  1. Perhaps some wishful thinking though from SM (I could be wrong)? After all he does live in... guess where... SE!!! :wallbash:

Comparing the 21Z radar with the 21Z frame on here, the event is panning out almost exactly as progged so far, therefore I think we have every reason to be optimistic about what will happen in the next few hours.

  2. Hi Pat, sorry mate cant reply to your pm as functionality is down right now, but I'm glad you've had a good dollop of the white stuff....Its going to be fascinating to see how the overnight pans out...You seem to be in the 'eye of the storm' right now...very heavy snow to your ESE and moderate snow to your north & west....I think you'll get an additional inch or two from the northern flank, but judging by the radar, the southern and eastern flanks will push north and then spiral away to the east and south (similar position to me in some senses) but snow nether the less!

I think that area currently moving up from the south is going to start pushing West soon (it is starting too), and the ppt. will rotate anticlockwise round the area of low pressure placing the heaviest snowfall over Gloucs/Oxon/Berks as per the NAE charts. They are currently looking pretty close to the actuality.

  3. SO hard to follow what is going on with this low to be honest....

So what we want is ppt to get north, so when it sinks south, we get hit! AH -- I was thinking, maybe we're slightly too far north but since it's progged to go south eventually then that's good. Probably.

Anyway I'm off to do a C3 Maths paper and hopefully by the time that's done things will have "hotted up" somewhat.

  4. Pretty poor it has to be said, sorry I don't think you see sight of the secondary feature and end up with just a few showers which might be heavy if your lucky enough to get one.

I have just seen the NAE 12Z(in the last 5 mins) and tbh it's a big down grade for snow totals in the south, I would be interested on hearing Ian's thoughts on this.

Essentially the wrap around goes approx 50 miles eastwards and then up to the north of the M4. Leaving Devon, Somerset and Dorset and Avon with precious little snow in comparision (still 4 or 5 cms maybe 2cms by the coast).

Very much a nowcast scenario though.

Poor? That's a hell of an upgrade for Gloucestershire! We will be positively snowed under if this comes off...

That has us under 20cm of snow!!!!

Not stopped snowing now since 1130am this morning.

  5. Thanks very much for the updates, Ian! Total respect to you in these fascinating conditions giving very difficult forecasts, all the best. If you have the time, I'd like to ask - what kind of spot totals are we looking at for Gloucestershire?

We have 5cm here already, and I've just been out to survey the roads. None of the local roads have been gritted, and the cars are moving very slowly on the main roads. I've got some pictures which I will upload here in a few minutes to give and idea of the conditions. The snow has eased off now but that heavy area of snow was over us for about 3 hours.
