  1. Ok im worried because im going to the air tattoo on saturday this weekend and i don't want a repeat of last year does anyone think the air tattoo is at risk of yet another year called off due to flooding.

Not a chance. Organisers have guaranteed the show will go on come rain or shine. After last year, they have now introduced on airfield parking and those who get diverted to the fields will be parking on temporarily laid roads.

  2. Having to have an enforced holiday today I'd thought I'd do some housekeeping on the camera. I was just about to delete all the pics so decided to load them all onto my hardrive and came across these I took in summer 2008 from my back garden. Rather then delete them I thought I'd post them on here.

    Darren.

  3. Witney - Moderate Snow...

    Full observation:

    Surface Wind 030/11 kts

    Vis - 2000m

    Weather - Snow

    Air Temp - -2°C

    Snow for two consecutive days.

Lived all over this country from Thurso to Plymouth and have never known this to happen. Had every other day, but not this.

Just tried to get to Witney from Swindon. Don't know why I bothered. Highworth looked to be impassable as it says it's high on a hill and no one was getting up it.

Oh well, at least I managed to get back home. Taking an enforced holiday.

  4. Yeah, then they'll have a reason to be scared! :wallbash:

Being aware of what it is and what it can do can be important. The amount of people I've seen not taking a blind bit of notice when dangerous CGs are raining down is unbelievable.

My sentiments exactly. I've always had a phobia of storms mainly because of the sudden, unpredicted nature of the lightning.

Now i am an electrician and have been for the last 20 years i can tell you how much 240volts hurts let alone the many millions of volts in a lightning bolt.

The products we make at work suffer major build ups of static amounting to thousands of volts and that can be very painfull to the unsuspecting. How some people survive direct lightning strikes must be down to pure luck or the fact the entire bolt did not pass through their body.

  5. Thunder here again but gone dark and its just misrible with all this rain

Sure is. The brook taking the main runoff from the town centre has now burst it's banks. The councils flood protection idea of a pinch point in it to back up the water to prevent downstream flooding would have worked except the floodwater water is now going via the fields and around it.

Postie has just been. I think i'll need to put the mail in the airing cupboard for an hour before attempting to open it.

  6. Thats just what the sky looked like from my back garden in Swindon at about 1 o'clock on Saturday. Pitch black with like a rolling layer of lower cloud. Garden furniture went flying and rain like i've never seen before. Judging by the sheets of rain that went past my window i would estimate about 40 mph gusts.
