Afternoon all, Its a lovely day here with NO cloud in sight , and can't really anticipate anything for today here.
The next few days could result in something so will have to wait and see
-
Just had a quick look at the 5 minute rain radar and was wondering about what looks like a large cell giving quite a bit of rain just off the south hams area of Devon.
Not electrified by the looks of things but alot of rain
-
Is this a good time to say its lovely and sunny down here with just the odd Cu popping up here and there???
-
Yeah they could have done with spending more time on it 3 days just isnt enough.
Yes I know what you mean. They were down here a couple of years ago on a weeks special and went out on air live. A large and relatively untouched mosiac floor was found in a field nr a hamlet called Dinnington (Ilminster) and was really good. Unfortunatly we couldnt go near it because of the 'live on air' aspect of it, but nevertheless it was fab.
Wonder what other unearthed treasures lie under the surfaces??

Devon: Plan to develop Dunkeswell Racing Circuit affecting the Blackdown Hills AONB. Partly approved but full planning decision awaited.
For anyone who is interested, this area is earmarked to become a huge Formula 3 racing curcuit complete with large shops/restaurant.
Nigel Mansell has bought the area and is planning the transformation.
But the locals reckon the roads around the area will become a race track for 'boyracers'.

OK, well I'm the first to post, so here it goes.
Some flooding from the 2nd December -
-
Just adding a couple more
-
Here are some of mine from the November floods on the Levels
This ones even complete with the levels monster!!
-
How about this sunset in Somerset?
Or the floodwater running down the lane?
Or a nice Autumn day in Devon?
-
Could have been some very localised strong updraughts that slightly exarcebated an otherwise 'weak' cell.
BTW - Are u sure the sound wasn't somebody closing their garage door\industrial noises, etc?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Im very sure it was a weak crackling of thunder, I was outside and it was one of those distant crackles right above me, seemed way up in the clouds, but I'm sure it was
There wasn't any sferic for the shower down here, but looking on metoffice radar there was a small patch of showers.
-
Moderate rain been falling for about half an hour with very grey skies towards the W/SW
One small rumble of thunder heard, seemed to be way up in the clouds above me and just crackled for a bit then stopped.
No lightning visable, but rain slowing off now
Unusal, because thunder wasn't forcast today, but 100% sure it was!
No more thunder has been heard since

Bit late posting this but here we go!
I was at home until 3:00pm yesterday afternoon, but there was no evidence of any storms until then.
Driving to work in Taunton (10miles) the sky became very unstable with plenty of 'cotton wool' underbelly on the dark clouds out towards the south west (ac str).
By the time I got to work distant lightning was visable, but no rain as yet.
Being a delivery driver around Devon and Somerset I got a ringside seat on all the action!
At about 4:00pm the storm had rolled in over Taunton with C-C lightning every minute or so
Rain wasn't particulaly heavy at this point, but a moderate drizzle
Driving up Bridgwater on the M5, lightning became very frequent with purple streaks across the sky, rain very very heavy, M5 traffic crawling at about 30mph!!
Got to Bridgwater and wind very gusty. leaves and twigs blowing into the sky and still with frequent lightning (but not much C-G lightning)
Main storm front moving NE so brighter conditions could be seen in behind.
Storm lasted about 2 hrs in the West Somerset area
Storm lasted about 3 hrs in the South Somerset area
Not much rain occured in the Minehead area of Somerset, but thunder heard for about 2 hrs with very unstable cloud mass
Intresting wind occured in the Bridgwater area, very very gusty with trees swaying quite violently with leaves and twigs flying up into the air??
NO photos Im afraid, being a delivery driver its a bit difficult!!
Anymore info? let me know and I will try my best!

showers seem to be moving east quite quickly now, with plenty of blue sky in behind
Think the excitement has now gone!!
-
clouds breaking up at the moment, lots of blue sky, but perhaps another anvil out on the horizon? Hope so!!
-
From one shower to another, this anvil is looking good, and its coming this way!!
In the last few minutes the tower is just exploding
This Storm Cloud is really taking shape now, I'm trying to get a good photo, not great when I only have a mobile with a 1.5 mpixel camera on it!!
Here it comes, wind died off, and is very still,
-

Yet another thunderstorm close to Ilimnster at the moment.
Last storm finished at about 06.30 this morning, and now a new storm has started again!
Regular claps of thunder, interference on the TV with reception being lost for about 10 minutes
-
didn't get much sleep though, absoluly knackered together with a cold and hayfever in one!
Got an excellent clip of a close lightning strike and loud thunder on my mobile camera, very lucky to get it and quality ain't too bad either, will post in the near future
