also has a poor wind gust methodology).
  8. Some remarkable temperatures around at 4 am (OK I know, don't ask lol). Here, 20.8. Min so far 20.8. My station all time record 20.4 highest min could go (couple of hours to go yet though). Record for Sep is a mere 17.7! St. Catherines Point: 22.5 (!) but was lower earlier in the night. Middle Wallop 20.5. Camborne 20.9. Portland 20.9. This crazy stuff for any time of year never mind the end of the first week of September. Madness I tell ye, madness!
  9. Well it was more cloudy here today so just sunny periods and lots of thin high cloud, hence a mere 30.3°C max, down on my 31.1 yesterday. Dewpoint was another record though, 23 early this afternoon and still 20.4 with a temp of 23.8 anmd RH 81% - massively oppressive for any month of the year and to cap it all, dead calm. Massive sea breeze effect yesterday, feeble late afternmoon effort today.
  10. 29.1 max here on the north wall (31.1 in the screen!) at 14:47 when we hit a station record high dewpoint (so for at least 11 years) of 22.4°C.Phew what a sticky scorchert But now within an hour, it's down to 26 in the screen and 25 on the north wall. Sea breeze yay!!!
  11. Was hoping for a dry day down here too today but thanks Winchester, the heavy shower you sent us has now arrived!
  12. Just the odd bit of light drizzle today here so far, recordable as trace or 0.1mm. Assuming that today's max of 18.1¸°C remains intact (16.9 now), it is the first and only day this month failing to exceed 21 degrees C. here. Mean maximum for the month here will be close to 25.0°C, mean minimum about 13.4 and the mean mean (!) about 18.9. This makes it the hottest June here in my 10 years of VP2 records, for min (barely!), max (by 3 degrees) and mean (by 1.5). It was also my 4th. hottest mean maximum of any month, being beaten here by July 2018, July and August 2022. Daytime means will be a bit higher here than nearby official stations due to screen and site-type differences, and the suburban locality but this has always been the case here.
  13. Bit further inland than your goodself of course, it hit 31.2 here this afternoon. Hot hot hot! And still a mere 3mm total rainfall in the last 33 days.
  14. 29.3°C here, (BBC and Met Office weather nonsensically say 24, their apps think I live down on the beach!). The big news is seeing some proper cumulus clouds on the northern horizon, after about 3 weeks without.
  15. 25.6°C* here at 16:48, marvellous stuff, 15th., successive day over 20 deg C, dry and sunny every afternmoon and most mornings. More!!! *PS: OK, let's knock off a degree for the Davis VP2 screen vs. a Stevenson, so 24.x°C really!
  16. Well it's raining, and that'll be a surprise to most people unless they understand about fronts. Very little if any forecasts of rain today, cloud yes but rain essentially no. Yet that pesky little front from the continent's been shown on the TV charts so some of us may have guessed. Mainstream forecasts? Well the BBC weather app said an hour ago 0% chance of rain here this afternoon. 0% I tell ye! Egg on face of app. At least the Met Office one indicated the chance of a light shower but still, most people won't have had a clue. Oh well.
  17. Met Office online 'app' forecast for here was OK, clearly indicated a drop off in gusts from 3pm (correct!) whereas the BBC/Meteo app forecast the strongest winds continuing until about 7 pm. Met Office 1, BBC/Meteo 0. Next door neighbour's mancave (shed!) roof covering was ripped off and in Fareham town centre, a pedestrian was seriously hurt by collapsing scaffolding. Here, it was a wild first half of the afternoon alright, clearly shown on the Soton Docks wind graph (a similar gust was seen at the airport too). Oh, and weird April temperatures: Max 12.5°C at 12:51; min 5.4°C at 15:50!
  18. Broke my April wind gust record here, its only at 3m so much lower than 10m obviously but Soton Airport has had a gust of 63 mph! Next door neighbours shed roof has gone. Just been out to add a bit of strength to a wildly wobbling fence panel. It's windy out there lol (and wet and COLD at 6.1 5.9°C).
  19. 12 inches of lying snow reported in Buxton Derbyshire this morning! Reminds me of the years long ago when I used to work there - that was an annual occurrence! Meanwhile, I have a strange looking temperature graph for the last 48 hours, here: Max today looks like it will be 9.3°C at 01:16.
  20. Didn't expect the snow to get this far south but here it is! Sticking on cars and fences at the moment, +0.7°C but -0.3°C down on the grass. Expecting a sl;ight overall covering soon but... when it stops, will it last the morning? That is the question. EDIT: rain gauge shows no rain falling so it must be clogged with snow!
  21. Grass went below zero at 4pm, air at 6:30 but the clearance has started to, er, clear, so things could soon be going up again. EDIT that din't last long, -5.2 on the grass... -0.4°C in the air, clear again. 8th. consecutive day of air and grass frost now.
  22. This is one weird 24 hour temperature graph. No air frost, very little grass frost but two huge dips on the ground due to holes in the cloud. Shows the mins and maxes well - warmer last night and colder today, than forecast.
  23. Have only just noticed, yesterday's minimum of -4.4°C was my lowest January minimum for 12 years, since January 2010. Not many particularly cold Januarys during that period of time.
  24. Remarkably consistent period of rain this morning, 32.4mm in the 12 hours from midnight to midday in the check gauge, with no breaks at all. VP2 tip bucket needs adjusting though, it only recorded 24.6mm, annoying. Min temp 7.9, max 11.8.
