  1. I refuse to believe it. It's the little-cam-that-could. It's got this far... just, well, a lot to go.
  2. The eyewall is basically hitting state highway 1 about now. Landfall, if you can call it land down there, is imminent.
  3. This pole cam I'm watching must have it's own power source somehow. God only knows how it's still transmitting.
  4. That house I can't see through the spray and blockiness in the background is definitely in the process of losing its roof. edit: Or it might just be a flag. Unsure. We'll find out if this pole camera survives the fact it's going through the eastern eyewall but never making it into the eye.
  5. Meanwhile, pretty sure that Grand Isle is part of the gulf of mexico right now.
  6. Occasional bits of debris floating past now. Some large, some small. Not exactly riveting, and a little bit sad really... but interesting to flick back and forth to. It'll probably be underwater soon though. John Humphress2 svrweather.com is chasing an impressive storm live on SevereStudios. Watch Live: WWW.SEVERESTUDIOS.COM
  7. The grand isle one is, surprisingly, still going. Pretty boring to watch - there's only so much windy inundation you want to see... but it's still going.
  8. Yup. The Texan pilot and "The little plane that could" from Florida (Holy crap did that one do a lot of work) both seem to be bugging out now too. Another mission heading in from texas - it'll probably get one, maybe two passes before landfall.
  9. Live from Grand Isle. The eye is heading right for it. Hoping this is a camera left behind, and not a camera attended. John Humphress2 svrweather.com is chasing an impressive storm live on SevereStudios. Watch Live: WWW.SEVERESTUDIOS.COM
  10. Army Corps of Engineers are seemingly confident about the levee system, which is absolutely a change from 16 years ago, and a positive one at that.
  11. Dropsonde in the NE eyewall. Oh dear. Edit: Ah. A handy direct link to the observation. http://tropicalatlantic.com/recon/recon.cgi?basin=al&year=2021&product=sonde&identifier=Ida&aircraft=3&month=08&day=29&mission=WB&agency=NOAA&ob=08-29-1316-31-951-162-140
  12. EarthCam - New Orleans Cam WWW.EARTHCAM.COM Corner of St Peters and Bourbon in the french quarter. When I checked a moment ago, someone was walking her dog.
  13. 928 was an extrapolated pressure in HDOBs... it could well be called at 928, but on the other hand, 932 is what the sonde measured on that latest vortex, so is probably the most accurate thing to go on.
  14. Eye now 16 nm, so tightening up again. Still 932 mb by sonde. 10 second wind of 149.6 mph observed in NE.
  15. The people of twitter seem to have a bit of a split going on. Some are saying "Pressure is down... but the wind speeds didn't seem quite as high - cour be an EWRC", while others suggest the winds might rise to match. A surprise unexpected EWRC wouldn't be a bad thing for LA right now. God knows it doesn't need it strengthening any more. Edit: VORTEX confirms pressure at 932 mb. Eye closed and circular, though it's expanded to 20 nautical miles from 15 earlier.
  16. Mission 14 into Ida - the flight out of Texas - just extrapolated 928.1 mb in HDOBs
  17. OK. My stomach is actually twisting right now. I might be sick. I was bad before, but holy crap.
  18. Really hoping that sonde measuring 936 mb was in error. Holy crap that's a big drop.
  19. Possible, but an extra 12 MpH in sustained winds in the time she has left is a big ask, especially as she approaches shallower waters. I stand ready to eat my hat on that, mind you. Stranger things have happened. In any case, unless there's a clear case for it (ie, it's obvious), I'm not sure it'd be worth calling it for cat 5 now, and perhaps they'd leave it for the post season review to decide anything marginal. All it'd do is scare the poor sods either stupid enough or unfortunate enough to no longer be able to get out of there. As is always the case, some people are about to experience hell, whether they let themselves in for it or simply didn't have a choice.
  20. We've also now got another mission leaving Texas. What a night for the hunters!
  21. Maintenance issues galore, it seems. Fingers crossed for the current crew who didn't actually expect to take off. lol
