  1. Hi I got my Vue from Red Onions http://www.red-onions.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=87951 who were great to deal with (genuineUK stock from official dist).

I upgraded like you to the Vue, that was 11 months ago and it's been fabulous. It actually went wrong this week though, but I called up McMurdo (now Orolia) the Uk service agents who were just brilliant. I called them at 09.30 yesterday morning and today the replacement board for the faulty windspeed arrived at home. Now thats service and not what you would get from China! Other than that it is great.

I would point out the "obvious" that the Vue is a compromise, in so much as where it is an all in one unit and you must decide if you want really accurate wind, or rain and temp (as a side issue mine is always within 0.1 of a degree different from the local METAR!). I go for wind, but thats me.

With the service back-up that must be second to none, it would be hard to get a better unit for the price. Go for it.

    Hope this helps

  2. From memory, that weather station is a rebadged Fine Offset / Watson model and good value for money generally (for what you actually get;-) ). I dont think you can really expand much on it though, and the windspeed is only read about every 15 seconds - so good as indicator, but that accurate. However, don't knock it, it's a great start.

As for software Cumulous is quite popular ( and free/shareware) and is easy to use. Many people prefer Weather Display as it's bigger and more versatile, but you do have to pay for it after a month. It's horses for courses though, if you're happy, stick with it.

I would suggest using this as an "intro" into weather, but be warned,,,,, it's rather addictive. Welcome to the forum!

  3. ahem! please dont stereotype all the english! i'm proud to be english born and bred but i also love my adopted country and it's folk!

Trouble is many are totally naive the same as i was, about just how different wales actually is from much of the rest os the uk. i didnt even realise just how big and remote it is until i moved here.

that said, non of that is helped by the london bias of the british news broadcasters (and parliment) who seem to ignore the fact the uk doesn't stop at the severn bridge and assume everyone earns 28k a year minimum, and can just hop on a bus every 10 mins when they come along. and dont get me started on the fact nobody needs cars around here!

cor, I sounded almost Welshy then, lol.

  5. Well, got up this morning and at 08.30 already had 23mm of rain! that takes my total for the year to over 4 foot! at 1245.5mm. Thats including about 3 weeks with no station at the start of the year.

Don't know whether to be excited and watch the gauges on WDL or be depressed at the thought of more to come, lol.

    Aquastarmist, clever little graphic there!

  6. Just tio let you all know (some of you may be pleased!) I have tendered my resignation as a Regional Host.

Tony, I hope it was nothing in here that has led to that decision. Speaking personally, as someone who tries to understand what is happening and why,(and failing miserably, lol) weatherwise I shall be very sad to see you stand down. From what I have seen you have been a good example for other mods to follow, your own person, with you own opinions, but allowing the thoughts of others to be aired openly.

Thank you very much and PLEASE keep posting in here, I cannot be alone when I say I look forward to your balanced views and valuable experience be shared. Thank you!!!

  7. Not now you've got the new power station warming up the Haven, eh UKWoody! Come up the Preseli's!

I know, I get depressed enough now! I work opposite the power station, on the LNG plant and you should see the steam clouds it produces somedays! they're huge!!! Snow here, Huh!

If I could get work up in the Hills I would do beleive me!

P.S Andy, go for it man, I got married in july after 8 years, and yes itdoes sometimes take something to make you sit up and take notice. As for Nookie, well we have nookie nearly every night.... Nearly on a Monday, nearly on a Tuesday, nearly on a Wednesday....rofl.gif

  8. It doesn't matter - all models are showing EASTERLIES - EASTERLIES - EASTERLIES - these are massive great big warnings that we are about to get the big one with snow and freezing temps - anyone can see that surely!

edit:- opened door to take away guy earlier - it was perishing cold - like opening the door to my freezer - so when these showers get here - wouldn't like to guess what we're gonna get - could well be something wintry - up here in the crows nest - aye aye Jim Lad - ha ha ha ha - Polly want a cracker?

Looks like we got all of Wales on here tonight + a few sheep I wouldn't mind betting ha ha ha ha lol!

Not when you're this far West Andy!
