  1. Not getting any of this hail you've had tonight and i'm only a half hour drive west! Guess you'er getting all the stuff thats passed my area over the sea since brighton is a little more south!
  2. Thanks for helping me understand it a bit better, perhaps in might just be the south downs in for something wintry, guess we will just have to wait and see.
  3. So when that ring of low pressure is directly over the south does it mean no wind but cold air and chances of snow??
  4. Any more updates from southeners on thunder storms tonight?? Saw some flashes in the east around brighton way at 8 which i think was from the isle of white so it went past my location over the sea! Edit: Just as i post that another shower starts, won't get my hopes up though..
  5. just had a similar thing happen here, rain and wind was swirling down so hard was worried a tornado was forming down my road for a mintute!!
  6. I'm a bit west of you but agree about it being most intense between 11 and 12, walked my girlfriend home at 11 and felt pretty nervous walking below some of the old trees! I've seen a few posts saying winds could increase in the south east up until 3 to 4:30am but dunno if we have seen the worst now?
  7. My appoligies, just went for the most active thread! I am very interested in your use of the word wintry but wont get my hopes up just yet.. After the last few years i'm sure we will get a snow fall at somepoint this winter but i think we'd be very lucky to get anything before christmas! Then again we got a decent snowfall last december down here and january onwards was a bit of a damp squib. I've seen a few poster on here in the portsmouth to brighton area so will post some updates tomorrow from my neck of the woods if we end up experiecing anything wild!
  8. I think this might be the first true halo i've seen then, many times i have seen rings of light around the moon but these have been quite close to the moon and perhaps due to clouds passing over it :s This was quite an interesting sight and i could only see it when out of the street lights glare. Anyway, i've only just gone 20 and dont remember alot of storms people talk about such as the boxing day one over a decade ago (this possibly could be a time i remember the sea crossing the coastal roads where i am!) and i know apart from the odd bit of torrential rain we haven't had anything to major down where i am for atleast the last few years, hope everyone stays safe but am also interested to see if this week holds some of the most extreme weather i have ever experienced.. Sorry about my off topic moon post! that is the astronomer in me but i have taken a big interest in weaher in the last couple of years but still am getting to grips with unterstanding certain charts etc.. What i've been wondering is after three low pressure systems in a week does this look to be a likely trend for the month ahead or can we not tell this early?
  9. While this might not have anything to do with tomorrows events has anyone else in the southeast seen the huge perfect halo around the moon tonight?? I tried to get a photo on my phone just now but 5mps just isn't good enough!
  10. Unfortunatly I don't quite understand these weather charts yet but am i right in thinking the south east on England is in for a bit of a battering when this comes in??
  11. So was yesterday the real storm day or have i got anything to look forward to tonight? Had three large claps around 1am last night and saw a nice bolt while my scared girl friend was crying down the phone to me, i tried not to sound to excited but that was sadly the best we've had this year..
  12. I remember seeing this once about 10 years ago on the south coast, while i'd be lying if i said i remember the month i remember it seemed a little earlier in the year for snow, we got a huge blizzard (huge blizzard by southern Englands standards ) , some lighting and thunder while it was intense and the snow settled although it turned into a sleat storm and was all melted within a few hours..
  13. Bit confused by what im seeing at 12 on the meteox radar!
  14. arghh what i'd do to see a tornado! i'm only about half an hour west along the coast and i swear it's always brighton getting the storms and exciting weather... edit: found a video, not as impressive as the 2006 brighton tornado videos.
  15. hi everyone im new on the train home from the chelsea match heading down south i saw lots of fork lightning and my sister saw a small bolt hit a chimney
