  1. Grrr, feel so annoyed with myself. Looks like I needed to have stayed up a couple more hours. See that someone has posted a photo on Twitter of the display last night from London as well, so it can be done.
  2. Hmm... hmmm... hmmmm... Bit of an adventure tonight. Went to my vantage point but didn't see anything. Just when I gave up and went back in, I saw some Twitter reports of NLC. Had a bit of a walk locally but saw nothing. I think I am concluding that the light pollution round these parts is just too intense. Between that and the difficulties getting a good view of the horizon, I think I need to reserve NLC hunting for when I am out of town.
  3. Mixed feelings about the latest image. Seems very "middle of the road". Not that it matters much, I am still going to go and take a look in any event . I think the last two images are evidence of just how quickly things can change in the space of just a single day.
  4. Wow, what a shocker the latest AIM image is for tonight. Looks like somebody has taken a big bite right out of it. Annoyingly, forecast to be another clear night here as well. Guess you can never know what will happen though...
  5. Interesting that pollution gets mentioned. I did notice there was a bit of a “smog” out there this evening.
  6. Clear skies here but did not manage to see anything. No doubt there will be at least some activity throughout the early hours though.
  7. Great images/footage guys! Thanks for sharing. Much like Rob, I have to go for a little bit of a wander to get a decent view of the horizon. There is only so long one can loiter around South London parks before arousing suspicion though.
  8. Clouds did surprisingly break up quite a bit here, though still far from perfect. Went and had a look, nothing. Good to know individuals like Arnie and others will have them documented if they do appear though.
  9. As good as the forecast for NLCs look this evening, I am not sure it will matter much around here. Bordering on overcast here
  10. Interestingly, the AIM for 28th of June suggests quite a good showing (although on second viewing, I think it likely better positioned for UK on 29th of June), compared with the "forecast" one. A good showing was not consistent with my observations though. I didn't see anything but that might be more down to obvserver error or the fact UK wasn't close enough until the morning to take advantage of it.
  11. Many Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Good to know my understanding is correct. I did ambitiously go out and have a look this evening until around 2300 but didn't see anything, which I guess is in line with expectations. Shame, weather was perfect.
  12. Lurker here... Been following this thread and keen to try and have a stab at catching some NLC's. Tonight is forecast to be clear down my neck of the woods (London) but if I am interpreting everything that has been previously posted on this thread correctly (unlikely), the AIM image suggests unfavourable conditions for this evening, given the UK is now sat around about where that big fat "notch" is in the top right section of the image. I understand that there is some "pot luck" involved in any event but I am curious to know if my thinking is correct.
