  1. I saw something go over Bristol this evening that looked like it was probably a satellite crossing. How can I find out if the Space station went over earlier today or any other satellite. I know the link to view satellite tracking as it happens or future tracks but not how to find previous track. Can anyone help?
  2. I'm sure I read somewhere recently that there are more emmisions from shipping than there are from air travel. I guess that the emmisons from air travel spread around more than the emmisions from shipping due to the height at which they are emmited and are more obvious due to the contrails. Anyway unless we stop travelling altogether, moving all the cargo back to shipping won't alleviate it!! Combatting it the way the airlines are doing so now with 'cleaner' engines is clearly the right way forward in my opinion.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if it is caused by the impact opening a fissure in the earth and people are being affected by gasses from that.
  4. Been watching on and off and seen a few reasonable ones but just saw one that went across about three quarters of the sky and very bright. Going to have to go back out for a while longer I think!!
  5. I guess it depends on where you are. I heard that the Thames is still rising and the peak will be in the early hours of tomorrow morning so some people have yet to feel the full effect!!!
  6. I drove over the Severn Bridge around 6pm last night and that was some of the meanest looking cloud I have ever seen in this country. We all saw clear rotation in the cloud at the leading edge although it didn't quite make it to a fully formed funnel. I couldn't take pictures as I had a carfull of kids on their way to camp!! The rain was torrential over the bridge.
  7. Joking about death is part of human nature and doesn't mean that people don't care! Generally the jokes are made because there is nothing that you can do to stop it. Lets face it, we are all going to die at some point and we cannot stop that. I agree that wen there is something that can be done about it then we should. In the intance of Global Warming we can all do our bit to try to help and I'd like to think we would all do that (well....apart from those that hope it will shut down the NAD and give us areal winter!!!!). However, there is not a lot I or the average person in the street can do about the possibility of an Asteroid hitting us, hence the jokes. On a lighter note, just before it hits it would make great viewing!!!!
  8. It turned to sleet here in North Bristol just before lunch but is back to snow again now. Not settling at the moment other than on the snow that fell this morning. I popped into town about an hour ago and the tempeature (in the car guage) was 2.5 there and 2 up here. I expect there is quite a bit up on the hills around the cotswolds.
  9. It's been snowing all morning here in North Bristol. I'm at about 80 metres and it's snow, down in the centre it's just sleet. Looking at the precip coming our way, it could be an interesting morning. Certainly way more snow than was forcast!
  10. This storm came right over us in Heathrow. Everone in the office were looking out of the window as there were a couple of great lightening bolts and then the trees outside the window were bending right over. There are a lot of broken baranches down there that came off them. I didn't see any formation of a tornado but it was the blackest sky I have seen in this country in a long while. I suspect it was the same cell but hadn't quite formed up yet.
  11. I remember that cold spell very well. I was staying on a course in Dorset when it snowed overnight and all the heating systems gave up the ghost. We all had to leave the next morning. I drove accross country back to Bristol with a couple of other guys. It took us about 8 hours to get home. We had to wait for a couple of roads to be cleared at Shepton Mallet and then drove through a section where the snow eather side of the road was about 8 or more feet high. a little further on we started to pass a queue of about 20 or more lorries that had to park up because they couldn't get up a hill just ahead of them. It was a fantastic day for a snow lover but I didn't have a camera with me. I would have loved to look back on some of those sights today.
  12. I was woken up this morning round 5:00am by torrential rain with very strong wind. It remained very windy for about another hour. Looking at the Met Office radar, it looks like we had quite a powerfull weather front pass over us around that time. Currently sunny and breezy feeling cool.
  13. What's the furthest south auroras have been seen in this country?
  14. In London today near Heathrow. Just had a brief but very heavy shower of snow. Instantly settled on cars and roofs but melted within about 10 minutes of stopping.
  15. Starting to get some frequent snow showers here in Bristol now.
  16. Had a snow shower here early this morning. Some dark clouds around at the moment looking north but not much showing on the radar. Roll on Monday!
