  1. Well the shower has been and gone now, its stopped snowing now. That was some 20 mins of snow, really really heavy as SnowyOwl said. Tremendous shower, if only it could have done that for a few hours we would be talking a foot of snow Has dumped a thick covering of a few cm's here by the look of it. Looks like a direct hit for the burgh too according to the radar, hope the eastern side of Edinburgh, including Leith get what we had, but the west side up by Sighthill and Wester Hailes would be greedy asking for anymore
  2. We had 6 inches of snow lying on wednesday of last week but its gradually gone since with the slightly milder spells here on the coast giving us rain or sleet at times and temps of 3-4 degress C. We're now left with odd bits of thick ice from that episode before today's covering. Snowing REALLY heavilly now, heaviest i think ive seen it here in a long long time!! Hope it keeps up for a while
  3. Yep, those big flakes seem to be gradually turning to more heavy snow now, slowly but surely, c'mon you can do it
  4. Im watching this one closely. Here in Prestonpans we have had snow showers off and on all day but have only really got a covering, no actual snow depth of any note although everywhere is white, including roads and has been for hours now. If that shower hits us we would be looking at at least a few cm's i think, looks like its hitting around dunbar, north berwick almost head on so i might only sneak part of it? Edit: Some big flakes starting to fall.....
  5. Still waiting for some snow here. Had the brief 30 min blizzard yesterday that made the place white then slushy and icy, no lying snow of note here, maybe a millimetre of two depending on where you look. Whats the chances of some substantial snow (a few cm's for us) reaching here soon? Not holding out much hope.
  6. Just happened to take a glimpse at Metcheck although i dont do that very often. If only their forecast was correct. A 90% + chance of snow in my area on Saturday, snow right through Christmas Day with temperatures of 0, a boxing day high of -6 and the temp not going above -4 right through to the end of the forecast period of December 30th. I WISH  How are things looking anyway, not had much chance to look through the charts yet though im going to take a look. Looking good for all on Saturday? Still looking potentially mild on Xmas Day (despite Metcheck's dreamcast)? Cheers
  7. Hello from dull and damp Prestonpans, East Lothian. Im in the same boat as Shuggee what with the lack of snow. We really need the winds from the East or NorthEast to have a chance. Usually the northerly winds dump the snow in Highlands and then there's nothing left for us, doesn't help that we are on the coast of the Forth too  Lets hope those charts above come off, off this weekend so a snow bonanza would be very welcome
  8. :o The beach may have been a bit draughty there!! What snow are you talking about? Im totally lost sorry? Im starting to forget what it looks like im afraid Anyway, whats this about these people getting 20 inches of snow? Thats pure greed!!!!! Shocking that im having to go to the Cairngorms next weekend for a snow fix
  9. If your not happy with that 1.5cm then how about i just take it in future? This morning i woke to nothing but wet ground with no white in sight. But i have since been told before i got up it was Blizzard conditions here but did not lie and yet having driven around Edinburgh today it seems everywhere to the north, south, east and west of me is white bar a couple of towns either side! Not so much a snow dome we have here more a 'No chance of it lying' Dome Lets hope we get a couple of cm's over the next 48 hours but im really not holding my breath! Easterly seems to be the only way we can get any half decent snowfall!
  10. Congrats to all that got snow this morning, especially in Fife, i woke up just after the precipitation had gone and found there to be lots of wet paths but no snow in sight! Superb
  11. I think we will see some snow sun/mon but it will probably not amount too much. Funny that this weather warning is only for England when the band hits Scotland too, bizarre!! Also noticed there is now another weather warning out for parts of England for monday for 5-10cm to accumulate that day but again nowt here? Why? Anyway, anyone noticed the complete opposition on longish range forecasts at the moment from various sites? Some mentioning how its getting mild next week then others such as the METO changing from their milder attitude to its continuing cold with further sleet/snow? Interesting, hopefully we have some hope left yet!
  12. The showers seem to be trying really hard to come south. But, will they reach the Central belt? Definetely..... Not!!!!
  13. Very light snow from about 9am till 10am or so here. Just added to the 2mm's or so we already had and maybe gave us 3mm on grass and nowt on roads and pavements Starting to melt away now too! Would be good to see a trough push down over the country from the north, that system approaching the north looks very interesting but again how often do we see things like this on the satellite only to find nothing comes from it for the majority? Really hope im wrong and we get a pasting like the Northeast though
  14. Yea i know what you mean. But at least it has snowed today so we know its cold enough and temp at 0.6 here and dewpoint around -1. Precipitation looking better now if that band in the north heads our way. Just watched BBC Foecast at 10:35 and they now have the snow over us from say 2am until about 3pm tomorrow afternoon so ample chance for a few cm's to fall hopefully. Bring on the next easterly
  15. Yea so you generally have more chance with the snow than moi in Prestonpans. Snow stopped earlier, left a tiny layer of white everywhere but hopefully some proper snow later but i have my doubts
  16. Im in Edinburgh at the mo and its snowing but tiny flakes as expected but everything is going slowly white and its only been on 10 mins. Heavy but small flakes. Snowyowl, let me know if you have any luck over there as i live in East Lothian (as you may have noticed) so want to know if its snow there? Where abouts in East Lothian are you?
  17. Sunday evening/night looks very interesting for our very own snow event! Having just checked current models it shows a band of rain pushing in from the west and hitting Scotland around mid afternoon and the east coast by around 6pm. Temperatures look to be around freezing or below across most of the country, precipitation looks fairly heavy and Precipitation Type shows Snow for Central and Eastern Scotland throughout the duration of the band passing through. Would be good to see a proper snow event hit Scotland as well one hit England and Wales!
  18. Still nice and sunny here in Edinburgh! Good to see that according to the MetOffice satellite images the cloud with this system does not seem to extend much further than the actual precipitation. Should hopefully allow temperatures to fall before it arrives here.
  19. Maybe no news is good news when it comes to MetOffice Weather Warnings
  20. So is tomorrow's potential snow event actually looking like coming off? Like the rest of you on the east coast last night's expected snowfall ended up being rain/sleet and now the snow had melted and so after a really promising day with snow showers getting heavier and heavier it ended up turning into a non-event! The snow risk charts and precip charts are looking good but is this the case for coastal regions as well as inland? I am on the coast of the firth of forth so near the coast although not on the east coast as such, is it likely no snow will be found here? Whats this about thursday? As far as i knew thursday didnt look snowy? Where has this info come from? Hopefully we all see a fair bit in the coming weeks
  21. We have had a few snow showers over the last few days but today it's rain showers! I hear this 'snow' band is heading to my area overnight so for you experts out there who look at all the models etc - is it likely this weather front will bring me rain/sleet considering im near the coast but taking into consideration we had snow showers and about 1cm snow cover the other day!?
  22. So its looking good for the weekend for my area in East Lothian then!? We had about 1cm of lying snow last night but its all melted through the day with temps near 5 degrees and a mixture or rain, sleet and snow showers! Hope to see some decent snow cover over the weekend then for a change! Ive mentioned this once or twice in a few posts before but i am planning on driving up to Fort William on sunday - is my journey likely to be affected by the snow? I mean, is the band of snow going to have pushed up into the highlands by early afternoon on sunday? I plan to leave about 10am and hope to be up and away through the highlands before the weather gets too tricky!
  23. I know there is a snow event across the UK bar Scotland tomorrow and good luck to all you snowlovers with that, certainly looking very good for some. But just read on the main page of a low pressure system being expected to bring snow to Midlands northwards at the weekend. So does anyone have any more information on this as it is only a few days away and is it looking likely to be as significant for Scotland as the current one will be for many other parts of the UK!? Id love to see some good snow in my area as we dont often get it but also i am planning to drive up to Fort William on Sunday so am very interested to know if this journey looks likely to be affected! We just had one light snow shower earlier but looking good for a few more through the evening and overnight.
  24. Ive not been following this cold spell really closely so im just wondering if it is expected this really snowy weather expected down south could push northwards into southern scotland or is it expected to die out before then?
  25. Any of you experts got any ideas what the chances are of snow in my part of East Lothian quite near the coast this week!? Not had any lying snow all winter and not even really a proper snow shower either. Plus im planning to drive to Fort William on Sunday - looking dodgy??
