mountain shadow First time?

Not even sleet here...just rain and rain despite every forecast saying it's snow

The British Isles taught me one thing: if the ground is dry during winter, you should be grateful.

Some people: I'd like to have snow on the ground. Can it be like a meter deep so kids could do sledging and build snowman? Also that some people: I don't want the snow to be that thick on the road, how can I drive to work in such condition... Got to admit snow is beautiful but it's really annoying if you really think about it...

There's a few snow flakes up north, though I won't call it snowing because by few, I mean below ten flakes. And it's just cloudy here...

Can I know why the Cheshire Gap is so important to the snow event? Sorry I am a newbie to weather
