The last few days have finally finished off the trees in my garden,
the 3 large populus tremulas have dumped their leaves,
the acer pseudoplatanuses are shrivelled and on the way down,
but the liquidamber( a proper botanical name) is I can safely say, magnificent,
there is nothing on the earth that goes that red,
but the neighbours apple trees still have apples.
-
The garden is in shade now,
Temp dropped sharply now about 4C,
Clear all day some clouds to south,
Expecting a hard frost tonight.
-
Only small patches of frost left in the shade,
Temp 4/5C,
Measured the thickness of the ice on the pond,
17mm
The ice in the wheelbarrow ( in shade),
looks to be at about 30mm,
I will leaving this to see how thick it get.

hard frost overnight.
Visibility good 4 miles,
Temp 2C,
No wind,
In sunny parts of the garden frost has gone,
And the sun feels warm,
sky clear.

Yep, spot on Paul. Harpur Hill is about 18 miles from me but is at 335 m in a relatively flat area surrounded by hills up to 450m. Their min' last night was -3.9c, mine was
-0.8c. I'm at 330m but at the edge of a plateau which rises to 358m; the land all around, apart from the west, falls away to 200m or lower.

I live on top of a hill at 400cm! above sea level
the valley floor is 2m below sea level
on some days the 6m can make a tremendous difference!

Left home at 7am,
Had been a hard frost (puddles hard a good ice covering),
But only a light frost left in shelted spots,
I assume in the early hours the temp must of risen,
Clear all day no cloud,
Nw wind cold,
Very bright full moon,
Temp 4 to 5C,
No wind,
-
Clear start to the day temp 6C,
windy,
Working in Skegness again,
As I drove north sky became cloudy,
Could see showers all around,
during showers temp dropped,
4 to 5C
In the afternoon clouds and showers cleared,
Pastel coloured sunset with full moon to north,
Now:
Temp 5C,
No wind,
Clear sky,
The moon has large silver halo.
-
Another day working in Skegness,
Mild start overcast drizzling,
As I drove north drizzle stopped,
Clouds began to break up,
sky was clear with a scattering of high cloud in Skegness,
Clear all day warm enough to work outside in T-shirt,
Boring sunset,
Temp now about 6C,
Full moon very bright,
No wind.
Think I saw mars on the way home?

Working in Skegness today,
Left home 7am,
Clear sky with a good frost covering the ground,
All gone by 8.30am,
Cool day reached about 7c,
High cloud sneaked in throw afternoon,
Total cover by home time,
As I drove south,
Drove out from under cloud,
Just in time to see sun set,(all the reds, oranges and pink you can imagine),
Now patchy cloud full moon,
Temp 6C
light wind,
light dew,
-
The light cloud which we started with cleared by about 12pm.
The sun took the chill of the air and we reached about 8C.
We still have a total clear sky,
With a nearly full moon lighting up the garden,
Dew was on the grass at 4pm,
Any wind has gone,
Temp is about 3C,
We must be in for a frost
-
Had a late start,
If there was any frost missed it,
Clear blue sky,
Can see thin high cloud to east,
dew on grass drying,
light breeze,
temp 5C.
-
Clear blue skies all day,
Even with the sun still felt cold,
No or very light wind,
Could see stars at 4.30pm,
Tonight cold 3c or 4c,
With heavy dew,
If it freezes will have very stiff lawn in the morning
-
Clear sky with very high thin cloud,
Light wind (moving small branches),
Heavy dew,
Temp 5C.
