  1. Always interesting to compare your more coastal location with mine, I had 29.6 max yesterday but at midnight I was down to 17.5, and min 13.4 at 0550. These kind of differences repeatedly fool the Met Office and BBC weather apps for here, they seem to have Fareham down as coastal (which parts of it are!) but NW Fareham is far less influenced by the sea, things like sea breezes arrive later (if at all) so I have to check forecasts for places like Botley or even further inland. I just don't believe the Met Office current app forecast of maxima of 29 on Weds, Thurs and Fri - that would surprise me. And today, I hit 30 earlier before, before the wind direction swung from ENE to S/SW and pegged it back to 28 in mid afternoon.
  2. 0.53 mm for the month here, 1.2% of long term average. Remarkable - though not quite as much as yours (the odd .03 is because I record 'trace' as 0.01mm). Nice warm day here today, sunny periods, min 15.9°C, max 26.4 at 2pm. Max for the month was 34.8 on the 19th.
  3. Had a few spots in the first band lasting about 5 minutes, all evaporated within the following 5 minutes. Had a bout 10 spots in the 2nd. band, but now you'd never guess we had a anything at all, not even in the rain gauges. Now down to 25.5, all windows open to grab the breeze while it lasts. Still 28 inside though.
  4. Me too, done it! Station maximum record just went, now 34.7° following my night minimum being utterly demolished last night (23.6).
  5. That explalns Emley Moor, about 875 feet amsl. Looks from the hourly synops like it stayed above 26 last night (lowest hourly was 26.6) and it might be the new UK highest night minimum record holder (!) Meanwhile back here in Central S England, my night minimum looks like it will be 23.6°C (it's started climbing now, is 23.9) which is mad and demolishes my previous highest by several degrees. Crazy stuff.
  6. Temperature here has gone up from 24.6°C (min so far) at 11:30 to 25.0 now at 00:10. Wind ENE at around 5 mph so at least there is a bit of air circulation through upstairs open windows.
  7. @lettice - 31 at 11:50 Southampton Airport, it's now reached 31 here but I'm a lot nearer Soton than you obviously. Feels like Majorca outside lol.
  8. Now 30.3 in the screen and 30.0 on the north wall here at 11:30. Which exceeds the current forecast max of 29 on the BBC and Met Office websites. I see you've already beat your forecast maximum too, of only 27 and 29 respectively (on those two sites).
  9. Showery rain is reaching the ground here, larege spots and enough to 90% wet my paving stones. Nothing dramatic but it's holding the temperature up at currently 21.8°C. The forecast maximums for Monday and Tuesday here are now lower and back in the realms of normality, 29 to 30 i.e. not IMO worthy of an Extreme Heat amber warning that we've been seeing for several days. Maybe that will filter through to the Red warning areas - I will be surprised now to see 40 anywhere, maybe the 38.7 will survive after all? ** We shall soon see. ** I hasten to add, on Monday. Tuesday looks to be hotter.
  10. Meanwhile down here much nearer to the S coast it peaked at 27.1 this afternoon. Am expecting maybe 32 here tomorrow, 23 minimum the following night, but no records will go, that week in August 2020 exceeded 34°C on a couple of days here. But I was away on holiday for the entire week and missed the lot lol. Any chance of a 24h record high minimum will be wrecked by Tuesday evening's rapid cool-off. But I go back much further that that! In June 1976 on the days Southampton Mayflower Park broke the UK record for June (and still holds it) I recorded 35 C in the shade on the outside north wall of the office I worked in, on 2 successive days. Now that was hhhottt!!!!
  11. I think the expected wind off the Channel will save us from melting over the next few days so I'm not complaining, not even today lol. Far enough inland to touch 26.6°C here this afternoon, nice!
  12. Luckily my max of 30.2°C was verified by the Met Office official site at Fleetlands (Gosport/Fareham boundary) this afternoon - they recorded 30.1, highest in the UK at the time reported. Except for me, of course!
  13. Well it was a mere 27°C here a couple of hours ago. But then the sun came out and it's peaked (I think) at 30.2. Phew what a(nother) scorcher. Settled back to 29.1, minimum was 18.3.
  14. Max 29.5C here on Monday in the sunny VP2 screen and 28.6 in the permanently shaded north wall screen. Noticeably hotter than lettice had in Gosport but we are 8 miles NW (closer to Southampton) and much less affected by coastal breezes.
  15. 30.3 here just now on the VP2. But there's a but. My 'check' thermometer sheltered / screened on my north facing wall has maxed out at 28.2 so far. It's one of those days and time of year when that pesky screen / walled garden effect maxes out. I will have to record the VP2 though the reality is likely going to be somewhere between the two.
  16. Nice early morning surprise for me today, still 12.8 °C but it was a Noctilucent day and that always make it worthwhile being up early. Taken with a mere Samsung S20 phone handheld.
  17. I was just fretting about the 8°C temperature drop here in 4 hours this afternoon but then I noticed Biarritz drop from 42.9 to 22.4 in 2 hours this afternoon. Bit of a shock to the system there!
  18. I can confidently say today's max here is 24.5°C, at 11:20 but 75 minutes ago it was still 24.1 - minimum overnight of 15.6. It's down to 21.0 here now and overcast but barely any of that rain shown overhead here on the radar has reached the ground, pavements and grass dry, just a few spots. We peaked at 27.8 on Thursday.
  19. I'm a bit concerned that we have gradually lost the simplicity of a primarily text based internet forum. This one is now unlike any that I've ever seen (over decades) and I have to scroll down menus or click to another page more frequently than ever before, just to see what's there. The menu design looks pretty but graphics accompanying the menu titles added nothing apart from that IMO, and makes it harder/slower to find stuff you only occasionally visit. The Groups feature already added a bit more complexity and now, it's all too much for my old eyes. Sometimes, simple and familiar is better. Others may completely disagree and I don't want to start an argument about it, so I'll just leave it there.
  20. You were right, the forecast for here was pretty much as bad. Dull and overcast all afternoon with over 2 hours of continuous rain or drizzle (6+ mm) from just before the red arrows were scheduled to overfly us. Cloud base from Exeter to Bournemouth was mostly under 1,000 feet with mist, drizzle or rain - and in London dry but 900 feet cloud base so no chance there either. Once it was too late to do the fly pasts, the planes returned to RAF Fairford and that was that.
  21. After Southampton Docks at 4:35, they go east to Locks Heath (well Park Gate actually) then off to Cowplain and beyond. Forecast isn't too bad for Sunday afternoon, maybe a few light showers, they say. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1zSjbdct4OQVRQdKmFXPFm7lWpWRMtYA&ll=50.51328262389459%2C-1.4771061733809407&z=8 I managed to miss all the showers hereabouts other than a few spots that barely showed up on the ground. Peaked at 24°C in the noon sunshine and is still at 21.3. And now the sun is starting to break through again.
