  1. Yes there are some stunning wintry charts for next week, I can't quite believe what i'm seeing........not even winter for another week. B)

I hate to be pedantic, but Winter DOES NOT START until the 21st of December. If you mean the Meteorological Winter then fine, but please be crystal clear. Everyone knows the difference, the term meteorological winter is used for statistical purposes only it doesn't change the fact that Winter begins on the 21st December even if the weather itself doesn't reflect the season.

Its such a pet hate! Grrrrrr

Edit: I seem to recall this happens every year lol

  2. The only people I feel even a little sympathy for are those in tall tower blocks. I've read a few people online report how they were really freaking out as the towers noticably swayed during the quake.

As for the rest of ya. ha. Its just a little quake, nothing to be worried about.

Then again, I'm in London, so I guess it was less strong. I wonder how much it was here though, compared to the epicentre.

Brit' Geo people now quote a quake of 5.3 Thats not bad.

    Calrissian: tired.

Well my strong knowledge of the local area is that there are only 5 tall tower blocks (1 is the old BT Exchange building the 2nd is the old victoria mill house which is partially converted into flats), and the other 3 are about 12+ flights high-housing, not sure about Hull, as for Lincoln its fairly low-rise. Sure glad I wasn't living in any of them!

Oh and lets not forget the Dock Tower itself, anyone confirm its earthquake proof? I hear the foundations itself were made to take some sway, probably regarding the wind. :)

  3. Is Hull destroyed then?

Light-hearted jokes, but I hear some people in Hull are still in temporary housing thanks to the floods that occurred last summer (lol i was in my own earthquake around the same time in greece). So though I am sure little or no damage has occured I think its not funny to jest 'at us forgotten people in the north'.

  4. Im so pleased you guys have felt it. 00.59 and it woke us all up. 8 month old Harry started crying. The house really shook!! I have already reported it to Sky News and BBc News.

Scared the hell out of us all. You could hear the brickwork moving

And yeah the brickwork, that was scared as hell. I gotta little damage outside to my porch!

And the BBC24 news presenters referred to Hull as in Humberside (which was abolished back in 1996, that really Tutses me off), funny really it clearly said lincolnshire on the screen, and Hull is actually in the East Riding of Yorkshire lol

Lol, ok so we didn't get snow this winter...but :D

  5. My god, was that an earthquake? Tossed me off the sofa. The whole house shook. Anyone know where the epicentre was?

I dunno about the epicentre, but i think it was here in Grimsby. I leave in a first floor flat and the house shock like crazy, my last earthquake was in Kavos, Greece last year and that was 5.7 on the richter scale, this 'felt' much the same, though nothing was falling off shelves or anything! So with my lack of knowledge i would say it was 5.0 easy. It must have last 20 seconds easily.

Relived it was an earthquake actually cos 3miles away there is loads of chemical factories. Felt like an explosion, no word of a lie!

    W.O.W.

  6. Overnight very cold, widespread icy and in the last 30 mins it has started snowing. Only fine snow here at the minute ahead of whats left of the main band which should arrive in the next hour. Settling readily.

Not really what I would post on the MetOffice as 'Heavy Snow' lol who they trying to kid :)

  7. Sunday Temp: Car Thermo 33.5c at 14:45.

Monday Temp: Car Thermo 21.0c at 00:45, and confirmed at same temperature on a local news centre building.

    Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

It's been a scorching, expectionally warm and muggy.

  8. afternoon every1, just come online and n-w and metcheck tell me the temp here in grimsby (by the sea!!!) is currently -5, so that means it hasn't raised since by first report early this morning around 3. this is truely colder air and am very surprised by this!

  9. morning every1, travelling back from middlesbrough to grimsby my car thermo recorded these temps in these locations, which rounds up to the nearest .5.

as i travelled further south the temps dipped a couple of degrees below the bbc's forecasted temps on a number of occasions, yes for the town/cities which is frankly to be expected, given the bbc's record. hope these extra cold temps hold off that breakdown well into the weekend, nice if the easterly actually won the fight for a change! i can but dream

    mboro: -0.5

    thirsk: -1.5

    york: -2.5

    kexby: -3.0

    south cove: -5.0

    humber bridge: -4.0

    melton ross: -4.5

    kirmington: -4.5

    keelby: -5.5

    grimsby: -5.0

lots of rolling fog in many locations even here by the coast and over the bridge which hopefully will bring down SSTs in the north sea. looking good. :)

  10. just driven back from middlesbrough home to grimsby, coldest my car thermo got was -5 on the a19 near the north york moors, parked up my car at -2 here in grimsby. it makes a change to see the temp here joining the rest of the uk, considering grimsby is right on the coast :-)
