  1. Thanks Jo! On BBC website as well. Absolutely fantastic work by the engineers and the public, who on the whole, have been patient and good humoured. Must concentrate on getting it re-opened for HGVs as well (Feb?), once that happens plenty of time to find out if anything could have been done better. Personally I doubt it given the new crossing will be open next Dec. when a full assessment of the whole bridge can take place.
  2. Have you a link? Brilliant news if true and a great relief to commuters. Hats off to the Engineers who have worked during some pretty foul conditions. Don't care what they get paid, worth double! Edit: Windy Wilson is usually spot on https://www.facebook.com/windywilson.weather.roads Windy Wilson Weather and Road Reports 7 mins · BREAKING NEWS JUST IN - FORTH ROAD BRIDGE Windy says the FORTH ROAD BRIDGE is to re-open to all vehicles EXCEPT HGV'S tomorrow, Wednesday the 23rd of December FORTH ROAD BRIDGE TO RE-OPEN TOMORROW - WEDNESDAY 23rd OF DECEMEBR - TO ALL BUT HGV'S
  3. That's a cracking shot from Rosehearty, PM! My best efforts - trying to dodge the rain showers, light pollution and moonlit clouds. First one from the front door.
  4. Weather poor but managed a couple of snaps that may be OK. Will upload later today. Off for some kip!
  5. Geomag storm just kicked off, Kp at 6, clear sky . . . and it's daylight! Typical!
  6. Aye, some nice pics from Shetland doing the rounds on FB today. Fife and most of Central Scotland rained out. Still dreich the noo!
  7. Real mix today, some blue sky and bright sunshine one minute then black clouds with heavy showers, some with hail. Getting very overcast again as I type.
  8. Fife getting pretty desperate, the M90 has now been closed at Glenfarg due to flooding.
  9. Visually it's a dogs breakfast at the moment with no clear division between anything quoted and reply. OK, there is a couple of lines but that's it. Also, my favourites marker apears to have gone awol (now leading to a peculiar error page) so presumably will have to be updated. Haven't tried tablet yet as I'm still hiding behind the sofa from all the white splodge. Far too hard on older eyes. Hopefully it will improve once the updates are complete.
  10. Stopped snowing now and the sun is breaking through. Got to love Scotland's weather.
  11. Was wet sleet in Thornton, Glenrothes an hour ago, stopped suddenly for 15 mins or so, now belting down with snow and laying. 'Lecky blanket and duvet sounds good for the afternoon!
  12. Back home. Taken at Gardenstown Aberdeenshire, 7th. Nov. 2015. Was a bit more active later on than in the first pic I posted.
  13. There are mosquitoes, there are gnats (sometimes spelt Nats) and then there are midgies. I saw the documentary and it was fascinating if somewhat full of grue ( grueful or gruesome , not sure, whatever). What I do know is that they are ' horrible wee blighters and if the conditions are right the will eat anyone alive. Sprays, garlic and Skin So Soft are all but useless. The only thing that works is a fine voile full head and face net, thick jeans ( chest waders are even better!) gloves and full arm covering. Any exposed skin will be voraciously attacked. They will dive bomb, crawl and burrow through just about anything else. Sometimes it's best to avoid the hills between late June and the end of September. Anyone who comes up with an effective deterrent will make a fortune, probably from me!
  14. Wet and cloudy here (Gardenstown, Aberdeenshire) last night so missed out. Think any more pics will have to wait 'till we get back home as I'm having probs with yuckbucket. Maybe get another chance of arorae if the latest CME hits before Saturday.
  15. A faint glow again tonight. Still trying to work out how to post pics as I can't FTP to my own site (don't have the access code with me ). Might have to use yuckbucket! Edit: from last night.
  16. Yep, up at Gordenstown Aberdeenshire, for a week. Saw faint aurora to the north over the sea. Turned cloudy and blowing through rain just now but will have another peek out before bed. On tablet at the moment, got some pics about 8.00 pm, not great, will try and post tomorrow if I can get the lappy connected to the WiFi here.
  17. Looks like more auroae could be on for tonight. Typically, Fife is totally overcast foggy and wet!
  18. Dreech and misty in Glenrothes. 4C, Awful day! Going to put the heating on
  19. Still fogged out here. Hope you manage some pics NorternLights!
  20. As a gold panner of many years I know Kildonan quite well. Beautiful part with a sad history. On topic, foggy here this morning after a superb day yesterday. Possible aurora forecast for tonight if it's clear
  21. Thanks Ravelin, that really cheered me up lol!
  22. Does anyone have a better word than "dreich", for today's weather?
  23. Tonight's (08 Oct. 2015) aurora, approx 10.30 pm Not as good as previous night but still showed for a wee while. Taken from East Lomond Hill, Fife. Spot the small meteor in the middle pic!
  24. Bz has just gone South again. Not dark enough to see any aurora yet but looks promising for later. Unusually we have a good clear sky tonight as well.
