  1. I think we're all waiting for the sun to pep things up as the central mass of air ( south of the current low centre?) starts to throw up storms? That area of storm that I pointed out also seem to be in an area of rotation from the low centre??? Looks bound for Oxford? Any reports of the storms embedded in the end of that wedge?

Definately a storm embedded in the wedge. Just passed over us and was fantastic.

  2. Normally only shows cloud to ground so often when you get a storm you see much more lightning at your location compared to what the lightning maps show. This is why you often get storms not showing on lightningmaps, I had one back in May and it was all cloud-cloud and didn't show at all on lightningmaps.

    Thanks for that.

Still flashing around here and close to Swindon centre

  3. holy smokes, field to the rear of our garden struck by lightning, I kid you not!......the resultant explosive concussion of thunder should be bottled and prescribed as an instant cure for constipation!!

I remember being stood in the entrance to the old Do it All building over Greenbridge retail park before it was developed during a storm. Lightning struck the building directly opposite me about 100 yds away. Apart from being blinded for a second as if a flasgun had gone off in your face, there wasn't so much as a clap of thunder as just a loud bang. If you ever seen those tv programs where they try to simulate lightning in a test chamber when all you here is a loud crack as it discharges, it was just like that. No extended rumbles or anything, just a shotgun going off in your ear. Amazing to experience but a bit to close for comfort.

  4. Ah! Rodbourne railway bridges. The favorite Swindon flashflood hot spot. Got a feeling storm drains converge there before passing the sewage works before entering the River Ray. Apparently you can drive a Range Rover down the storm drain under there it's that big. In these situations the water pushes up the manhole covers and floods the road, the drain still can't cope. This means Bridgemead Sainsburys most probably got flooded as well.

  5. Hey All.

VERY interesting updraught just passed a few miles north of here - I was watching it twisting up into the storm cell. No wall clous aws such, but some rising scud - A heads up for anyone downwind of Cirencester. what a SUPERB summer!!!! Posted Image
