  1. Anyone any idea what time sheffield may see so snow arrive. Thanks
  2. Iremember in feb 1978 going to school in lashings of rain and wind and the forecast was basiclly windy , mild and rainy.Came home from school and after the news i think it was Jack Scott doing the forecast and his first comment was"forget everything in the atlantic".The forecast then showed freezing easterlies coming in "which they did" and winter arrived with bitter weather and snow.
  3. Cloudy cold and miserable here.Anyone noticed that Rob M has been kept off the bbc forecasts.Shame really he is the ultimate rampmeister
  4. Pathetic really. The meto could be left with a load of egg on there boats.
  5. Well the degree of uncertainty shows for me there is a chance of a change regarding the lows and there track.Slight downgrade there.
  6. You need to be really looking at the potential to be honest.Nothing even the really cold weather is nailed on .
  7. Iwoudnt take to much notice of those charts.Looking for the ecm to build up the pressure rise to the north ang get the jet further south. Not sure if it will show this in the 240 hrs range.
  8. Il punt at 3.2,merry xmas and a happy "freezing" new year. B)
  9. Dont be dragged in to this even larger teapot debate. All it is ,is a way of trying to make people look stupid when they give an honest opinion about how they see things panning out.Lets be honest if it was that easy some of the so called pros on here would be making a mint.Hm.
  10. Hmm not just me then. Ive also noticed that when a good cold spell is on the way i seem more upbeat regarding getting out of bed for work ete.Strange really.
  11. Got to thinking the other day after looking at some of the posts on here that maybe some people moods are set by the weather outlook and models.Over the years i have found myself chasing tv forecasts, radio ones when at work and buying newspapers which have charts in ete.I also think that im not alone in staying up all night when a snow event is forecast and checking my outside light for the first few flakes. To be honest i dont like working in the cold and snow and for me i enjoy the build up looking at the charts ete.I also have records going back to 1970 which include all the daily weather up to the current time.My family think im slightly strange and maybe they are right but i think once you have the bug then thats it.
  12. Yes during the last ice age. Maybe also in 1947 and 1962-63.
  13. Well i cant remember a winter so far only giving a couple of hours of lying snow on one day. .Up to now thats the total for my area in sheffield .
  14. 78-79 were very severe in there cold ,snow and how long they lasted.80-81 were bad and 87 was severe but not a long spell altho day time records were broke and snow depths were good. For me 78-79 were the best.
  15. Have to agree there and some of the headlines just before Thursdays "big freeze" do nothing to dispell this theory.I like you remember severe spells esp in the late 70s but people just got on with things.Maybe one day people may get a proper jolt to the system but the down side is the uk would come to a standstill.
  16. C02 emissions have been prevalent over the last million years to a certain degree,ie volcanic activity. The last twenty years have seen temps world wide increase massivly and given the short time scale surly there can be only one reason.
  17. In the current climate i would say no.To be honest getting a decent fall of snow in the uk is hard enough.
  18. Met office release figs Thursday which will show last year was the second wamest ever globaly. Also in the last 15 years ten of the warmest have come in that time.BBC 7-00pm today.Coincedence.
  19. Yes for me were the floods were quite shiocking living near to Attercliffe. The heat in april was also a suprise as was the terrible summer with winter type synoptics.Strange year really.
  20. Merry xmas. B) B) Oh just to see a snowflake. Only joking IB.For me ill go for an average jan temp wise with some stormy conditions and quite wet.Feb hopefully brings something colder and more wintry but again i suspect a dry cool month could be on the cards. As for march i think it could be our best winter month regarding cold and snowy conditions.Just a hunch but its probably as good as gfs.Ok ill get me coat. .Merry Xmas to everyone and a freezing new year.
