  1. Hope your right LSS, would be nice given we have only had a proper covering once this winter and even then it was 2cm and lasted only a day. Down in Avonbridge this afternoon near Armadale and there's a few cm's here. How's things looking in your part of Fife?
  2. Glad to see most of us are getting some snow today!! We had a light covering this morning but didn't last long once the sun came out. What's the chances of snow down my way at the coast after dark that may be substantial enough to give a decent covering? Not expecting it but would be a nice surprise
  3. Really frustrating day here! Been chucking it down with snow since 7am yet all it's doing is helping a slow melt of existing snow cover. Hoping things improve later but not holding my breath. It's currently starting to try and stick but its far too wet now.
  4. Been out walking for past 3 hours and all the while been watching shower after shower hit Fife head on and miss us by a few miles every time!! Are the winds forecast to change later and move the showers more down the forth than into Fife where we might catch a few lol?
  5. Heavy snow here for past 20 minutes, covered the roads in minutes and still going. Hope it keeps up - I think both wind speed and temperature have gone up a bit here.
  6. Hope your all enjoying some snow tonight!! We have a covering here in Prestonpans, easily the best this winter so far! Hopefully catch more snow showers tonight and over the next few days. Lamppost watching for the first time this winter!
  7. Ahhh in that case it doesn't surprise me you have seen more than me up here lol. Most we have had all winter is a brief covering in December that lasted 1 day, lucky if it was mm's in depth and a few passing flakes here and there. Really hoping something comes along and gives us a decent dump in the near future. I reckon East Lothian has been pretty unlucky so far.
  8. Snowy Owl - Where about in East Lothian are you? Not seen anything in Prestonpans yet?
  9. Hi Catch, How accurate are these precipitation charts? They do seem to indicate heavy snow right down to sea level in the east and suggest I could get a decent snowfall even though I'm at sea level? Would love it to be the case. As for snow watch - damp outside with very light snow not settling currently.
  10. Yea the uppers do look favourable but I always wonder if being so close to the coast will cause it to fall as sleet. Would just be happy to see a few centimetres on the ground for a time. Reckon patience is the name of the game though, going by many of the comments on here the end of the month could be when the real fun starts. Just good to be talking about snow prospects again! Yea things do look more straightforward in NE England, surely wouldn't need much of a change to put us in an equally favourable position? The possible easterly midweek looks interesting!
  11. Don't post here too often but am a regular viewer of the forum, cracking place to be with so many laughs as well as expert opinions, a brilliant read, it never fails. Couldn't be a more interesting time to be on the forum either!! LS - Love reading your view on matters, particularly like the sound of this upgrade for the next few days snow! I am in Prestonpans, East Lothian so pretty close to the forth. Do you reckon this upgrade is enough to get me some snowfall in the next few days? Must say I have been expecting rain/sleet but would love to see some snow! Cheers
  12. No snow here, plain old drizzle... Had a light covering Sunday night that was promptly washed away Monday morning and some snow on Tuesday night that didn't lie. Considering we are next to the forth it's to be expected i suppose. Next week could have a bit of potential for us though!? Looking good for many of us i think!
  13. Sunday looks promising. GFS shows heavy precipitation over southern and south eastern scotland for 12 hours solid with snow the whole way through going by the precip type charts. I usually take no notice of that but at 36 hours out is it worth looking at? Regardless of the models i can't see me getting any snow down here in the sea air but i would love to be surprised. Don't even care if it lies, just to see hours of falling snow would make me happy
  14. Good seeing snow falling in Edinburgh City Centre today even though it was not lying! How is it looking snow-wise for my trip to Pitlochry on Saturday and trip back down the road Sunday?
  15. Thanks for that John. Too be honest whenever these storms appear we do usually get some really strong gusts here, my thinking was that with the winds coming from the NW rather than W/SW as they normally do in these storms we may actually be hit a bit worse than usual with lack of shelter from that direction with the winds coming right down the forth and into my area?
  16. Hi John, Although i don't post very often i do read the forum on a daily basis and enjoy reading your posts, very informative. Being on the coast in East Lothian we are used to getting some high winds, the worst i can remember being in December 1998 when they peaked at over 100mph and ripped some structures down and tore roofs of buildings. Could we be looking at similar strengths in my neck of the woods on Thursday evening/night into Friday? Could you explain what you meant with your reference to the temperature values that are shown in the bottom 2-3000ft? Thanks
  17. It has to start somewhere lol. Looks like some really heavy snow in the central belt now, fingers crossed some of it gets here, not forecast until 9pm onwards anyway so still plenty time!
  18. Typical, it is very cold out there so lets just hope it's wrong. Could be the good old sea air doing it's usual damage!!
  19. I had a look at that site, does it just show you the current radar, i.e. 30 mins ago or does it show you a forecast radar? If so, where is that as i can't find it. I am a bit dubious the showers will reach me and even if they did the other members mentioning rain/sleet further west does not fill me with confidence.
  20. Anyone noticed the MetOffice forecast icons for this evening/tonight for Edinburgh has changed. Was showing next to nothing earlier but now shows heavy snow showers between 9pm and 12am then sleet showers between 12am and 3am. Possibly a few of these heavy showers coming into the west making it this far east? Whether they reach me in East Lothian is another matter though...
  21. Hi, Having had a browse through the models there seems to be opportunities for Central, Southern England for snow on quite a few occassions over the coming days, although marginal of course for some area, particularly further south you go. What i am struggling with, and i am no expert, is that the BBC and MetOffice both mention the possibility of 'longer spells of sleet and snow' for my location in South-East Scotland on Sunday/Monday yet i cant see on the models where this is going to come from. I would usually take the 'symbol' 5 day outlook forecasts on these sites with a pinch of salt only the MetOffice update for the longer term forecast starts from the tuesday (next week) and also mentions longer outbreaks of sleet and snow in the more northern areas. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Thanks,
  22. Snow has not shifted from the pans today either so we have 'coastal snow' still too, this has been only our second ice day of this cold spell, being next to the coast has not been helping matters, maximum of -0.5 today and now back down too -2.8 as i type this. Snow still covering all surfaces. Plough came through earlier but a lot of the snow must have frozen to the road because they are still all white despite the plough coming through, i would say we have maybe 2 inches of snow on the ground at the moment. Hoping for lots more this week, although not looking forward to the daily trips down the Edinburgh City Bypass to work if the forecasts validate
  23. Sledge at the ready right enough by-tor. Not enough snow to get a decent use but hopefully we can keep what we have now until the bigger stuff comes in Tuesday onwards, that would be a first for Viva la Pans, the 4 degrees we have seen here over the past week is positivily tropical by current standards is it not
