  1. One good this has come from this already, a Sonic roof collapsed from the snow in Alva
  2. Yeah was watching some of reeds videos from there, amazing totals! Did you see the cars abandoned just outside of Amarillo?
  3. Yep didn't realise it was next week until laura said, can't wait!
  4. unlucky mark, it's really frustrating sometimes. we got hit by the clouds last night and we had a car at last. Found a perfect spot 10km or so out of town over a lake, aurora came out and I got about ten photos and then in rolled the clouds. we could have driven for hours and not cleared them. Got back and saw abisko going nuts again! Scoped out this area pretty well in the car yesterday and can't wait to come back. Got loads of spots to go to to watch the aurora on my list!
  5. Last nights show was awesome! Just like it was last year with the dancing curtains, even got some pinks! Had the aurora arc for about three hours and in the middle the show for about 15 minutes. Pics up on facebook Thick fog here today so don't hold up much hope for anything else. Got a car hired so should be fun :|
  6. Finally got some! Went out about 8pm and saw the green tinge within 5 minutes. Walked north out of town and managed to get a few snaps. We struggled getting away from the street lights and not be in the dense woods. The lights pulsed all night until Laura finally succumbed to the cold around midnight at -23c Perfect timing as they pretty much vanished when we started the walk back to the hotel. Heres a quick pic, got a few more I'll put up later Next CME glance is due the day we leave so anything we see now is a bonus, fingers crossed!
  7. Nothing here, stayed up for as long as poss but clouds remained. Beautiful clear skies today so hopefully it stays that way! Was gutting seeing the Abisko camera just get any accommodation there so we came here instead!
  8. No go here yet too much cloud about and it seems to be covering finland! Abisko is lit up though looking at the camera there's plenty time yet but not looking good now for tonight. The joys of aurora chasing!
  9. Sat in Helsinki waiting for our flight up. Looking good for tonight and tomorrow and looking at the radar skies are clearing, just hope it continues. Noaa going for a 35% chance for tonight Mark, not sure where you're based but someone posted this up at spaceweather from last night in iceland http://spaceweather.com/gallery/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=76340 Debating wether to hire a car or not when we land :/ Good luck for tonight, happy hunting!
  10. clear skies again on the next forecast! Here's hoping we all catch something
  11. I read that earlier too..weather forecast was for clear skies fri/sat/sun but recent forecast changed now It is a bit general though so fingers crossed! I'll hire a car if need be
  12. Hmm this looks quite good Takes a a bit to set up the maps, if only it wouldn't crash trying to load the scripts they've already made. Might have a good play with this in the morning
  13. Ian had some made up, not sure if he has any left though.
  14. We're off back to finland on the thursday 8th, I might start a thread too! Staying in Helsinki and then up to Ivalo till Tuesday. Again my hopes are not that high unlike last year, but -20c predicted when we arrive so should be fun! Fingers crossed for ya!
  15. Prices coming down again, £620 ish direct from Heathrow or £510 with one stopper. From Manchester with one stop is only £490 for my rough dates and okay times. Might opt for that this year, we'll see!
  16. Got back in a couple of hours ago and reeeeeeeeally tired! You know I never saw one can of the stuff while we were there, guess I must have just missed it on the shelf or too busy eating pastrami Anyway...you're right about media whores, seems these yanks get pics in everywhere and half of them are rubbish so must do more this year. I need to see what the wife wants/can do and if she can't then I'll need a chase partner! That Katashak does look awesome...
  17. Looking forward to the updates, Tom. You Off this year, Dave? I need to go again but not sure if the wife can do it because of work...
  18. Gutted we're missing this too....
  19. Tis a good idea and something that I may look at doing next year, however I'm usually the one changing the tyres!
  20. 4 Tornado reports yesterday, 2 in Arkansas and 2 in Missisispsisispsisisppiiii. 3 injuries too
  21. The north west part of that hatched box is actually in a chaseable area! I can't remember what they grow there, cotton is it? Anyway I'll sit in Pine Bluff ready and waiting
  22. Ooooh I see you're out there now! You got a team of students to go chase with?
  23. Currently thinking Liberal, KS to Perryton, TX initially for tomorrow....
  24. I'm fuming with myself I didn't book now haha! Currently looking for the next big trough
  25. Saturday up to SLIGHT risk already....Ireally should have been on a plane by now ...UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS... GIVEN THE STRENGTH OF THE WARM SECTOR DEEP LAYER MEAN FLOW FIELDS/SHEAR AND FORCING FOR UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION...SEVERE POTENTIAL ON SATURDAY MAY ULTIMATELY BE HIGHER THAN CURRENTLY INDICATED BY THE SLIGHT RISK CATEGORICAL OUTLOOK. CONDITIONS MOST SUPPORTIVE OF THIS POTENTIAL STILL APPEAR MOST PROBABLE TO EVOLVE FROM PARTS OF EASTERN NEBRASKA AND KANSAS THROUGH CENTRAL AND NORTHERN MISSOURI...IOWA AND ADJACENT PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN AND NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS. HOWEVER...UNCERTAINTY LINGERS CONCERNING THE DEGREE OF WARM SECTOR BOUNDARY LAYER DESTABILIZATION THAT MAY OCCUR...DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF CONSIDERABLE EARLY PERIOD CONVECTION WHICH MAY SLOW OR INHIBIT INSOLATION. COUPLED WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED MODEL VARIABILITY...TOO MUCH UNCERTAINTY STILL EXISTS FOR HIGHER SEVERE PROBABILITIES. BUT A SIGNIFICANT CONVECTIVE DAMAGING WIND EVENT APPEARS A POSSIBILITY. IT MAY NOT BE OUT OF THE QUESTION THAT CONDITIONS COULD BECOME FAVORABLE FOR TORNADIC SUPERCELLS.
