Oh my God call the police the MetOffice is showing 20C!

You're over reacting a bit there aren't you? Though actually yes 20 degrees is very, very HOT for you Irish people, haha. I think you want to ask for the FIRE BRIGADE, though mate, not the police.

  2. Found some cheap flights to Amsterdam from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, wondering if I might go "heat chasing" on the continent next week. But then I realise I would have to find somewhere to stay, which would be expensive, so thought against it. Real shame though, would be nice to experience some real heat.

In South Yorkshire it looks like a very ordinary warm blip/spell with temps up to 25 degrees so nothing unusual and nowhere near as above average as the cold crap last week was below average (high of 10 here).

A funny day warm morning then suddenly cool then a sunny afternoon. Average temps for time of year

Max temp 18.7C, now 17.2C, Barometer 1020mb rising, Wind F2 WSW, Rainfall Trace

Interesting how your late afternoon temps are way lower than mine half the time - I have both a digital and analogue thermometer both in the shade over grass and 5ft above ground, both reading 19°C, whereas yours is on 17. Wonder why the difference?

Since when has Yorkshire in mid-June had average maxes at 20c?...that's what I expect here in Essex currently.

In the 1981-2010 averages some parts of South Yorkshire do indeed average a max of 20 degrees in late June.

Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport, metoffice 1981-2010 averages:

June average high 19.5°C - seeing as that's the average high that would be for mid-June, but we're nearly a week past that, so would be approaching 20 now.

Yes we actually see temps on par with some parts of SE England in June. Probably because of local topographical effects of warming of the air off the Peninnes.

I thought you'd mention last summer which for most of May, June and first half of July was true...but undoubtedly our dew points do rise as the summer wears on, as the Atlantic heats up. For most of last summer we had continental influenced conditions that doesn't always happen.

Higher dewpoints in UK warm spells are more likely in transient plume events such as the possibility next week, but this rarely is more than 2-3 days.  Even so I've not seen a DP over 21 in past such examples, or if it did it was one day. Don't think that's going to harm anyone, but it's more a case of people not being used to it - good thing then these plumes only last about 24 hours.

Heat which usually is accompanied by humidity in this country isn't fun if you suffer with breathing problems/asthma...

St James Park, London is averaging so far to the 19th - 19.75c max average, so considering 21c is the max average for London and June I'd say probably running fractionally below average (Don't forget the month started very warm).

No it really isn't though. UK warm spells don't have particularly high dew points. Try dewpoints 20+°C if you want to talk about humidity, almost unheard of in the UK even in warm spells. Europe outdoes us for higher dewpoints in the hot weather they get, even Sweden had dewpoints of 23°C last week, which is about higher than anywhere in the UK has ever recorded.

Looking through last summer's warmest days shows relative humidity average values lower than 50% in the UK (and this is compared to the mean temperature, not the max), which is dewpoints no higher than 11-12°C - not close to humidity when you think that places in the Midwest USA, and parts of Europe get dewpoints into the mid-20's.

I see there’s a storm forecast for Friday in my part of Latvia. That’s all I need for my flight home. I’ll feel like Roger Moore in Moonraker! Yes, the G force scene lol.

Sounds great, I hate boring smooth flights. Give me turbulence any day! I remember a flight in 2016 over the Persian Gulf with thunderstorms, turbulence all the way and lightning outside the window. It was a night flight, only thing that made me feel a bit sick was the awful pastry snack they served us which was a smell I could do without lol.
