  1. Yeah, the bigger the better. I remember this time last year, it was very exciting to keep track of Hurricane Ivan's wind recordings, watching gusts reach 200mph at one point with sustained winds to 165mph, and wondering if it would make landfall at that intensity. How I would have loved to have been there in the storm with my WindWatch. I was considering getting a cheap flight out there at one point
  2. Are those quotes from the website? Note how people have got their units mixed up
  3. Well if the hurricane's winds are anything like the pathetic average 60kph on Rita, I should think everyone's in the clear
  4. Rita, Queen of Speed. Your best Alton Towers ride ever. Well that's what it says in the advert. Not actually seen it, though. I bet it's crap.
  5. Looks like it's finally a hurricane then. How exciting! 80 knots...that's 92mph
  6. Rita is really starting to try my patience now. For 48 hours she's been dithering about and can't make up her mind whether to become a hurricane or not, with winds fluctuating between 60 and 70mph. I thought she was expected to intensify a lot faster than this. Pretty soon she'll have made landfall without even have becoming a hurricane. I was hoping for at least a category 3.
  7. It hasn't intensified quite as rapidly as expected. Winds haven't really increased much in the last 24 hours, only 5 mph or so to 65.
  8. Oxford: Cool and cloudy. Not seen the sun all day and we even had light drizzle for an hour this morning. BBC forecast made no mention of this whatsoever.
  9. Recorded a low of 4.5C here in Oxford, a bit chilly for mid September! Will it be a cold night tonight?
  10. We had a storm pass near to us last night here in Oxford. The initial bolt was so close the thunder sounded like a gunshot. The storm was very slow moving as it moved north and east, so we saw some impressive lightning for hours after the event. Accompanying the thunder were some intense downpours; at one point my weather station recorded a rainfall rate of 150mm/hr, the highest I have ever seen. Late August/September is turning out to be quite a stormyperiod, and it's really making up for an uneventful summer
  11. It's pathetic how stubborn they're being about the smallest adjustments. I mean what I nonsense trying to show us fog on a weather map without any symbols. I think they're worried that too much tweeking will lead them back where they started -with the old graphics. Why can't they admit they've wasted millions of pounds again?
  12. We have lightning on the horizon here in Oxford. Very exciting! Thunder still inaudible. Temp 20.7C Humidity 81%
