  1. You're gonna be 26, and you've never had a birthday party?! Not even when you were young?
  2. A wild guess as always, I am expecting a cool month with a CET of 16.8C.
  3. So BBC, where's this rain we're due today? It looks to be stalling and fizzling out over the west on the radar.
  4. Relative humidity is defined as the ratio of water vapour content to the water vapour capacity of the air at a given temperature. When the realtive humidity is 100%, the air is 'holding' all the vapour that it can at a given temperature. Under these conditions the air is termed saturated, because no more vapour can evaporate into the air. Now, sweating produces cooling because the high velocity (high temperature) molecules have sufficient energy to break free from the surface and evaporate, causing the average speed of the remaining molecules to decrease, and these lower speeds correspond to lower temperatures. Hence in high humidity conidtions, sweat cannot evaporate and clings to ths skin and it feels warmer than it otherwise would in lower humidity conidtions.
  5. So what happened to last night's storms in Dorset? We were down in Poole for a short break and stayed an extra night in hope of seeing some thunderstorms, in light of the promising forecast. But apart from some distant lightning over the channel at around 23.30, nothing materialised. Not even any rain.
  6. Who broke the Met Office site?! Or is it just my computer that won't open the page? I've been desperately trying to view the radar sequence for this afternoon, as we had an exceptionally heavy rainstorm at around 2pm this afternoon here in Oxford, accompanied by some thunder and lightning. Roads became rivers for a while. Anyone know where I can find a radar animation for this afternoon to track the storm that passed over?
  7. Heard some distant rumbles of thunder between 4.40 and 6.30 here in Oxford. Not much of a thunderstorm event, and it doesn't look like there's any more due today as the risk region seems to have shifted northeast on Ceefax 401. Very uncomfortable night, tho, with temps not dropping below 19.5C.
  8. Oxford, 13.20: Temperature has soared to this afternoon and is now close to 31C, but the sky has turned milky. Humidity low @ 30%. I would expect expect temperatures to peak within the next hour, so it looks unlikely to reach yesterday's max.
  9. Thermometer reading 28.9C at 11.39 here in Oxford - too hot to sit out. I doubt we will top the 32.2C I recorded here yesterday though.
  10. LOL...who remembers their '-15C mid-December blizzards' forecast? There was an almighty uproar on weather forums across the net when December arrived and it was close to 10C - that's a staggering 25C out - with not a flake of snow to be seen. It's been just 6 weeks since that forecast went to pieces, and I can't believe they have the cheek to release such sensationalist headlines so soon after such a spectacular forecasting disaster. EDIT - though having said that, I just checked the updated BBC 5 day forecast and nearly fell off me chair. It predicts -11C for rural Oxfordshire Friday night! Incredible! Doubt it will happen though...
  11. My final vote goes to Anti Mild. I have never seen a sky like that before.
  12. My votes go to (in no particular order): Anti Mild 1 Cloudburst 2 Cloudburst 7 Kar999 3 RussDelaneyuk1
  13. Currently -50°C in Kent according to Metcheck. See latest recordings. Have to be quick as it will be updated soon! http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/HOME/
  14. Cold and clear at Reading University, with a lovely frost across the field, the first of the season, I believe. Temperature close to freezing, I imagine.
  15. Hello, I've been put on pre-moderation on the BBC messageboards for writing Spanish messages - very petty - so I thought I'd pop over here... What sort of gusts have been recorded so far? I'm surprised warnings of storm force winds have been issued, when gusts are forecast to reach only 70mph...I thought storm force was 90mph.
  16. Looks like it will slide right pass that high to the northeast. That's disappointing...
  17. Looks like Bermuda's gonna get a battering by 100mph winds tomorrow morning. But I expect it will be very hit and miss.
  18. Actually, unless the wind chart has recently been updated, it looks as though you're overestimating. Wilma will only make landfall as a category 1/2, with winds somewhere between 90 and 100mph. No big deal.
  19. What about Roundup? Kills the root. Kills the weed.
  20. The Atlantic's been very quiet since Hurricane Rita, but it looks as though Baja Califiornia might get a battering from Tropical Storm Otis on Monday.
  21. I think the BBC updates on Rita on ceefax page 416 are crap. She's so volatile that these daily updates are not enough. Even this morning's is well out of date, warning of 175mph winds with gusts to 210, when she is already down to 145mph. If they're gonna bother, they ought to issue more frequent updates.
  22. Can Somebody explain to me what eye replacement is?
  23. Why is she weakening so rapidly? Winds this evening are already down to 145mph, that's a drop of 30mph in only 12 hours. I can see the entire storm dissipating before even reaching land.
  24. What category will it be when it makes landfall?
