  1. UK Outlook for Monday 21 Apr 2014 to Monday 5 May 2014: High pressure should retain a good deal of influence across the UK, with plenty of dry, and at times sunny weather, although the north and west may see spells of rain at times. Amounts of rainfall should generally be below average for many places too. By day, temperatures are likely to often be near or above average, so conditions are likely to feel quite pleasant in the sunshine. Nights, meanwhile, may be chilly with a touch of ground frost possible. Updated: 1259 on Sun 6 Apr 2014 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  2. UK Outlook for Friday 11 Apr 2014 to Sunday 20 Apr 2014: Early rain will clear southern areas on Friday to leave a drier day with sunny spells and showers and staying breezy in the north with further rain later. This will move southwards through Saturday, weakening as it does so. Brighter, showery weather will follow to the north with rain clearing all areas on Sunday morning with sunny spells, showers and cooler temperatures following. By Monday, it turns drier and sunnier across southern areas, with rain and stronger winds in the north. Temperatures will be mostly near normal but rather warm in the south, although local frost is still possible. Thereafter, a north/south split in the weather looks likely, with southern areas enjoying the driest conditions with wetter and windier periods in the north. 3. UK Outlook for Thursday 10 Apr 2014 to Saturday 19 Apr 2014: A band of rain across northern parts of the UK on Thursday is expected to move southwards during Friday. Clearer, showery conditions should follow to the northwest of the UK but more rain is expected here later. Daytime temperatures should be near average, perhaps a little above in the southeast. Indications then show generally more unsettled weather during the weekend with rain moving southeastwards across the UK, heaviest in the northwest. Into the following week, there are signals for southern parts to see more settled and drier weather, with the most unsettled and windiest conditions further north. Temperatures should be mainly near normal, perhaps rather warm at times over central and southern parts, and maybe a little below average in the far north. 6. UK Outlook for Wednesday 9 Apr 2014 to Friday 18 Apr 2014: It should be mostly fine at first with light winds, although the far northwest of the UK may be cloudier and breezier with rain at times. A few showers are possible in the southwest on Thursday too. It will be quite chilly by night with frost possible but daytime temperatures should be near or above average. Indications then show generally more unsettled weather by the end of the week with most places seeing rain at times but there should be some decent dry interludes too, especially in the south and east of the UK. Temperatures may also become nearer to normal, perhaps a little below in the north. Into the following week there are signs of more settled weather returning, particularly across southern areas. 7. UK Outlook for Wednesday 16 Apr 2014 to Wednesday 30 Apr 2014: Signals for this period are currently more uncertain than usual with no strong signals concerning most likely weather types. As such a mixture of some fine periods interspersed with occasional showery or dull, damp spells is thought likely. By day, temperatures are likely to often be near or above average, so conditions are likely to feel quite pleasant in sunshine. Northwestern parts may, however, be a little colder than average at times. Nights, meanwhile, may be chilly with a touch of ground frost at times. 8. UK Outlook for Sunday 6 Apr 2014 to Tuesday 15 Apr 2014: Cloud and rain expected to soon spread eastwards across the UK on Sunday, rain then perhaps heavy at times in the west and southwest. Clearer, but colder, showery and quite windy conditions will then follow from the northwest later on Sunday but probably not reach southern and eastern regions until Monday. These colder and showery conditions are then expected to persist for a two or three days, showers then heavy at times and also wintry over hills. Temperatures by both day and night then colder than of late, with frost and icy patches likely overnight. Later next week conditions are likely to turn drier, less windy and more settled again. Nights then probably still chilly with a risk of ground frost, but feeling warmer again by day. Updated: 1201 on Tue 1 Apr 2014 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html
  9. UK Outlook for Tuesday 15 Apr 2014 to Tuesday 29 Apr 2014: Signals for this period are currently very uncertain. However, latest indications suggest that changeable conditions are more likely for the UK through much of this period. As such, some spells of wet and perhaps windy weather can be expected at times, these most frequent towards the west. Some good drier and sunnier interludes are also expected. Temperatures are likely to be around average for the time of year, although warmer conditions are likely to develop at times across parts of the country. 10. UK Outlook for Saturday 5 Apr 2014 to Monday 14 Apr 2014: Dry and bright to start Saturday, before turning windier as cloud and outbreaks of rain spread east. Clearer and more showery conditions are likely by Sunday with some good sunny spells, particularly towards the southeast. Windier than of late, especially in the west. Temperatures generally down on recently but still above normal, and warmer than of late in the northeast. Into the following week there should be further showers and sunny spells. Showers most frequent in the north and west where it should remain windy with temperatures near normal, perhaps turning colder. Drier, brighter and warmer in the south and east, though some periods of rain are possible. Later in the period is more uncertain, although indications are it could turn colder and windy with wintry showers in the north. 11. Monthly Outlook Summary April Showers?.... In contrast to the wet weather of recent months, March turned out to be drier than average, and also slightly warmer and sunnier than would usually be expected. Last week we experienced a fairly typical spell of spring weather across the UK, with some marked variation in conditions, both in terms of temperature and the overall feel of the weather. The week began on a very cold and frosty note, with Redesdale Camp in northern England recording an overnight minimum of -6.8 Celsius, the lowest temperature registered in England for over a year. As the week progressed, a brisk and rather raw easterly wind developed, pegging temperatures a little below the average for March. Indeed, on Thursday, temperatures in eastern areas of the UK really struggled. Some of the showers that crossed the UK actually fell as snow to relatively low levels. Conversely though, there were also some very pleasant conditions to be had in the west at times. As we moved into the weekend, just a subtle shift in wind direction by a few degrees to a southeasterly allowed much milder and drier air to be dragged in across the bulk of the UK. Consequently we saw temperatures shoot up to 21 degrees across parts of southeast England on Saturday under hazy, sunny skies. That said, in keeping with the mixed theme, northeastern areas of the UK really struggled through the weekend as the warmer continental air was cooled significantly by the North Sea that is particularly cold this time of year. Skies across Northern Ireland were also rather cloudy through the weekend. All in all, the very mixed weather picture that we saw last week is very typical of a British spring. It's therefore not that surprising that as we move into the first week of April, a similarly varied story emerges. This weekend also brings something of a sporting spectacle, with both the Grand National and the Boat Race. Read on to find out the details, and the likely going for the runners, riders and rowers!!......... Monday 31 March—Sunday 6 April April under starters orders...and they're off!! March will end on a similar theme to the weekend, with the southeasterly winds continuing to bring a flow of warmer air across many central and southeastern parts. Northeastern areas will continue to fair rather poorly, with the breeze coming in off the cold North Sea, keeping plenty of cloud and some rather suppressed temperatures. A few heavy, thundery showers will affect southwest England, Wales, The Midlands and then later Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland. April gets underway by Tuesday, and there will be very little change in the story, with three broad weather types continuing to affect the UK; the warmer and mainly dry conditions across southeastern and central parts, with some hazy sunshine, the mix of sunny spells and heavy showers for western areas, and the cooler, cloudier regime for northeast England and eastern Scotland. Wednesday is likely to bring the warmest weather of the week to southeast England, where temperatures may peak at 21 or 22 Celsius in one or two places. On Thursday, the showery bands affecting western parts will become organised, bringing more prolonged spells of rain. Elsewhere conditions should stay mainly dry, but with the same large contrast in temperatures between the brighter south and the cloudier northeast. At this stage, it looks like Friday will bring a change in the weather, with a band of rain moving from west to east across the UK, with some drier, brighter conditions pushing into the west later. The big sporting weekend should see a return to a more mobile southwesterly wind flow, which is likely to result in some bands of rain crossing the UK at times through the day, but with some brighter interludes in between. At the moment, it looks like the Grand National will see a mixture of sunny spells and showery bands of rain pushing through from the west. The best chance of any more prolonged dry weather may well be to the southeast later in the weekend, so conditions for the Boat Race on Sunday could turn out to be reasonably fair. Monday 7 April—Sunday 13 April Nothing special..... By the time the second week of April gets underway, the UK will be under the influence of a more west to southwesterly air stream. As such, we can expect weather systems to cross from the west at various times through the week, bringing some spells of wet and windy weather. The most unsettled weather does look as if it will be mainly confined to western and northwestern areas of the UK, but eastern regions may also see some wet and windy weather from time to time. The best of any drier and brighter weather looks likely to be across southern England, where the current forecast consensus suggests that a ridge of high pressure will develop. In terms of temperature, it seems most probable that daytime highs will be around the mid-April average, with the scope for a few chilly nights now and then. Monday 14 April—Monday 28 April An uncertain end to the month!! At this stage, there is a greater amount of uncertainty than usual about the longer term forecast moving into the closing stages of April. The various computer modelling techniques and systems that are employed to determine the longer term forecast don't show a great deal of consensus. However there is enough confidence to suggest that conditions are likley to stay on the unsettled side, with the wettest and windiest conditions affecting mainly western areas. There are also hints that there could be some slightly warmer than average interludes, particularly in the south. Next week May is on the way, will it bring us any warm weather?..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2635167#outlook
