  1. CET for 28th 6.4 C. With mild temps last night and today this could be very close! EDIT: Remaining at 7.8 C to the 28th.
  2. Pershore minimum temp last night -3 C. That will not help beating the February record.
  3. The very mild February also contributing to a notable position for the winter season in the CET series. December 2023 to February 2024 may well enter a top five position in the mildest winters since 1659. Top ten ranked winters for CET so far are: 2016 6.8 1869 6.7 1834 6.6 2007 6.5 1989 6.5 1975 6.4 1686 6.3 1796 6.2 2020 6.2 1935 6.1 (together with 1990, 2014, 1734). If February 2024 finishes on 8.0 and beats the February record, 2024 will land up joint third with 1834 at 6.6 (rounded from 6.56). Another remarkable result in the trend for mild winters for the CET series this century.
  4. In the record breaking heatwave of July 2019 when the record temperature of 38.7C was achieved on 25th July, there were over 8,000 heat related deaths. That is a major incident in mortality and obviously cannot be ignored. If the current heatwave is sustained over a longer period of time and the UK record is challenged, expect incidence of heat related deaths to be even higher. I agree extreme weather events are very interesting, and any new records will obviously grab anyone's attention. But the danger to human life cannot be ignored either. It's a case of being a little bit careful of what you wish for.
  5. Some of the output at the moment is a bit ridiculous. 52C does not 'officially' happen in places like Riyadh, but it does. There would have to be something serious going on if SW France were to match the temperatures experienced in Saudi Arabia.
  6. Brief cloudy spell this morning has given way to warm sunshine. Temperature climbing steadily. Just to emphasise the very dry conditions, here are a couple of photos of my lawn which is not only very dry and cracked but is looking just a bit dead:
  7. Very much how my lawn looks here just east of Cambridge. Also very large cracks in the ground, I suppose a reflection of the mix of chalk and clay soil (with the bit of flint thrown in) we have here. Another brilliant day here today. I was trimming back the hedges mid-morning and although the air temperature was ok the sun was hot. A reminder that solar radiation this time of year is strong.
  8. Greetings everyone! Completely agree with the summary posted for East Anglia. Overall a very pleasant month, and as commented a bit unusual for it to be so sunny and dry but only a bit above the average in terms of temperatures. I remember June 1976 very well, having to sit 'O' levels during that month. That wasn't much fun, I think overall I prefer June 2022!
