The GFS 06z run does show that a couple of snow showers could come through the Cheshire gap tonight. If so, will provide a nice dusting that will stay around most of the week

Yes an interesting tweet from a professional.
Only thing I can think is happening is the level at between ground and 5000 feet holds the zero iso therm line at 0, because at 5000 feet (850hpa level) it reaches 1 in bham by 2pm on the models
That makes sense. Snow cover may help too

Just seen Chris Fawkes tweet with Arpege showing. Keeps Birmingham with snow and the rain line doesn’t get to us today. We must be right on the boundary

Hammering down now in Brum
Yeh really coming down hard in Harborne. Think there must be 6-7cm fallen

Yep 18z GFS keeps tomorrow further north- above 0c 850 temps get up to Manchester

Great snowfall here in Harborne. Really piling up and still coming down heavy!

Fax charts bring northern extent of tomorrow’s front to about Birmingham. Interesting

Exactly, I know this winter its been unusual seeing London receive a dumping in December and ourselves were left cold and dry but they have waited many years for a significant snow event (5cm +). We've not had to endure that long a gap.
Even looking north, quite a few times you'll pop into to the Northwest regional thread and see them reporting rain and sleet only for it to fall as snow further inland in the Midlands.
Totally agree with that. Let’s see what happens over the next few days

I think were actually a bit spoilt at times the evidence is there. The MO snow days chart show Birmingham does alright at the very least.
I have to agree with you. Birmingham has generally been quite snowy over the years. I think memories are short and recently missing out on events has clouded memories

Thats true! Although 2011 to 2019 didnt bring a great deal of joy bar the odd few days with a bit of snowfall. I'm reasonably confident there's been one or two winters here without a single flake falling.
I think you are forgetting January 2013, March 2013 and the 2017-18 winter

To my eye, there looks like a potential snow event on Thursday night/Friday as that low dives and interacts with that cold air to the east. Of course it is subject to change

Sleeting in Harborne. Impressive for early May

April CET to be lower than March’s CET? Has this ever happened before?

Its definitely been one of the best of the last 10/11 years! I'd say since 2010/11 its been pretty much dross winter after winter, with the odd snow event here and there, but theres been a lot of snowfall since the end of december
I’m surprised you say that. I thought 2012-13 was a really good winter with snowfalls in Jan, Feb and March. January and March especially were really good.
and then the 2017-18 winter was really good too.
Overall, I think this has been a good winter with potentially more to come

Cannot understand the appeal of mild winter weather myself. It’s boring both meteorologically and in terms of conditions at the surface, not even warm, and normally accompanied by wind and rain which makes it feel colder anyway and unpleasant. It’s just crap and an utter nuisance. Give me more cold weather until we get to the warmer months where we can get proper warmth without wind and rain (high single figures to teens just isn’t warm and has no interest to me).
I especially cannot understand when cold weather lovers wish wintry weather away. There’s no logic to it. The window for proper wintry weather is small and finite, and you never know when you’ll see it next. Whereas the window for milder weather is infinite.
This has been a great winter, so far. There’s still a good few weeks left until spring proper and then guaranteed 8 months of milder, snowless weather at least.
This is spot on. It happens every year that when you get into February, people are like winter’s done but I have found that March is far more wintry than December. Still a lot of potential for snow over the next 6-7 weeks
On April 16 2016, I woke up to a small covering of snow for example. So there is still lots of potential

Very heavy snow shower. Short and sharp. A dusting everywhere

This has potential to be another March 12 2006 event. The front stalled about 20-25 miles west of here where they had big snowfalls and Birmingham nothing

Yes I totally agree. Should just appreciate that we’ve had falling snow and small coverings in this cold spell given the rubbish we had in the last 2 winters.

If it could continue to shift a bit further north, that would be great
Bit disappointed not to have caught a streamer but not too downbeat as I feared I wouldn’t see anything at all from this event. Nice to see others getting a good dollop of snow!
You may get lucky later as I think it will only shift north today

Wind direction change again. Stream looks like going to hit North of Birmingham- Aldridge, Stafford etc

Snowing quite moderately at the moment. Some good looking showers coming this way

Just over an inch has fallen here in Harborne. Looks like more to come
