  1. Here in Winterbourne, Bristol it's still snowing heavily and even the main road now starting to get covered now there are fewer cars about. Getting a great covering on top of the snow we still had left over from last week. Doesn't look like the wind is having much affect here though. Could be my position in the valley by the river though. How about you Kumquat?
  2. Here in snowy Winterbourne, North Bristol it has already covered my drive that I had cleared and is coming down quite steadily now. It doesn't look like it affecting the main road yet but that is busy at the moment anyway. Looking at the radar, it certainly looks like that hole is filling up now. This is going to be quite an interesting night!
  3. Just been out to get my car ready for a trip to pick up my son and the car thermometer already saying -8. When I did the same for my wife this morning at 6am it was showing -11.5. I even (sadly!) took a photo of that as you don't see it that low too often. God knows what it will get down to tonight.........In Winterbourne, Bristol by the way. i cleared the drive during the afternoon and even with the sun on it there was no thaw. The most we have lost here is some snow off the trees that were in the sun.
  4. Just started snowing here again in Winterbourne, Bristol
  5. That band of snow certainly looks like it is moving south west towards Bristol and on the radio they just said there is another weather advisory for more snow this afternoon! Not looked for any updates on Meto yet though.
  6. Snow's getting heavy here in Winterbourne, Bristol now. Looks like a shower though for about half an hour and then after a short while the main snow band is going to hit.
  7. We at least have a good surface for it when it comes. The small amount of snow we had this afternoon is still there so that's good news. Going to be a nightmare getting away from the lamppost watching!!
  8. On the radar at the moment it just looks like it wants to go around us. If it moves a little bit east it will come straight down on top of us!!
  9. Just the beginning, I hope. I'm in Winterbourne too, down by the Globe, on the river.
  10. I get that horrible feeling that we will just get the rain again and the electrical activity will be to the east and north of us!
  11. Thanks Coast, useful links, just what I was after.
  12. Hi, can anybody let me know a good link that shows current sea temperatures around Europe?
  13. This is what the cell to the south East of Bristol looks like from a distance. I'm surprised there are still no sferics from these!
  14. There was a couple of rumbles of thunder from that cell just west of Bristol but it seems to be dying now!! That was shortlived.
  15. That's a bit of a sweeping comment there!! Winter Storm does not just mean a snow event and I think you'll find that most of the south of the country and midlands were affected by it either by snow or rain and floods!
  16. Not far off!! I'm down by the Globe pub right by the river. You should see how high that is right now too!! I can hear the wind picking up a bit now.
  17. Main road has a covering on it now here in Frampton North Bristol. Cars moving very slowly. Hardly any wind here yet although it is snowing quitre heavily.
  18. Definately snowing in Frampton Cotterell North Bristol right now. It's been sleet on and off for a while and very icy rain that was starting to settle on the cars. Snow is now starting to settle on my drive. At the rate it's coming down there will be a covering very soon!!
  19. Yes, snowing here in Frampton N Bristol and look at what's heading our way on the radar!!
  20. Doesn't look like it on the radar right now. I'm just hoping the sun doesn't come out and start melting it yet. If we did get some more tonight it would be great on top of this!! We so often miss the snow here in Bristol. Just shows that it can happen. My kids were gutted this morning as they listened to all the school closures and found that theirs was still open!!
  21. Good dumping of snow her in Frampton Cotterell on the North edge of Bristol. Got around 4 inches here. Saw 2 snowploughs going down the road together this morning, firsdt time I have seen that in very many years. Here are a couple of pics.
  22. Just because we do not know of any way to travel those kind of distances in a relatively short time does not mean it is not possible. Remember that a few hundred years ago we did not even know how to make and use electricity and some of the technology and science we know now would have seemed like magic to people back then. We would be naïve not to believe that there may still be branches of science that could be just as ‘magical’ to us right now!!!! Still doesn't answer the question of why they could be bothered to travel here though!!
  23. Thanks for that, I misunderstood the magnitude scales then. Great explanation!!
  24. Thanks FFO. That was a very helpful answer. I'm guessing that it would have been one of the other satellites as it was very bright. I'll have a play with that site again now.
