All a thunderstorm has to be to be a Supercell is have a persistent rotating mesocyclone. Unfortunately without doppler radar we cannot really tell. The parameters are there today.

    As good as it gets.

  2. The outlook is not looking very active, but I don't always rely on GFS, for now the outlook looks low over the coming days even for us back home in UK/Ireland until the end of May. As claimed by NWS and I agree with below....

    ZCZC SPCSWOD48 ALL ACUS48 KWNS 200841 SPC AC 200841

Day 4-8 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0341 AM CDT Sat May 20 2023

    Valid 231200Z - 281200Z

    ...DISCUSSION...

Upper ridging is expected to persist across the central CONUS throughout much of the extended period, with modest mid-level flow anticipated across the CONUS during this time frame as well. The absence of any large-scale synoptic systems will allow for low-level moisture to be maintained along the southern and western periphery of extensive surface ridging, keeping a large reservoir of 60+ dewpoints over the central and southern Plains. Persistent southwesterly flow aloft is expected across the southern Rockies during this period, helping to support continued lee troughing as well as diurnal thunderstorm initiation over the higher terrain. These thunderstorms could then move into the more moist and unstable conditions across the central/southern High Plains, contributing to some severe storm potential. Additionally, a moderate low-level jet is anticipated nightly across the southern and central High Plains, supporting severe potential late into the evening. However, given the forecast range, overall convective evolution remains uncertain, with preceding thunderstorm activity greatly impacting the following day's severe potential. This limits predictability, resulting in low forecast confidence.

There is some signal in the medium-range guidance that a more substantial southern-stream shortwave trough will move through the Southwest this weekend. However, variability remains high within the guidance, and predictability is low.

Day 4-8 Severe Weather Outlook Issued on May 20, 2023

From my point of view I have seen some models showing Thunderstorms rather severe heavy rains/hail so that gives me reason to doubt future forecasting predictions, one say one while the other says different, to add there was a tornado reported to NWS on the 18/5/23 and that was outside the 2% tornado zone even outside the slight risk zone, also I'd like to add it's not always about Tornados I mean who doesn't like a good ol mothership or pancake and perhaps a short-lived tornado or funnel.

Best bet is to stay with now casting over the coming days.

Off-topic: I can finally catch up with JayztwoCents streams.

Edit: For the NW chasers on here going to or are already in the USA defiantly stick with now cast, in the image below..I'm taking a big risk doing this please do not fully go by my predictions, keep an eye open in these areas, yes Tornado ally haha but at little more east. And yes, I give you guy's permission to beat me up over this *waits for the pros*.

    Edit:is that a funnel?

As Dr Timmer would say, a nipple. Gives me hope as he's not in the tornado 2% risk area 🤔.

Edit: I don't see much rotation.

  5. It’s been a record-long 10 years since the last EF5 tornado happened in the U.S. And while that statistic sounds notable, it doesn't tell the whole story.

May 20, 2013 was a horrifying day. That afternoon, a violent tornado raked through central Oklahoma from Newcastle to Moore to the southern side of Oklahoma City. This single tornado killed 24, injured 207 and was responsible for $2 billion in damage. It was also rated EF5.
