Model Output Discussion - A cold start to Spring?
Noob replied to Cheshire Freeze's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Just a noob question but arent the charts we were seeing a week ago a response to the first ssw but waasnt there another one after that, could it be the second warming scuppered our chances and the models are playing catch up to that ? -

So much for the deep freeze 5 degress today and not a frost for 2 days....seems the weather will do the opposite to what any model says -

I agree i think it will be a lil chilly at best with maybe a flake here or there . The models are only as good as the people who program them and they all seem clueless like the met who always seems to say confidence is low lol.... My confidence is low that england will beat france when i really know we stand no chance with the defence we have . I have no confidence in models that change run by run and yet alot get hung up on charts that are a prediction not gospil -

Im not sure what too think now, charts say one thing, met updates seems too say the opposite other than cold is nailed on. They seem to be pro's at sitting on the fence and they are meant to be the experts or am i assuming too much ? -

On a more serious not and im flexing my wings a little as i been promoted too rookie (yay). As much as the charts are awesome all of us would love a winter wonderland the knock on effects to an already economic down turn , increasing energy costs and now nhs strikes on the 15th and 20th we could well find ourselves in a rather serious time . There are already many families and vulnerable people struggling to keep themselves warm and with energy companies that dont seem too understand the concept of customer service. iI have seen many posts of people without gas or electricity for up to 3 days simply because they are no able too contact their energy supplier . Not able to buy food and covid is still with us even a light dusting of snow can cause grid lock peoples lives may well be put at risk. its just a thought maybe the winter wonderland isnt what we really need , could be some very worrying times ahead. I hope you all can spare a thought for these people which may well include yourself and help where you can but keeping yourselves safe . Peace too all -

Model Output Discussion - moving into Winter

Im getting a little confused, i thought this was model output discussion moving into winter, from what limited knowledge i do know winter isnt even here yet. Yet ive read so many posts about 2010 comparison on a winter thats been and gone over 12 years ago. If someone says looks a bit like it that should be it not posts trying to disprove a simple comment made as the weather hasn'st even happened yet . Im trying too learn but it becomes so difficult when you have to troll through post just to gain bits of knowledge and today has been so frustrating. Argue about it in a pm after the event has happened . Forgive my rant im 49 and find it so childish , just enjoy whats being shown . Peace out too all -

Ah so it is all down to the wind how long does the wind have to be maintained for for a streamer to form , i mean the distance between the 2 i mentioned must be no more than 50 miles can the winds really be that different in my location compared to where the streamers formed ? Thanks for replying MB -

I must be the most noobest person here so i have a question for some of the more experienced. I see the streamer formed to my my north in great yarmouth and another to my south what stops them converging into a more organised mass off precip ? -

I feel your pain @Marie, lived in Brighton 40 years and many a year i craved for even 1 flake of snow , live in Lowestoft and right now blizzard conditions . Happy days -
Thankyou makes logical sense now , more of a chance of a cold spell if a majority of ensembles showing cold . I think moved from one bad spot Brighton to another although 2018 was niccee here but too cold for my old bones , My next questions is however , how can start data differ so much in say 6 hrs as per gfs or is that a case of too many runs and too much different data , im a mechanic by trade and too much info can lead to a head ache to get to the final outcome ?
-
Thanks for the replay Paul, so if thats the case how come models can show complete opposites at the same time frame ? Is there some human input involved or more a case of models see outcomes differently ?
-
As a complete noob ( yes we were all one once ) but do the models share each others data when coming up with their charts ?
