Back in from taking the dog out on his bedtime walk. Sky clear to the horizon from NW-N-NE. No sign of aurora even after getting dark adapted. Solarham forecast looks better for tomorrow.
Remember both these comets, pre internet and pre digi photography. Some great pics have been uploaded to the web since. Quick Google should pick some up.
Same here, hammering down. Managed to walk dog at the beach in bright sunshine but really dire now. About to settle down and watch the rugby in a bit. Heating on lol.
Rain on frozen ground and paths. Not a good combination. Ice everywhere, had to cut short the dog walk tonight. He doesn't seem too bothered, currently snoring in the armchair.
About 1cm snow at the moment. Dog awake at stupid o'clock. He's now outside rolling in it and I can't get him back in. Strong wind, not a day for jammies and wellies. Leaving the dog to it, got kettle on!
Will be a lot of drifting higher up and away from the coast. Stay safe and keep warm everyone!
New Zealand would be nice lol.
Mostly bright today, temp in car reading +1.5C. A few white flakes now and again, settling on frozen ground. Breezy but not too bad, in all a pleasant winter's day. Dog a bit hyper in the brief snow showers.
A kitchen sink morning! Bright sun, brilliant double rainbow, rain, hail, sleet and even a clap of thunder as I was washing the dog down. Who says this December is boring?
Yep, I really meant warm as in moderate rather than hot as in S. Spain. Basically temperate rather that extreme due to Gulf Stream effect. Similarly in winter, no real (-40C) outliers.
Dipping a toe into very deep and maybe piranha infested waters here so please go easy.
Many years ago at school in Geog I was taught that the British Isles lay in the path of the Gulf Stream producing on average, warm summers with reasonable rainfall and cool wet winters. Sometimes we had a heatwave thanks to southerlies from Africa etc. and sometimes we had a northerly or easterly cold spell from the Arctic or Siberia.
Forecasting methods and models have improved dramatically over the last 50 odd years or so but fundamentally has anything really changed that much?
Thanks in advance, but I would prefer not to enter the minefield of climate change unless I have to!
Kp 5, Bz negative and tadah! We have low cloud and misty grot.
Anyone got a clear view?
Edit: Auroral oval view line looks to be as far south as N. Ireland, Cumbria and Newcastle.
