WOW what a day. I swear i drove around most of the south coast haha. Saw 2 tornadoes and plenty of funnel clouds and some amazing cloud motion. Pics + video will be up soon.

Well id say they are probably between 30-35,000ft at a rough guess. High based, with positively charged tops id imagine.

Hi Tim. I have been watching the MCS for the last 20 mins and i can confirm rotation in some of the stronger cells. I think whats happening is there is a Meso Low forming. This can be quite common with strong MCS's.

This is insane. The storms are still quite a ways of from Brighton/South coast and i can see lightning reflecting of the troposphere from my location in Guildford, surrey. If these storms maintain strength, its going to be nuts.

Storms also developing on the north side of the MCS.

Me thinks is going to be a noisy night on the south and south east coast. SE is going to get ripped a new one me thinks lol.

Some activity trying to build in the south towards Isle of Wight and some isolated activity over surrey and Hampshire.

Mate i fully agree with you. I stopped listening to the met office years ago. I now do my own forecasting. I'm sick and tired of the bulls**t they keep putting out. But at the same time is also not all their fault, as the government is to tight as*ed to spend the money on getting REAL forecasting equipment like Doppler and similar computer systems to the NWS in the USA. They will eventually realize that they are going to have to invest millions into forecasting for this country as also the weather is changing.

I agree. Its seems to be turning in to a Morning event. I will be suprised if any more storms form tomorrow after this MCS blows through. The only thing that points to me thinking more storms, is that all the rain dumped is just going to add fuel (ie evapotranspiration) to any storms that can develop tomorrow in the south.

well i think there are a few scenarios as to what would happen. 1. If a tornado outbreak of that magnitude was to occur in the UK again i think it would be shear chaos across the country as most people in this country don't have a real understanding of how dangerous tornadoes are unless they have watched programs like Storm Chasers or have the knowledge of weather like most of us here on the forum. So the phone networks would be jammed with calls, the emergency services would be maxed out, and roads would come to a stand still. So in this scenario i think many of us wouldn't even be able to get online, let alone have power supply to do it. (Id be out tracking the storms). 2. The UK government is prepared for such an event (HIGHLY unlikely) and would have back up power resources and communications so the UK could continue as normal and the Forum would go nuts (though id be out chasing) . and finally 3. It happens in like 10 years time when the communications networks are much more advanced, the Met Office have much more advanced systems and American style Doppler radars across the UK, and the British public are much more informed to the hazards of tornadoes. In this case there wouldn't be much of a problem and we would all be in the Forum chatting away or out chasing. That's my take on it. DITTO! and may i add probably doing about 120mph down the M1 haha

Hey paul. No im not working tomorrow. It seems storm trackers cant aquire work in this country haha, so no im not working. Yeah would love to tag alone. Got some things to do in the day though to send to immigration in london, but after that im free. So i should be free by 2pm ish if thats ok.
