Wonder if this is the winter where we finally beat the Great Yorkshire Dump snowfall of 25th Jan 1995.... only time will tell.
-
Mine hovers between 21C and 19C.
I set a schedule that doesn't waste too much gas and keeps things comfortable. It comes on at 05:45 at 22C, drops to 20C at 08:30 but the house only gets to 20.9ish before it drops down. At 16:30 it goes to 20.5C till the overnight 17C schedule at 22:45. I run the boiler's radiator water temp at 62C, hot water 57C. We got rid of the greenhouse too over Autumn which has already saved a ton of electric by not having to heat that.

It's getting irritating to work in, my lungs are hating this cold.
Luckily i'm on a utility bill tarrif from 2020 and my gas bill is £2/day and electric £2.80/day.

I hate those crisp clear days with sub zero temps and strong, icy winds. Anything else I can put up with as it doesn't really set asthma off....

Toughest for working in for at least 2 decades. Far to dry, temps way way above the comfort level. Found it the worst summer since 2003 overall.
My views agree with this. It's been tough working in the sun, gone through alot of ibuprofen and paracetamol. I'm just not made for the heat, tried to climatise but I can't seem to adapt. On the flip side, affording winter heating for me won't be an issue...LOL!
Had we got decent rain with the heat and sun, the harvest season would've been awesome. Just way too dry everywhere for my liking to say Summer 2022 was a good one. I take Summer 2022 to be an ecological disaster for the Northern Hemisphere.- 4

Sorry to hear you are suffering , my chest has been very tight as well and it's miserable . Does a thunderstorm make you wheezy ?
It was crystal blue sky this morning but definitely a milky haze now and feeling sticky .
Very rare to get storms here but the humid pre storm weather causes that. Luckily i'm off work all next week!

Cracking weekend so far, not overly humid yet. I'm wanting a storm now as the solar panels have been invaded by pigeons, a hefty downpour is needed but I have quotes for rectifying the problem.
Try and try I just can't climatise to the heat properly. It's a lottery with the weather either triggering asthma or a migraine.... the crisp cold in winter has a similar effect too.- 1

What if and I mean a big if, that certain people can’t afford it. There’s going to be those who have no choice, because they don’t earn enough money to cover the cost of energy prices.
I also don’t agree with people having to work longer hours or extra days just to cover the extra costs.
Overworked people become sick much quicker.
Oh yeah, peeps really need help. It can't keep rising.
My fixed deal expires this month. Contemplating another fixed deal for 1 or 2 years at current price but yet to call them. -
I'd not advise anyone to stop paying their bills, that sounds like a recipe for trouble. Nothing stopping the energy companies from issuing CCJ's in the most severe of debts. I've been cancelling the little stuff and i've managed to budget for mine to be as high as £400/month. Granted work overtime makes up a good portion of that, especially the upcoming overtime over Christmas and New year.
Something else that concerns me somewhat, is the potential energy security if the UK and moreso the EU got a nasty winter and Putin didn't let the gas flow. We rely on the interconnects when the wind slows or demand is high due to conditions. -
I'll be hibernating in my room with the a/c set to 24C. Might get invaded with brother and his kids....

Most people are totally oblivious to how much we need rain...
I just hope that after this second and longer heatwave we will see some!
Yeah, most won't know and likely won't care till the taps stop flowing in their homes. Hopefully rain comes back soon.
Anyway, back to the heat - I thought it felt quite pleasant up here today.- 1

We desperately need a few months of good solid rain, the up coming heatwave as you say is the last thing both us, the wildlife, farmers, the NHS need at this time. OK if your sitting on your backside in your garden but for those actually working and trying to earn a living to pay those bills it is the very last thing we want or need.
I'm worried we'll get a boat load of torrential rain which will just cause flash floods on the rock hard ground.
Also I do think portable BBQ's need to be banned ASAP.- 5

Cracking summer holiday weather for the kids and resorts coming. Can't beat that, even if I don't personally like it!
What concerns me is how the rain returns. Don't want widespread storms as the flooding will be horrid. Nice transitional rain from a small Autumnal weather system would be lovely in September.- 2

I would happily put up with this weather if it lead to some spectacular high altitude electrical storms. Sadly all we get here are the 2 rumble gone in 10 min wonders! I am wondering how bad the rain catchup game will be later in the year.

The wind got me when I ventured out to alter wiring on a device outside. Couldn't catch my breath at all. Now sat in the bedroom, a/c is running it's heart out at 24C.

Thanks, luckily the window is not totally air tight but enough to make a difference. Hope your coping ok
I had a decent day, aside from continuing very odd bureaucratic politics at a site I love to hate so much. The heat reminds me of sitting outside in 44C heat at an In N Out off I8 outside of Los Angeles.
Kept the curtains shut since yesterday, it's helped so much as it's 25C downstairs and 24 up here. I think the combination of my air con, closing the windows and curtains as well as several convenient fans in other rooms has helped keep the edge off the temps inside. Also electric use is just over £5 for yesterday and today combined! I love having solar!- 3

Bedroom organised now, ac unit set up properly, sealed the window around the exhaust, all vents closed......The Alamo is set and ready for me to retreat to!
Careful by sealing the window you will draw air through the door to the bedroom and warm that part up as the exhaust creates negative air pressure.

According to the Leeds Uni station, it's 30ºC here. Link below, it's in Farenheit though as the uni's page itself is still frozen.

Oh I normally turn the boiler radiator temp right down in Spring and then periodically run the heating to move the water round.
-
I ran mine for an hour 2 weeks back. I like to move the water round in the radiators.
-
I'm gonna run the a/c overnight and hope it doesn't complain about being emptied. It never has yet and I take the thing apart regularly to clean the coils, electrics and both fan motors.

A lot of folk though will be working through the same and worse. Nothing in the UK is set up for this, hopefully this may be a eye opener for not just business but also the government. Take just one instance, the decontamination room in your local dentist due to current UK CQC regs can't have aircon. Now bear in mind the ambient temp will have a plus ambient temp in a small deconm room with normal kit of 10 to 15c above ambient depending on aspect of the room. Most have no ventilation due to regs. So do the maths 40c out is 55c in..plus all dental kit is steam usage, humidity is very high. Going to be tough, very tough.
Ouch. Guessing with the severe risk, work is limited to 5-10 mins at a time?
I filled the work car up. Boss says stay in it for as long as I like so i'm gonna take the spare keys and not turn it off all day - it's my H&S refuge from the conditions outside. Site that i'm commissioning equipment at is still business as usual, no special measures. Hoping that the outdoor electrical devices don't overheat and fail, lets see how bad things will be.
Debating if I should leave my a/c on at home so I can rest properly and be alert. It'll be on for 3 days without rest as i'm gonna run it overnight. -
My work has confirmed we're working. They sent a cheesy risk assessment and the NHS heat leaflet out. What's the point of a red warning/national emergency if it's not enforced or adhered to?
I'll be in a series of outdoor carparks on both Monday and Tuesday commissioning new access equipment. I'll probably park my car near to the equipment and not shut the engine off so I can go in it periodically to cool down.- 1

I just emailed our Health safety manager at work asking if he's done a risk assessment. I bet he hasn't.
I know the directors are having a jolly on one of the days under guise of an away day. They need to be booked into a room without air con so they know what other people are experiencing.
Mine are having a meeting about it. So far, it's just a normal day.... so many have no clue how hard outdoor jobs will be in this. I'm expecing infrastructure issues too.
I'm potentially meant to be at a hospital carpark bringing new equipment online but I will raise a question about them wanting me to attend, if they declare a heat emergency.
