  1. This is exactly the sort of chart that would indeed produce the fabled Thames Streamer. Looks pretty dry at times and I would have expected much lower uppers to our East, but none the less huge potential for most of us there, particularly in the East and South initially at least.
  2. Yes and lets make the most of it, not often that we get such upgrades on all of the big 3 models, just about full agreement now.
  3. Well, well, well....GFS finally comes on board shouting and screaming on its 06z run, of all runs....how embarrassing.
  4. SOZ just noticed chart already up there, although I would happily post it all day if it helped it in some magical way to verify.
  5. Can I post an ECM D10 chart? Cant believe the models are still playing around with this Easterly scenario, mmmmm We are back in expect the unexpected territory. Whats happened to TEITS, not looked on the model thread this PM?
  6. In spite of us being a very small Island in a big warm sea, AND the gulf stream of course, AND we should lower our expectations in lowland locations particularly in the Southern half.....BUT SURELY at our latitude we are due more than 2 days of Winter in 3 YEARS!
  7. Cos as lovely as it looks, it ain't the same abroad, I want my inch of snow here in my garden so that I can build my 10 inch snowman and throw a snowball or two, even if it only lasts for 24 hours..
  8. Best news tonight is that ECM was not an outlier, some ensemble members in fact are looking even colder past day 10. Surely we must be due an easterly after all this time waiting...
  9. A short lived NWly and nothing more than a few coastal wintry showers South of Scotland is a worry, you know the good old wishbone effect for 24 hours and its all over. Hopefully it will be a lot better than that.
  10. Indeed, heres a few pics from Southern Italy and Sicily, that I have already posted, propper dumping and more to come, anyone got anything from Greece? Hopefully it will be our turn later next week!
  11. Found there pics from Italy, its not just Greece and Turkey thats getting the big freeze... Headlines from over there read "Snow and Ice emergency, blizzards in central and Southern Italy including Sicily down to sea level". Maybe our turn later next week. The last chart shows snow depths expected in next 7 days...BLUE is rain.
  12. Thats true, the GFS started us off then ECM jumped on board for one run and then off again on its next run to show this 36hr NWly, could still upgrade a bit and there should be some decent disturbances in that flow of very cold uppers.
  13. So no snow reports from Ye Olde Men Of Kent then?
  14. Haha, do you mean this sort of post by any chance Ben? "What do you mean with this Winter is over nonsense? Its only early January, it can still snow in this country in January, February, March, April, May and has snowed many times even in June! Anyway we have already had some very cold nights and widespread frosts, look where we were this time last year. We are only a small insignificant dot of an Island in a huge, massive warm sea, you need to lower your expectations." Hehehehe
  15. Outskirts Athens end last week. This weeks lot of snow will be round two...or three for this Winter!
  16. Just booked a flight to Crete to go Skying on the beach!
  17. I would be happy with a 3-5 day cold spell with a few Wintry showers around, even a little settling snow, but we are not even getting one of these cold snaps, and I don't just mean a frost, in 3/4 years now.
  18. Exactly, the blocks set up but in all the wrong places. I was born in February and was told by various people that it was always very cold with ice and some snow about around the time of my birthday, I mean I knew about 1962/63 but every year, cold? So anyway I looked right through the historic charts for February 1960-1970 and found that every single year apart from one (which looked a bit like recent UK winters think it may have been 1961) had some sort of Northern blocking for the UK turn up at some point in February, and lots of Greenland highs. Maybe I will get round to posting the charts sometime. It just seems that something changed after 1970 when blocking starts to turn up more and more to our South and over Europe generally and Winters in the UK and Western Europe generally become more zonal.
  19. That is of course the predominant feature of most of our winters, Azorslug, Euroslug, Azorslug, Euroslug....Bartlett! And then its Springtime, all change! Tonights Fax charts, no mistakes this time, very cold air hits Italy and Greece.
  20. Yes, a covering of white particularly over the Christmas period would be just right, some on here would love weeks of blizzards of course and I admit that I like some extreme weather, I think that on the whole though that many would change their minds if we did get a repeat 1947 or 1963. I guess that its the fun of it, you know spotting some extreme weather event out past 3 days and it coming into the reliable, many times I have said to myself stick to the UKMO and FAX charts so 6 days but you always want to see more. I remember the old weather for the week ahead forecasts in the 80's, they covered the week from Sunday and rarely could forecast snow accurately a week out, but I wanted to know what it was going to be like the week after that even though it was going to be complete la la land.
  21. Yes but the problem around this way is that by March any snow that falls overnight is gone by mid morning, the sun seems pretty strong from about mid/late Feb. If we had a very cold February though, then the entrenched cold can carry on well into March, certainly towards mid month and snow events can be exceptionally good, battleground set ups spring to mind.
  22. So annoying! The wave that formed has really pepped up PPN as the front ground to a halt, at times the rain band seems to have actually moved back North. Ideal for a bit of evap cooling I would have thought but alas, temps/DPs remain too high for even a flake or two, all rain here still.
  23. Well its absolutely chucking it down here, the front has virtually drawn to a halt on the radar, turned really cold too. BUT its all rain, people should be seeing a few flakes by now mixed in on this sort of set up on the back edge, but its just not happening.....
  24. Started raining here about half hour ago....Can we squeeze a flake or two out this evening on the highest ground I wonder before it all slowly clears away South?
