  1. Wales probably has a greater percentage of its area snow-covered at any one time, but England more of its population.
  2. One thing I noticed the other night was just how many more stars are visible now than in June. Even with the streetlights turned off at midnight it's difficult to see naked-eye down to 4th magnitude near the solstice, now I can get down to 5th. And the Milky Way through Cygnus is much clearer, with the dark rift easily seen.
  3. Finally I'm out. Hope I don't owe any rent, I have been here since August 2011. And it was one plucky little cell that broke the Shrewsbury shield after all those multicellular couldn't'. Hope everyone else is out soon
  4. It was unreal wasn' t it, one isolated cell hits us direct after all those organised storms missed! Was really windy as well when the storm passed overhead, and that rain came out of nowhere- it literally went from sun to thunder, lightning and a downpour in an instant.
  5. There was even some lightning, it lasted less than half an hour but was good while it did. Had to go to Stoke not long after and sort of followed the cell up the A53, it seemed to end up east of Market Drayton.
  6. Thunder and pelting rain now, from nowhere! Finally a proper hit.
  7. Can hear thunder rumbling in the mass of cloud to the SW
  8. Got heavier here too, but it's just boring old rain...
  9. A few spots of rain now, but certainly not hail or thunder- why is it always down round Bridgnorth that gets it these days??
  10. Hasn't been a drop here today, it's been a sunny day and is pretty clear now.
  11. Very bright shooting star about 10 mins ago, seen to the north of Ursa Major but coming from the direction of Perseus. Moon shouldn't interfere too much this year, so hopefully a decent show.
  12. 29.5- almost made it! Would surely have done if that cloud hadn't taken till 2pm to clear- hottest August day since 2003.
  13. Still mostly cloudy, it's August so must be time for SE-only heat waves! Satellite confirms this well, the Severn-Wash line the boundary again.
  14. 7/10. Better than July 2005 but not as good as July 1999. (Nowhere near 2006 or 1983). A good 2-week hot spell that just disappointed in not reaching 30C (though there were 10 days above 25). Not very good for thunder either, only 2 days with only overhead, briefly on Monday 29th. With all the rain since the 22nd it might even end up wetter than average, but at least it has not suffered a long sunless spell- the main reason it beats 2005.
  15. Didn't stop raining from before 8am till 4pm here, and it wasn't light either. A 2012/2008/2007 throwback day!
  16. Hold on, was that.. Yes it was. A deluge and, yes, A CRACK OF THUNDER IN SHREWSBURY!AND ANOTHER!
  17. Fairly light shower here, still no thunder.... If we're not going to get a storm can we have the settled weather back please?
  18. Well it rained hard for all of 2 minutes, not a single rumble. I remember the days when rain would suddenly intensify and you'd get a crash and flash at the same time...
  19. Has gone black in last 5 minutes and is trying to rain, but still can't hear anything
  20. Nope, that's too far east. No thunder in it anyway
  21. Everyone in Shrewsbury is still very much in. Nothing overhead since August 2011
  22. No rain at all today, no thunder, no lightning, nothing but rain last night, this area is an absolute storm desert! Even Cheshire and Wrexham are getting something today!
  23. Storms to the west (looks grey over there), east (can see the top of one), south, north- what's wrong with here?
  24. There weren't any storms here in 2010, only a couple of small ones in 2008. June 19th 2005 was the last big one.
  25. It's ridiculous, that stuff over mid Wales is just dying at the Shropshire border, and kicking off again over Staffs. Yet the North Wales stuff is keeping going in Cheshire, after crossing much higher mountains.
