It’s been a record-long 10 years since the last EF5 tornado happened in the U.S. And while that statistic sounds notable, it doesn't tell the whole story.
May 20, 2013 was a horrifying day. That afternoon, a violent tornado raked through central Oklahoma from Newcastle to Moore to the southern side of Oklahoma City. This single tornado killed 24, injured 207 and was responsible for $2 billion in damage. It was also rated EF5.

SUMMARY...The risk mainly for large hail, isolated damaging gusts, and perhaps a tornado will continue this afternoon/evening across portions of eastern OK and the ArkLaTex. Additional storm development over central OK may spread eastward with a severe threat later this afternoon/evening.

Geneva, 3 May 2023 (WMO) - The likelihood of El Niño developing later this year is increasing, according to a new update from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This would have the opposite impacts on weather and climate patterns in many regions of the world to the long-running La Niña, and would likely fuel higher global temperatures.
The unusually stubborn La Niña has now ended after a three-year run, and the tropical Pacific is currently in an ENSO-neutral state (neither El Niño nor La Niña).

Met Éireann has announced that it is replacing the weather radar located at Shannon Airport to install a brand-new weather radar system with upgraded technology and capabilities.
The Shannon weather radar is part of the national weather radar network, which currently consists of two weather radars, one located at Shannon Airport and the other at Dublin Airport. This weather radar network provides a steady stream of information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year via the Met Éireann website and app, and is used to provide information on the location and intensity of precipitation across Ireland. The new weather radar system in Shannon will provide enhanced precipitation measurement capabilities. This will result in benefits for Met Éireann forecasting services and for the rainfall radar maps offered to the public.

Interesting that Met Eireann and Net Weather radar never picked up two moderate showers (enough to soak your clothes while walking in it) over my location
